Officially Official CFB Playoff 1st Round (Corn & Soybeans Bowl) ND v. IU Game Thread

They came into the game with a 9th ranked overall f+.

They had a top 5 offense and top 15 defense. Remember f+ adjusts for opponent quality

ND shaped them anyway

MF is legit.

ND is legit.

WE got one of the very best teams in the country
No conclusions can be made after tonight. Let's just enjoy the win and get ready for UGA. We'll know the truth about this team soon enough.

They played 2 teams the WHOLE YEAR AND GOT SMOKED! I don't give a shit about your f+, I can name 20 teams that would beat this team!

I don't see this team beating Georgia.

Obviously I disagree. I wouldn't read too much into the last 3 minutes of this game. It is what it is...MF letting ND foolishly let up.

But ND is formidable. The D obviously. RL and the O still have great overall talent. The ND backs can do damage against any team, if the OL does its job...and there is a good chance it can vs any opponent.

What I think cannot be fixed is a deep passing game. RL will not suddenly become Tom Brady with a stable of WRs and TEs. Denbrock will have to find a way to impose the strong running game, some RL running, and play action often enough.

My knee jerk odds of Georgia vs ND are 55% : 45% in favor of Georgia. I'll take that.

Let's see what we all feel after we sleep on it. And see other teams.

That’s basically what people were saying before the Indiana game. Either team can win next round. ND has shown themselves to be a very good to great team win or lose next week.

Funny. Before the game IU is a top team, ND only face 1 team any good. IU got beat by OSU but they learned. ND dominated this game completely and let up at the end. Who gives a shit. I will take a 1 point win the next 3 games
Good luck, it's never happening! I would chop off my right arm for it to HAPPEN but, it's not! RL still sucks, we can't block IU and we're going to shove Georgia around on what will essentially be a home game? OK

No, lose next week and they achieved nothing and beat no one and that's exactly what everyone will say and it will be the damn truth!

I saw Indiana play Ohio State and ND...and I saw a very average team.

I don't care what the statistics say vs an ok but not elite schedule...SOS does matter...case in point...and I know enough about skewed statistics when beating opponents ranked higher than they should be...BIG 10, right?

Again, I agree ND dominated...and that not only is ND legit, but extremely strong. But no need to sell us that Indiana was some very strong opponent. They are a solid BIG 10 team, nothing more...not a national power and playoff threat.

No argument there. I'm just saying enjoy the win and let's see who finishes #1. I don't care who finishes outside of that ranking. Tonight was a step in the right direction and it was fun to see.

When do I earn the benefit of the doubt? Will that ever happen? My analysis has been rock solid all season
Ok. I have no interest in arguing the merits of your analysis. My only point is let's see who finishes #1. For me, that's the only ranking that matters. Tonight was a step towards that ranking, so let's enjoy it!

Right back at you. Try spreading your charm with your family and close friends. Strangers on a message board don't deserve such treasures.

Ah Friday night and a playoff win. Good times.
Playoff, it might as well have been the Pinstripe Bowl cause despite their record that's about what bowl game IU really belongs in...2/3 star talent and they won't win more than 5 games next year!!!!!!!!!!!

The one complaint I have is the trick play on 4th and 8. Just take the 3 points and make it a three score game. A 17 point lead is very difficult to surmount with less than 20 minutes remaining.

And right on que...ESPN headline ND holds off Hoosiers...it's comical and ND just needs to look right in the mirror for why this narrative never changes! 11 days they will have a chance to stop the chatter forever against a real team. My early line comsidering knowing ND's luck we won't have Spindler, Mills & Young...UGA 27 ND 14, if all 3 play ND can win but, not playing the way they played tonight.

5-3, not bad. What Alabamas was
At 5-3, 4-4 like I said top 25 maybe, just as good a chance at 3-5 or 2-6...did they play Oregon or PSU? CFP are you ****ing crazy this was a playoff game in NAME only...let's see what we do in 11 days, that's when it starts for me.

If Indiana played an SEC schedule, zero chance they make the playoff.
Vanderbilt was very competitive and 6-6 (don’t forget they lost to a horrible Georgia State). There’s a reasonable chance that Indiana would go 9-3 or 10-2, and then when you factor in the ridiculous SEC bias, they could have very reasonably found themselves in the playoffs.

By the way to all, Leonard made some great scrambles. We’re lucky to have him.

🥱...RL could have Alt, Stanley, Martin, Nelson & McGlinchey blocking for him and he would still SUCK AT THROWING A FOOTBALL and it's never changing. A real QB and minimal injuries and ND goes 16-0!

This sounds like another poster again.
Keep it up, actually I think your the troll but, not a problem! You were warned by Tyler 2 weeks ago. I guess it's time for you to find another site. What I basically took from it was your too poor to pay for Irish Insider and basically just a stupid hooligan. Now I know why he told me to stay on IL and not engage with illiterate punks like yourself.

My concerns remain the same: inconsistent kicking; lack of a dynamic passing attack; and the continued attrition on defense. If Mills can't go, we are in trouble. And on the other side of the ball, I didn't notice Spindler getting hurt, but he was in warmup gear at the end of the game, so his injury is probably serious, too.
