Officially Official ND v. Stanford Game Thread

check the stats dummy, Defense has held its own. Stanford has just 37 yards rushing and only 3-7 on 3rd down conversions. That's the Defense.
So the first half you have watched has made you feel good about the direction this defense is headed?

Can we get an OC and qb transfer? Throw in a HC as well and just have freeman do the ONLY thing he’s good at… freeman is a recruiting coordinator, nothing more

Ha oh yeah? How did the Marshall game go. I mean did you really just say that.

Anyway....there are a lot of things that "should" be that aren't. I don't really know how many more years of Notre Dame not being "Notre Dame" have to go by before it gets into a lot of your heads here. It will just go on forever I guess.

Rees and Freeman shouldn't even get to the point of being CONSIDERED for those jobs if ND was what ND fans perceive them to be. So yeah....they're not great coaches right now. Not even close. But they shouldn't even have been considered in the first place for this allegedly "elite" college football program.
Ouch

We beat a mediocre North Carolina team and people were saying we were going to run the table. Even if we win this no way this team keeps up with USC and Clemson. Unless we greatly improve.
The defense will keep ND in the games as they have all year. The offense can't score points. Brutal!

Anyone that thinks Pyne is a realistic starting candidate next year is nuts.

The guy is afraid to throw to any single covered wr and instead throws to a double or triple covered te

He has less deep ball ability than Ian book

I'll be shocked if he doesn't transfer to start at a lesser school. I bet ND gets a QB to flip for the chance to compete with Buchner.

How can a team regress this much in 7 days. I am totally baffled.
Oline can't block. Pyne looks worse than he did against Cal. WRs can't catch.....Defense has at least kept it to 7-0 but might be 14-0 at the half.
I don’t know, could the answer be coaching ?

We started out as an 18.5 favorite and many on this site were telling us what a pushover Stanford would be.

I advised against underestimating your opponent and indicated that there was. 9.7 % chance that Stanford would upset us.

If there aren’t major adjustments at halftime Stanford, an 18.5 point underdog might prevail.

Hard to believe !

Can I ask why Jaiden Thomas turned into a running back for one play? I was hoping for the Josh Heupel shovel pass.

Dang, I just turned the game on with 8 minutes left in the half. Haha! The Marcus Freeman on-the-job training project has hit another snag.

The dl is simply too undersized. They were warn out in the first half and we're worn out vs unc even though they only were on the field for like 40 plays at the time.

If I'm playing ND I'd run power football in the 2nd and 4th quarters all day. The dudes aren't fresh.

When is the offense going to go to other receivers with Mayer double covered.

RB’s and WR’s have to become primary and the running game has to show up !

Defense played very well, but fatigue might be a second half factor

I don't give a crap about the direction of the defense. I care about what they are doing THIS game, and they've held Stanford to 7 points being on the field almost 6 minutes longer then the offense in the first half. The ND offense is disgraceful vs the Stanford D, if you can't see that then I can't help you.

When teams don't respect your wr's as pass catchers because you never throw them the ball it makes it a helluva lot easier to sniff out wrs as runners on sweeps and reverses.

Rees has been gawd awful.

Are we still in love with Drew Pyne? He's exhibiting classic Brian Kelly QB Regression Syndrome within the space of one week. Is that on Rees? Dude looked completely inept from what I saw. It's kinda hilarious.

I don't think Pyne has the arm talent to use the field wr deep. Teams play off that guy every game because either Rees or Pyne are unwilling to go there. It's so bad that ND would be better going with two backs full time.

The dl has a conditioning issue. Not sure of they are playing to many plays or if being undersized is killing them but they are all non factors. The fact a Harvard grad transfer started tonight says a great deal about the state of the DL.

1. We need more beef. No substitute for weight in middle

2. With our "stars" being non factors on the line they should be rotating in young guys all the time to get reps and allow said "stars" a breather.

Stanford has tried multiple times over to lose this game.

Unfortunately the Irish have gone deeper into their beat themselves bag tonight than Stanford.

There is virtually nothing positive going on for either team other than of course Stanford actually having a rare lead.

This has been about as poor a cumulative half of football I have watched in a while.

In fairness, the timing of Kelly’s departure painted ND into a very bad corner, leaving them little in the way of a viable coaching candidates.

I opposed the rush to hire a HC and instead favored an IC, so here we are !

Both sides of the football are disgraceful. Stanford has killed most of their own drives.

The only sane reason I can think anyone would credit this defense is in your case the insane brotherhood shared by anyone from the dirty Jers like Golden and yourself

We agree finally

It’s simple

more estime, more tempo, more wr slants/crossers on first down

defense has to tackle

So let me understand something; when we win its because of the players, but when we play like sh*t, that's coaching. That about sum up the gist of a lot of thee posts? I know how about the players playing with some damn fire, some pride!!!
