Spring Practice Competition

Yeah, he has the best 'arm talent', easily in fact. With Carr, it's like he's more trained from birth or something. So he's got the pedigree and maturity or the know-how. I don't want to overstate just how talented Minchey is, but he's the higher pure upside guy. But if Carr is more efficient, more assertive, more effective, and he's a plenty good pure passer himself, then he'll probably be the guy. He's not a bad athlete either. I don't even really think of Minchey as that athletic at all. I certainly wouldn't categorize him as 'dual threat'. I do wonder if Carr would transfer if Minchey won the job.

And I wonder if Talich will win a starting spot at S. He hundred percent looks the part of someone who starts out as a walk-on at like, Iowa, and becomes an A-A, or a high draft pick. I figured someone overlooked like that would end up at Iowa or Minnesota or something. But ND managed to get him. I want that same cinderella success story.

As far as OL goes, if we have a future 1st rounder in Lambert or Jagusah, let's put them at LT. Knapp can learn to play inside, that's an easy adjustment.
Would be shocked if Luke T doesn’t get a ton of PT this year. Although he’s not your walk on type at Iowa, had offers from Utah, Or St, Wa St

I guess that's true. I was thinking it was only like, 1-AA or G5. Like S Dakota St., or Wyoming. In any case, I hope he's the front runner to replace Xavier. Even though we got the transfer from VTech, who does seem like a good fit for the spot.

You like Jagusah better at left guard ? I thought Schrauth really blossomed there last year and Jagusah next to Wagner is very intriguing. Lambert is the wild card in my opinion. I think he makes the leap. Realistically if he was an early enrollee last year he likely gets the call over Knapp. Having a spring practice under his belt really benefited Knapp. His injury will likely limit his spring participation also. Otting likely to get most of the reps at center this spring I would think.
I’m good with him at right guard, wasn’t being picky there. You’re right though assume right guard for him.

That’s why I like Knapp working on snapping due to injury and being limited

The guy no one is talking about who I'm hearing great things about is Sullivan Absher. Not sure where he plays, but with Knapp coming back from surgery, Craig coming back from surgery, etc... He could make a move this spring. I think, given injuries and the long, long successful season (we won't see much of Love and Price this spring, Faison is all-LAX, Pauling coming off injury, nor will Fields be on campus guys Kedren Young, Saldate, Gilbert and Cam will get a chance to step up too. And that should be fun.

My big fear is the spring transfer portal. Pretty sure we're going to lose one of those three promising QBs and probably an Offensive Lineman, maybe a WR. Still, a far cry when we had to go to the transfer portal for Cain Madden.
Stu…what surgery is Knapp coming back from? He had a high ankle sprain which kept him out of the championship game, but I don’t recall hearing anything about surgery. I agree Absher is in the discussion, but hard to see a path for him to start. Assuming Jagusah and Wagner and Schrauth are locks, that leaves two positions for Craig and Knapp and Lambert and Absher and possibly Black. I think Absher has a chance to start if Jagusah is selected at LT and Knapp gets the nod at center…left to right Jagusah-Absher-Knapp-Schrauth-Wagner. This essentially boils down to Absher beating out Lambert (even though different positions as Jagusah can play both), and Knapp beating out Craig. OL talent going into this season is really impressive as I get excited with multiple combinations.

Even if Knapp beats out Craig at center, Craig could win the guard job as well

Telx -- this from the South Bend Trib:

"Sophomore left tackle Anthonie Knapp (right ankle surgery in January) and defensive end Cole Mullins (left knee surgery last fall) will see modified activity this spring." Sounds like a cleanup surgery.

Really hope our top guys get healthy! But nice to know there is real competition to start.

Look the paid board. Tons of injuries and surgeries to starters.
