Stanford Game Thread

No qb in the Kelly era has been able to correctly read the zone read. Zaire was the closest to it.

I guess the Miami game was not a blip on this squad. It exposed our D and QB limitations.

Playing not to lose. I get the conservative. We get the ball coming out but 3-2 how about a rollout.

ND looks to be the better team. I think the Irish will take over in the second half.

I'd bench Wimbush and let Book play. Wimbush has monumentally more upside than Ian, but at least the Cali kid who probably has a bunch of family at the game might play with some energy and get his team going.

If Wimbush isn't going to make game changing plays with his legs there is no reason to play him right now because he looks absolutely lost anytime they call a passing play that has multiple reads.

Stanford is garbage. But they are playing friggen hard.

???? Is Kelly calling the plays? He seems agitated tonight and gestured to the "play caller" on the sideline. Does anybody else get the sense he might have "benched" Long during the 2nd half of the 2nd quarter?

Stanford getting 8-12 yards per Punt return while we're forced to Fair Catch every time. Unreal.

If we are not going to try and block the kick can we at least set up a return? It is always so nice to see 3-4 coverage guys bearing down on our returner.

That’s what kills me. This team CAN play Lights out.

What the hell happened?
Whether Adams is hurt is hard to tell but we look like the 2016 Irish both in play calling and performance on the field. Look, I know we have 0 chance at a playoff spot even if we were to beat Stanford by 20 but this is a struggle to watch after those mid year performances against some decent teams.

BW put it right in 80’s hands. I mean literally hit him in both hands. Can’t do much more.

I talking about the the misreads in the run game. He's screwed the read option up at least twice that I've counted by making horrible decisions... In the passing game he put the ball way out of bounds when St. Brown was wide open on the corner route. Then he was late behind Claypool and almost got picked and Long can't even call a short in breaking or out breaking route right now because Wimbush's footwork is horrible on those plays.

He’s kinda the only guy that showed up on O today. The line and the receivers have really not. No good down field blocking. That screen should have been big but both the TE and lineman miss blocks. Maybe he is missing open receivers I’m not seeing but doesn’t seem to be him.

I don't think he is calling plays, but each week since wake forest I've felt like I'm seeing an offense that has his signature on it. More like maybe he has increasing influence on game planning. But I think long is still calling plays.

Well—we trade a TD for a FG so if we keep that up the rest of the game we win. I enjoy using simple logic sometimes.

This game is strangely like 2015 out there where you look at Stanford's passing attack and wonder how the he'l we haven't picked off a pass yet or gotten some pass breakups... It's gross that we can't compete on a jump ball. I know they're tall but you have to play through their arms / hands.
