Angeli to portal

Eh, you gotta make a choice. You can't do both at the same time and then go back in time and pick the one you like between the two. And I say Angeli's good enough that he could be the starter and you could make the playoff again and with him. So it's a tough choice. If Angeli sucked, like Andrew Hendrix or something, it would be no choice at all. But he doesn't, he's a totally good player. So you still gotta make a choice, and you can have all your maxims and precepts you follow, and then you make a terrible blunder, even though you were trying your hardest to make the best choice, and you had all your sound logic behind it. Only thing that matters is that you make the right one. Doesn't matter what your reasoning was in the slightest. That's just something people do cover their ass when they F up and then someone demands an explanation.

So to me it was a tough choice, and Angeli's good enough that he could have been the right one. But we'll never know. Unless maybe Angeli goes to Tenn and leads them to the playoff, and Carr sucks and struggles and we go 8-4. Then you might know.
I have not seen in Angeli what others have seen, even though we've all watched the same plays. His fumble against Penn State., that we recovered, is a play that suggested to me he was not quite ready for prime time. I also recalled a lot of his stats coming against teams like Tennessee State and Purdue on short completions where the dump off receiver just out skill, setted the defense. So I went back and watched all of his highlights to see what you and some others have seen. I was more impressed than I thought I would be. He is a solid quarterback, and always answered the bell. But I think CJ Carr has an it factor that we have not seen for a while. Part of that conclusion is based upon analysis of the factors I discussed previously, but no doubt some of it is based upon the fanatic part of being a fan!

Its a bummer for sure. I liked him a lot. He's a solid, serviceable QB with more than enough talent to start in many places. But, this also shows you just how good our "problem" currently is or was. We had three quality QB's. Carr is the obvious front runner for us and he's young, which means we should have a top QB for the next few years. His ceiling if very high. Angelli, we know what his ceiling is, he's older and a one season and out QB.

I certainly wish him all the best and hope he finishes his college career with great success and makes it to the next level. He's earned it in my book.

Yeah, he's not that great. But he's good enough, and has been good enough in his limited time, that I at least think he could totally be a playoff QB, assuming our defense continues to carry us. Which we're going to need, at least IMO, regardless of who the QB is. And which is a totally open question with our new DC.

And he's a good guy, good personality, he's paid his dues, he's the sentimental favorite, and he's sort of a Tom Brady type. And by that I mean somebody who makes good reads and accurate throws, and even though he doesn't stand out physically, he can move the offense. He gets the job done, in terms of completed passes. But unlike Tom Brady who as everyone knows is a very poor run/jump athlete, but nevertheless had a laudable ability to step up in the pocket and avoid sacks despite his slowness of foot, Angeli takes an alarmingly high number of sacks. Or he seems it like he does at least. And to me that's like his only real negative.

So I feel like it would be a tough choice, because I'd be inclined to go with Angeli, or if you were inclined to, you could certainly make the argument that if you did, you could absolutely be putting your best foot forward as a team if you did. But then maybe Carr transfers, and then you gotta think about that. So if you're MF you just gotta make a practical decision. And unsurprisingly, he's going with the younger guys. Which is fine, they're both good too, you can only pick one.

I can agree with that for the most part. Him coming in against Penn State was a tough spot to thrust any QB in to be honest. But he got us down the field for points which as we all know, ended up being the difference in such a tight game.

i'll say this, he is a better pocket passer than Leonard was last year and I think it showed in that game. With game time, I feel like he would only get better as he gets more comfortable. That said, he didn't have the "it" factor that Leonard possessed. For the short comings of Leonard, he simply was a winner and turns out, was a heckuva leader too. That can't be taught.

Drew Allar's, late game mindless interception also showed he is not ready for prime time.

The "problem" is one that elite programs have year in and year out. OSU, Bama, etc.....turn over high level quarterbacks as a matter of routine. Thats a foreign language to ND fans. Its the right problem to have.

“Lots” did not leave in the spring portal

And I never made that claim, the source I cited made that claim

You need to learn how to read with some degree of comprehension
Doesn't matter which portal window was utilized. Players have left and players have arrived. Ohio St at last count has had 15 players enter the portal.

Ohio State lost another player yesterday. 16 now I believe.
How many of those guys are 2-deep guys?

Having lots of roster exits gets rid of the low performers/bad apples and opens the roster up for more blue chip prospects to compete in camp for a job going forward.

Or you lose your 3rd OT or DT or TE and when there's an injury during the season you wish you had him back.

The Backup Anything at a Top 20-30 Program can usually find plenty of good places to play.

I would tell any kid to have it already done when you announce you're entering the portal. Have your HS Coach send out feelers to either schools that recruited you out of HS or to coaches that recruited you as in many cases they are elsewhere.

If you lose two TEs in your two deep and have to resort to a 3rd & 4th TE for the rest of the season, there's likely little difference between the 3rd, 4th, and 5th guy. Point being: if you lose the 1st and 2nd team guy, you're forked regardless.

I think they're just worried about winning some morbid pissing contest, with the board's resident lunatic. Or master troll or whoever that guy is. Nobody gives a shit about tOSU's roster turnover.

But you're right though, that's one of the main consequences of the portal, guys can leave on their own, or you can process them with a clean conscience. And that's ideally the blueprint. You get rid of the busters. And you can hand pick various role players and rotational guys to replace them along with the occasional star, if you got the money, like tOSU does. And you can take bigger HS classes, depending on how the annual portal re-shuffling goes. At least for the big dog programs in good health, who tend not to lose too many key players. But if you're a mid-tier program, the portal can be a bitch goddess, and you don't know wtf is going to happen to your two deep when it opens up.

Who Golson5 was probably proclaiming was going to be the next Tim Tebow when he committed to ND 🤣😂😅
I've been right more often on recruits than you or probably anyone here. Esp you though🤣

I remember you didn't want Bryce Young or Will Black because they weren't rated highly enough at the time 🤣🤣🤣. Great call lol

You were just calling for Angeli over Carr and Minchey just the other day when I said he was behind both 🤣

Steverino made the NFL draft highlights. Getting sacked by Abdul Carter.
Anybody else get tired of watching ND players flopping around/looking bad in these draft highlight packages on national TV? It feels like every top NFL draft prospect coming from a modern power program has a game vs ND where that player tore them up.

We won that game 🤣🤣....But that doesn't matter to you as long as we look good on draft highlights. So dumb
Yes, perception > reality. Every top blue chip HS prospect from around the country is watching this. Next time they show ND, you want an ND player putting on the hat, with a highlight package vs other popular brands. You dont want to be the highlight tackling dummie when your brand is shown. These optics matter with 17 year olds--whether they are the most stoic choir boy monk steve urkel ever or a Travis Hunter flamboyant type-- in 2025 whether ND fans want to believe it or not this stuff matters.

Wasn’t that dude playing with an injury that game.

That's because you're a dope. Every kid watched that game (the best game of the year) and we won. Being on 1 players highlight tape is beyond meaningless.

You getting dumber by the post

Maybe this will get Colorado their first 26 commitment....
