TB likely to win the QB competition at Alabama

By the way I still have not heard anyone saying Saban offered TB a scholarship out of High School.

Him going to Alabama is clearly on TR. I can see Saban saying OK if you really want him.

Does not mean Saban thinks he is all that
Saban did offer out of high school, been said multiple times- wanted him then and wanted him now.

some here really need to stop worshiping a mediocre at best QB. Seems to be a good kid (thought calling legal adults kid is stupid) and outside of the fact he quit and ran from here I have nothing bad to say about him personally. Those trying to pump up a poor QB keep trying to say its personal but that is all they have since he has never shown anything worthwhile.
No one is worshipping him, but you have been over the top negative like he personally hurt you. Pretty sad really.

All it takes is one moron
You’re too stupid to understand permutations and probability that’s associated with frequency !

It only takes 1, but if you only get hit 10 times instead of 100 times, the probability drops exponentially.

Have someone with a brain explain that to you.

So unless he’s lauded as a Heisman candidate in your opinion people are “down on him”?

Stop virtue signaling. Nobody cares about Buchner.
Your comment above is about as absurd and stupid as one can get. !

Why do you find it necessary to take an extreme position, and then compound your error with horribly flawed logic.

Neither I nor many others ever viewed or presented him as a Heisman candidate.

Why did you make that outrageous and faulty claim ?

The length of this thread proves you wrong ……. AGAIN

People do care about Buchner and wish him well.

it‘s just a few assholes like you who are denigrating him and hoping he fails at Alabama.

If he was your son would you feel the same way ?

You will never find an example of me wishing Buchner fails. Never. You’re a weirdo.

Never ?

How about these comments from you.

“Stop virtue signaling. Nobody cares about Buchner.”

“Buchner really made a bonehead move imo.”

“Maybe Saban just needs a place holder.”

Your last comment says everything you need to know about your views on Buchner.

It would appear that the only time you open your mouth is to change feet !

OUCH !

Almost every pundit has claimed that Simpson will win the job. Tyler is a gamer. Plays hard. Great kid. I do not see him improving on his biggest weakness - scanning field for open receiver. He missed so many open guys at ND.
He is not a top QB.
No one knows. They didn't start practice yet. It's just a guess until camp

Anybody who thinks Buchner isn't going to perform way better with all of the top 5 overall prospects at their respective position on that roster is fooling themselves.

TALENT IS EVERYTHING.

When you have RBs who can make a cut and outrun everybody on defense after a small dump off your numbers are going to get way better. When you have a WR that is faster and more athletic than everybody in the defensive backfield it's easy to just sling the ball high and far and watch your all world first round future NFL WR run under it and score a TD which makes you look good.

Buchner is going to be a beast at Alabama

Tommy Rees and Buchner went from driving a toyota scion to driving a dodge viper.

Marcus Freeman could very well decide that to win game 1 at TAM in 2024 he needs to recruit another grad transfer portal QB for next season.
And if ND doesn’t make the playoffs this year with Hartman, it was a failed experiment. Bypassed having a 3-year starter in TB and failing to obtain program goals with Hartman and back in the portal back to back years looking for a bandaid QB fix. If Hartman wins 8-9 games, that’s something TB would have achieved in my opinion and wasted growth opportunity. Expectations should be super high given the decision because in 2024 it’s a first time starter or transfer portal.

With a two year 57 % completion record how many “open” guys could he have missed ?

Should his CP have been 80 % ?

70 % ?

60 % ?

In 2022 he only made 83 passing attempts and completed 46 = 55.4 %

To get his CP to 60 %, which would be very good, he would only have to complete 3.8 more passes.

So again I ask, how many “open“ guys did he miss ?

And, when did they break “open”. ?

And, were they his primary receiver, his secondary receiver or the third or fourth receiver in his progression ?

You should also know that every QB misses “open” guys.

So I don’t know if the criticisms about him missing “open receivers” carries sufficient weight.

I think your position is obvious - you like Tyler - to a fault.
I like him a ton also. I recognize he is nowhere near what was thought of him in high school. He was thought to be this unbelievable passer. He comes to ND after COVID year and becomes a run first QB. COVID becomes his excuse for missed year of development.

No amount of 5 star talent at Bama is going to compensate for his failings. He can’t see the field Can’t progress thru reads. Can’t find open man. He will not do better at Bama than nd.

Good QB. Great kid. Cannot compare to Hartman. Not close. And he will be number 2 at Bama. Get a lot of pt cause they are figuring out the starter. But do not see him starting or Bama is in trouble

Time will tell who is starter. It will not make Tyler into something he’s not - a good passing qb

I believe Hartman is way overhyped. Some on this board going as far as to put him in the running to win the Heisman. If he was that good, he would have been a 1st or 2nd round draft board prospect. Instead he's a 6th year QB who transferred from Wake to ND.

This board is going to have a complete meltdown if Hartman doesn't perform to those lofty expectations

Totally Carries weight. Every analysis of Tyler by any service is same. Misses open man and limited progressions. In South Carolina game missed 2 open for long gains if not td. And had like 3 ints. The completion rate is not at all indicative of finding the open man. In many of those completions there was someone not being covered that he missed. This is well known.

Love his competitiveness and you can do a lot worse at qb. I’m just pointing out his biggest flaw which is well recognized by coaches. I don’t think this can be completely taught. It can be improved upon. But standing in pocket going thru reads is a talent only great ones have

Not all elite college QBs are high draft picks. He should be really good bc the offense as a unit is extremely talented. No excuses this year.

He doesn't necessarily have an NFL starting QB's arm. But he's a very good college QB, and should be a big upgrade over Buchner and Pyne.

We shall see.
Yet at the same time you don't think Buchner can win the starting job transferring over to Alabama with an offense that's loaded with 5 star top 100 players?

When referring to Buchner and stating that the reason that he’s at Alabama is that “Saban just needs a place holder” clearly indicates that you believe he will fail as a QB !

That’s undeniable and irrefutable !

You’re the moron, you’re just not smart enough to have figured that out yet !

Jury is still out on TB, started 3 games @ ND- let’s not act like his passing development has hit its ceiling. The point is, he would have likely started 3 years if Hartman doesn’t transfer in and Hartman is clearly an upgrade BUT if he wins 8-9 games, was it worth it? 2024 you might be begging for TB but I guess the board is willing to go through growing pains with Carr/Minchey while not giving TB the same grace.

I do think he will. That’s not the same as hoping he will. I suggest you see a doc grandpa.

This is compounded by his physical vulnerabilities that are accompanied by his run instincts. He is an injury begging for a place to happen. I find no satisfaction in pointing out the obvious....but it is what it is.

Wow I'm amazed at the number of QB experts that have graced this forum with their presence. So let me understand this, if your analysis of TB is correct, why would Rees, who has coached him for a couple of years now recruit him to Alabama? Why would Saban sign off on that?
Maybe Saban made a mistake in hiring Rees and should have hired one of the many QB whisperers in this forum.
