So that settled the three way competition down to two.

Shame because I liked what I saw of him.

Clearly he does not believe he will get the starting spot.

There we go. That wasn't hard to predict. It sucks too, because we could have made the playoff with him a year ago, and probably could this coming season too. He seems totally good enough to me. Doesn't mean he's going win the job. I think everyone knows, or at least confidently feels it's CJ Carr, with Minchey as a possible upstart if he keeps improving. And Angeli just doesn't have the upside. Even though 'upside' at the QB position doesn't mean as much. You're either good or you're not. Move the offense or you don't.

Wonder if he goes to Tenn and wins the job. Pendleton's already there so, he'd at least know someone. He'll probably go to Miami(ohio).

Maybe he should try BC with Bill O'brien. There are always injuries. Especially with both QBs being mobile. I always hoped he would play for us someday. I'm telling you though if either Carr or Minchey goes down or both he might be making a huge mistake. I think Angeli should have stayed and hoped for a miracle like last years Orange Bowl.

They got a guy from Bama in the regular portal, Dylan Ratigan. I'm guessing he's the front runner.

It's tough in the spring portal, because you just missed spring practice. You're already behind.

Steve will graduate with a Notre Dame degree, and still has two years eligibility to start elsewhere. He is a class act, and he did everything asked of him when given the opportunity to play. He will find success at another school. But with every position, we expect the coaches to put us in the best position to win, and the staff obviously feel that both Carr and Minchey provides this over him. Not a sad day for ND football imo, but I appreciate that Steve has to be disappointed, but maybe not all that surprised.

Realistically, he needs to go to a team with a good offensive line for pass protection.

You can't wait for a "hopeful" to occur -- what "if" it (Carr and/or Minchey go down) never happens and he could have went somewhere and had a good season?

We have 5 tough games in the 1st half of the year and Miami and Texas A&M defenses will bring the heat. I'm telling you injuries happen and we just lost our best insurance policy.

" If someone gets injured" is not a good enough reason to stick around. He wants to play and why waste another year of eligibility. I'm guessing they were completely honest with him as they should and told him he was likely third in line.

Well I was wrong on thinking Angeli was the guy. I trust the staff and deep down despite my admiration for his loyalty and penchant for rooting for the underdog (I’ve always been one), I had concerns about his mobility and internal clock.

I hope Steve absolutely kills it wherever he goes and I think he’s an incredibly accurate passer.

The Carr era begins and I think there is a lot of reason to be excited. We trust in Freeman and we have the most talented QB starting here since Clausen or Crist. By all accounts, he seems to be a more complete qb than the aforementioned. How are Carr’s legs?

Third in line??? Well, then I kinda wonder, when Riley Leonard was hurt, why Kenny Minchey, after being in the program well over a year, did not go in against Penn State, with a title game on the line.

Instead, it was Steve Angeli.

Yes he was clearly third in line. The talent discrepancy is obvious

You're an adult I presume.

What do you think?
An adult yes not to be mistaken for a Gavin commie boy. No idea what the young man’s intentions are. Angeli hung around for years not being named the starter.

And Kenny Minchey has hung around for 2 years, could not crack the two deep, now soon to be three years as a backup.

So what.

Considering Freeman's comments that he would prefer a two man competition going into fall camp I'm guessing Angeli was likely told just that. I doubt he leaves if he was considered one of the two.

Then I will ask you again.

Why did Steve Angeli go in against Penn State around three months ago, with the title game on the line?

Because that's the decision that was made. He was 2nd on the depth chart all year. Kind of how it works. They are now preparing for the 2025 season and both coaches and players alike have decisions to make. No different than Coogan and Spindler moving on and they were starters for most of last season. What's so hard to understand ?

Simply curious why Kenny Minchey wasn't called upon against Penn State when Riley Leonard got hurt.

That's it.

Because he wasn't the backup in 24.

As far as I know, we are going into the 25 season.

That's it.

Wish him the best, seems like a great young man. Will be rooting for him. But this is positive development. It suggests one of the young guns grabbed the reigns. Probably Carr who could be the best we have had in a long time (and I loved Riley Leonard). If we clear the early hurdles, this team could be really really good.

Because he was 3rd on the depth chart and the backups get way more practice time in game preparation than the 3rd stringers do. Pretty straightforward stuff.
After 18 months in the program, and if the dude is clearly better than Angeli, why wasn't he second on the depth chart?

Why are you asking me ? Having a difficult time accepting what has transpired ? Do you question your beloved Lincoln Riley in his decision making with such fervor also ?
