Since Kelly's arrival all his 1st year year QB's had success. Crist, Rees and Golson all started off very successful but as ND fans know all 3 of these ended quite badly. Every Qb under Kelly has regressed in their second year. Kizer had one of his worse games vs OSU despite OSU missing 3 starting Dlineman.
When Kelly has a 1st year qb he simplifies things and it goes well, the second year he opens up the playbook has the qb thinking too much and that is when disaster has set in. The QB's than start turning the ball over, holding onto the ball to long etc and making bad decisions.

I know Zaire will fight for the starting job but Kizer was great this year it will be difficult to take his job unless of course he regresses in his 2nd year as all of Kelly's QB's have done.

What is wrong with you?

haven't you figured it out? He WANTS kizer to regress therefore it will happen

Haven't you figured out everything I have posted is absolutely true? ND fans have a issue with reality.
Facts are
Kelly QB's have regressed
Kelly coaching tree is putrid
Kelly has not won a significant game at ND
Kelly Has not won a playoff game
Kelly has not won a BCS game ever
Kelly has not won a January Bowl Game
Kelly is better than Davie, Ty and Weis but not elite

Unfortunately for ND fans this is all true. It may upset you and instead of addressing this and holding Kelly accountable you choose to dismiss everything as a flame

Kelly coaching tree is putrid - What Coaching TREE?
Kelly has not won a significant game at ND - Depends on your standards
Kelly Has not won a playoff game - Division 2 he has
Kelly has not won a BCS game ever - TRUE
Kelly has not won a January Bowl Game - TRUE
Kelly is better than Davie, Ty and Weis but not elite - Davie wanted to change some things but admin wouldn't let him - His D was better for the most part.

This is why I like Cash. He brings up facts but doesn't do it in a flaming matter. I am still holding out hope that Kelly fires BVG and the defense has a chance to match the offense next year.

Wow, a ND fan that understands reality.
I like to talk about ND football, everything I write is the truth. I like to discuss ND football, unfortunately it is not always positive as I don't think Kelly is the guy. I don't think ND or any of the blu blood programs should except mediocrity. Sometimes you just have to take a few steps back to move forward. When you look at what OSU, Michigan and Bama have done, going out getting the best, you wonder why other schools with unlimited funds don't do this.
Yes, sometimes it goes terribly wrong like Texas, USC and Miami but at least they are trying instead of staying with a coach they know can't get it done.

At least 75% of talking about sports is just peoples' opinions, unless you are quoting statistics. And even those can be misleading or be misused. Ergo, very little of all of this stuff is about "truth".

Did Golson really regress? Or did we need him to do a lot more in 2014 (make plays, win games on offense) than we needed him to do in 2012 (manage the game, don't screw up, let the defense win the game), and he wasn't up to the task? Tommy Rees didn't regress, and there's no sign that Zaire or Kizer have regressed. But maybe they have, it's just a matter of opinion.

Don't think it will matter. Still expect Zaire to be the starter for the Texas game next year.
It will be a interesting QB battle but I think Kizer has the edge right now as he is more accomplished since Zaire got injured. I think Zaire is more confident, combined with his running ability gives Kelly less chance to negatively effect him as he has other QB's. Kelly really stripped Crist, Rees and Golson of their confidence especially in year 2.

He has won significant games at ND. oklahoma, Stanford, msu....his beating southern cal was a HUGE monkey off our back. (I'm still celebrating their WRs dropped pass. hahahaha)

However, some sunshine pumpers here treat close losses as wins... fsu, Stanford this year, clemson...

Even the Bills fans don't do that with the Norwood miss. Nor, do Pats fans boast about their regular undefeated season...

He has not won a significant bowl in his career. Since there's little to hang on to the sheltering/shielding kelly excuses pour forth...

At the end of the day we were snake bit by injuries. However, I didn't see a fall off at certain positions.

Lastly, Prosise was asked to carry a heavy load. I'm guessing that contributed to his breakdown...

Except that they're not....and you're just full of sh*t

Rees QB Rating
2010 - 132.0
2011 - 133.4
2013 - 135.4

Golson QB Rating
2012 - 131.0
2014 - 143.6

The only times an ND QB's rating has decreased over his career under Kelly is when he has been benched for a younger, better QB (who was recruited and/or developed by Kelly)

In the future, try to stick to the facts when you're making up random flames

Close losses are not wins at all. But using 2015 as an example, under the last three coaches if we had played three teams during the season that are all likely to finish in the Top 5 or 6 at season's end, the odds are pretty good that we would have been throttled all three games. So, while they are not wins and should not be considered wins by any real ND fan, they still can be indicative that we are in a better place now than we have been in many years. You look at that, you look at us now having multiple guys actually good enough to feel the need to head to the NFL early, you look at how many kids we are now able to redshirt in each recruiting class, and you might surmise that the program is in pretty good shape right now, the best shape since Holtz left 19 years ago. Can we improve? Sure. Can Kelly get better? Sure. Should we be satisfied with anything less than an undefeated season? No, our aim should be to win every game. But there are a lot of good reasons to feel positive about where we are as a program right now, and about a season like 2015, especially in the context of where we've come from. It's great to win national championships, but anyone who thinks that every team that didn't win the national championship had a disappointing season is just unnecessarily setting themselves up for a college football life full of disappointment. Even when you win one, and I've seen four in my life as a fan/student/alum, you are only the national champion for 12 months, then someone else takes over the crown. It doesn't last very long.

It was a huge win. But in an odd way, every time you win a game it immediately reduces the validity of the win, since how good could the team be if they lost to you?

Yes. How many times have we heard after games- regardless of who played- "(losing team) is overrated"

Perhaps you should be more concerned about what is happening at Florida.

McElwain, the proverbial 5-loss per season coach, started out fine by then was figured out pretty quickly as the year went along. Your team regressed with every game and got pounded by Meatchicken in the bowl game. Then your next star QB abruptly leaves the program. What gives with that?

Something is seriously wrong at Florida and you should be spending your time worrying about that. Instead, you choose to vent your frustrations out here and try to make yourself feel better by pointing out issues you see with Notre Dame's program.

That's what losers do, and that defines who and what you are. Good luck in life, because you're going to need it.

I view each year as a shot at the NC. We squandered our chances this year with pitiful performances against bc and a closing 20 odd seconds versus Stanford that were a horror show.

We pissed away a shot at greatness as the selection committee did everything under the sun top keep us in the hunt.

Saying that we're better off than the prior three regimes isn't a very high bar.

Here are the ND players drafted by the NFL season to season.

The three you mentioned were not good QB's. Year 1 , 2, or 3...they were not good QB's. In any year. No.

if any of the above were going into a QB competition next year with with Zaire, and a year under his belt Kizer who btw has REAL legit QB height...
the three you mentioned would be 3,4,5 on the depth chart.

I'm confused

Is the current regime bringing in more talent and developing it better (both into NFL talent and 10+ win season) a good thing or a bad thing?

ND has historically attracted NFL talent regardless of who the coach/staff is....
The school's global reputation, historic football tradition, weekly national exposure.... carries more weight than the football staff.

Also, some talent is "can't miss NFL" regardless of the coaching staff.

We were 4-3 versus teams with winning records this year.

What are you comparing this "current regime" to? 10 wins is great in a 10 game season with a solid schedule.

Previous regimes, obviously

So answer the question:

It's a simple question

With a quick look into the NFL prior draft history and ND football abyss...

From '01-'04 24 ND players were drafted.

From '91 to '94 37 players were drafted.

Would you care to prove this remark "Is the current regime bringing in more talent and developing it better" or rephrase your question?

And since when is raw number of players drafted a decent metric for anything?

And you're selecting the best 3 year stint in other regimes after they're completely done and comparing it to what?
The last 3 years for Kelly?
That seems legitimate in your pathetic little mind?

How about this

1st Round Picks by Draft Class
91-94: 9
01-04: 1
12-15: 6-7 (4 so far, plus the 2015 class)

So the most recent 4 (not the best 4, just most recent) of Kelly will have more 1st round draft picks than the best 4 years stint of any coach since Holtz....and are trending favorably towards Holtz's best 4 years

And you're dumb enough that you're actually trying to complain and flame about this.................lulz

I'm actually starting to feel bad, just slapping someone as dumb as you are around like this.....almost

With all this talent why has Kelly not won anything? No BCS games, no January bowl wins, no playoff appearances? Why is he failing so miserably? Kelly loses to northwestern, Pitt, Tulsa, usf and others but can't beat the big boys like bama , fsu, osu and Clemson etc..

How about the Michigan State team that finished in the Top5?
Or for the "at the time win", how about the Top10 Oklahoma team, @Oklahoma??

Wow so in 6 years and 76 games the best you got is a soft OU team that got smacked around in bowl and lost 3 games and a very tough but overachieving MSU team in which Kelly has way more talent than? That's it? You proved my point!!!

I love that your point is so absurd that you can't have any kind of consistent standard

MSU finishes in the Top5, wins the Rose Bowl, beat Ohio State and Stanford.......not a good win
Oklahoma, @Oklahoma, who hasn't lost more than 5 total home games in 5 years......not a good win

You just make up what "good wins" are at random, so you can decide ND doesn't have any

Real facts being present must be really, really rough for you

I'm sorry for expose your raw stupidity so publicly......I know how sensitive and lacking self-esteem you trolls are

Really? I didn't even know we were arguing. What is it that we are arguing about?

What did I complain about? You seem to be looking for some "aha" moment. You're funny.

Which guys did kelly recruit that turned into first rounders?

I believe right now that number would be zero. Smith nope, Floyd nope, Eifert nope, Martin nope....

It's interesting that you are giving credit to Kelly for weis' recruits. That's not very sporting.

In fact, kelly went out of his way to say that these weren't his guys. Then the dopey purple gnome had to apologize for that epic stupidity.

He's really good at being a moron.

Think northwestern... Should I go for 1 or 2 eenie, meenie, miney, moe....one potato, 2 potato...time out....

I wonder which he used.

Why don't you focus on "his" guys ?

Interestingly, I've never seen any of these guys give kelly credit for anything. Maybe I missed it.

Keep flailing away though....it suits you.

oklahoma finished # 15 in 2012.

I think kelly's 2 best wins by end of season rankings are msu #3 in '13 and Stanford # 7 in '12.....

I'm not sure if he has any other top 10 final ranking wins in his tenure.

PS michigan state was not ranked when # 22 Notre Dame played them Sept 21, 2013. In fact, they did not crack the top 25 until October 27th. Had kelly played them when they were number 3 I'm sure kelly would have pooped himself.
