Recruiting 2026 TE prospect Sam Hamilton talks Notre Dame camp, tight end legacy

I caught up with Notre Dame 2026 tight end prospect Sam Hamilton on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound tight end participated in Notre Dame's Evaluation Camp III last Thursday.

He wasn't quite as impressive as his Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller teammate and 2026 tight end Cooper McCutchan, but Hamilton flashed enough promise to project as one of the tight ends the Irish might have their eyes on in the 2026 recruiting class.

After camping at Kentucky, Tennessee, and Wisconsin, Hamilton said his experience at Notre Dame stuck out from the rest.

"Notre Dame was one of my favorite camps I went to this year," Hamilton told Inside ND Sports. "I think because of their background of tight ends and their tradition there. I think Notre Dame would be a great school to go to."

Hamilton liked his time under offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker and said it was easy to see how much passion he has for coaching and sharpening little details. He also received some direct advice from head coach Marcus Freeman.

"When we got there, he took us and told us to keep our heads right and be a football player," Hamilton said. "He told some of the guys, 'You guys are coming out here for scholarships, maybe some of you are coming out here just to get better. Evaluate yourself, play your best, keep your head up and never get down on yourself,' I think he's the definition of a really great football coach."

Heading into his sophomore season, Hamilton reports one offer from Kentucky. He's also receiving interest from Notre Dame, Tennessee and Wisconsin. He knows Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell from his Cincinnati tenure and said he really likes what he's building with the Badgers.

Rivals has not assigned ratings or rankings for any prospects in the 2026 recruiting class yet.

Hamilton is projected to have a bigger role for Moeller this season and could see more offers roll in with a productive year.

Recruiting Notre Dame camp gives 2026 TE Cooper McCutchan more familiarity with Irish

I spoke with Notre Dame 2026 tight end prospect Cooper McCutchan on Monday evening. McCutchan attends Cincinnati (Ohio) Moeller and is teammates with Notre Dame 2024 cornerback commit Karson Hobbs.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end was a top performer at Notre Dame’s Evaluation III camp last Thursday and recently picked up his first offer from Kentucky. He’s camped at Kentucky, Notre Dame and Wisconsin this summer.

“All three of the camps have been awesome,” McCutchan told Inside ND Sports. “I did a tour at Notre Dame. I've been up there before but it's always awesome to walk around Notre Dame and see that.”

McCutchan has visited Notre Dame for football games since he was a little kid with his father and grandfather. He said his camp experience went great under offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Gerad Parker.

‘I think I've performed really well in the three camps that I've been to this year,” McCutchan said. “My 40-yard dash is OK. I'm performing really well in the other stuff of camps. He really coached us up and he was a great person. He made sure everybody understood what he was saying before he moved on."

During his freshman season, McCutchan transitioned to tight end from wide receiver. He'd played wide receiver since starting football in sixth grade.

“Because of my past being a receiver, I think my pass catching is definitely a lot higher than it might be for other guys who've been tight ends the whole time,” McCutchan said. “It’s a pretty good advantage in that category.”

Rivals has not given ratings or rankings to any prospects in the 2026 recruiting class yet.

McCutchan plans to see a bigger role on varsity this season and said he’d love to return on a game day visit this fall. It would be his first time visiting the Irish as a recruit.

Recruiting 2026 DL prospect Carmelo McKenzie recaps Notre Dame camp experience

I spoke with Notre Dame 2026 defensive line prospect Carmelo McKenzie on Monday. The York (Pa.) William Penn Senior product camped at Notre Dame's Evaluation Camp III last Thursday and earned a spot on the standouts list.

McKenzie was invited by defensive coordinator Al Golden but spent most of his afternoon under defensive line coach Al Washington's coaching, although Golden followed defensive line drills closely.

"He taught me some new technique I could use for the season," McKenzie told Inside ND Sports. "He's a great guy and great coach. He's my type of coach. He gets physical and actually shows you how to do the drill before telling you to get up and go do it."

McKenzie made such an impression on Washington that he joined the class of 2024 and 2025 recruits in one-on-ones, where he displayed impressive power and only lost one rep.

The 6-foot-2, 270-pound recruit camped at Michigan and Ohio State before Notre Dame. McKenzie raved about his two-day experience with the Irish.

"It may be the best school I saw on my whole trip," McKenzie said. "I loved everything. It's an overall beautiful school. When I first got there, I thought of it as Hogwarts."

Rivals has not assigned any stars or rankings to prospects in the 2026 recruiting class.

McKenzie has three offers from Akron, Charlotte and Syracuse. He's also receiving interest from Notre Dame and West Virginia.

Although he's entering his sophomore year, McKenzie has set plans to commit before his senior season and early enroll at whatever school he attends.

@Birm just shared his intel following Ohio State's official visit weekend, which included two of Notre Dame's top remaining targets: five-star DT Justin Scott and four-star LB Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa.

According to his reporting, the Buckeyes aren't most concerned with Notre Dame for either recruit. Insightful or foolish? We'll see.

Basketball MBB: 2025 five-star SG target Jalen Haralson interested in Notre Dame

I checked out Notre Dame 2025 shooting guard target Jalen Haralson and Fishers (Ind.) High against Jeffersonville (Ind.) High on Saturday.

The 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard is the highest-rated target for Notre Dame and head Coach Micah Shrewsberry in the 2025 recruiting class. He is rated as a five-star recruit and ranked No. 12 overall in the 2025 class.

Haralson and the Tigers won 70-48. He scored 18 points. They went 4-0 in the tournament and won each of their games by 20 or more points.

“Coach Shrews was recruiting me at Penn State when he was there,” Haralson told Inside ND Sports. “I’m really impressed with him as a coach and how he develops his players. I know the coach he is and the program he runs.”

Although he hasn’t visited Notre Dame yet, Haralson said he’s planning to visit the Irish in the fall and wants to see practice. Haralson has a preexisting relationship with assistant coach Ryan Owens from his AAU grassroots basketball program, Indy Heat.

"He texts me almost every day, either him or Shrewsberry," Haralson said.

From my perspective, Haralson plays really within his game and doesn’t force shots. He played team basketball throughout and got his teammates involved routinely while also taking advantage of his own opportunities.

Haralson told me the Irish love his versatility and see him as a combo guard that can score and create for others. He brought up Shrewsberry's ability to develop NBA players multiple times during our conversation.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo, Purdue head coach Matt Painter and assistants from Auburn and Ohio State were present for the game I saw. Haralson holds 10 total offers including Notre Dame, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State Missouri, Purdue and Wisconsin.

Story and video highlights still to come.

Recruiting Notre Dame has 2025 CB target Mark Zackery intrigued after June visit

Notre Dame 2025 cornerback target Mark Zackery is here at the Charlie Hughes shootout playing basketball for Indianapolis (Ind.) Ben Davis.

Zackery is coming off a strong camp at Georgia this week where he landed an offer from the Bulldogs. He said they’ve instantly jumped to near the top of his list because of their recent success and defensive culture.

Before he visited Georgia, Zackery was on Notre Dame’s campus on June 12.

“It went great,” Zackery told Inside ND Sports. “I got to talk to [cornerbacks] Coach [Mike] Mickens a lot. We got to discuss our relationship, how things are going to plan out and we got to go over some educational stuff a lot.”

The 6-foot, 160-pound cornerback also said his family delayed their drive back to Indianapolis because he spoke with head coach Marcus Freeman for so long. Zackery said the conversation went great and focused on life outside of football.

Zackery also knows Notre Dame men’s basketball assistant coach Ryan Owens from his time in the grassroots basketball scene with Indy Heat. Zackery said he spoke with Owens on his visit and discussed interest in Notre Dame men’s basketball.

“They’ve been talking to me about how possibly, I might be able to play both there,” Zackery said. “I feel like that’s going to play a big part in my recruitment into any school … being able to play both sports.”

Although he’s a three star recruit according to Rivals, Zackery reports 27 total offers including Cincinnati, Georgia, Iowa, Louisville, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Texas A&M, USC and Wisconsin.

Zackery told me he has Notre Dame’s game against Ohio State in September circled on his calendar for a visit.

Basketball MBB: Notre Dame expected to host Big Ten graduate transfer portal target on two-day visit

A source tells me Notre Dame men’s basketball plans to host former Rutgers guard and graduate transfer Paul Mulcahy on a visit Sunday and Monday.

The 6-foot-7, 213-pound guard has one season of eligibility remaining after spending four seasons with the Scarlet Knights. He announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal earlier this June.

As a senior, Mulcahy was named 2022-23 Big Ten Honorable Mention and started 28 of 30 games.

Mulcahy averaged 8.3 points and 4.9 assists per game. He shot 42% percent from the field and is No. 4 all-time in Rutgers history in career assists (457 assists).

This is someone who head coach Micah Shrewsberry is familiar with from his tenure at Penn State. Mulcahy had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds against Shrewsberry in a 65-45 win against the Nittany Lions in January.

Mulcahy plans to visit Xavier after the Irish.

Basketball MBB: 2025 PF target Trent Sisley updates recruitment, Notre Dame communication

I just watched Notre Dame 2025 power forward target Trent Sisley compete in his first game at the IBC/IHSAA Boys Team Showcase in Memory of Charlie Hughes.

Sisley and Santa Claus (Ind.) Heritage Hills lost to Indianapolis (Ind.) Tindley 69-62. Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo was in attendance for the entire game.

Despite the outcome, Sisley was impressive from start to finish. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound four-star recruit scored 40 points and was a pest defensively at the top of Patriots’ half-court press.

I spoke with him after the game about his recent contact with Notre Dame. He recently discussed his June unofficial visit.

“[Head] Coach [Micah] Shrewsberry texted me right at midnight last Thursday,” Sisley told Inside ND Sports. “To see that was cool and throughout the day, there assistants reached out, [assistant coach] Ryan Owens called me.”

Sisley, the No. 50 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class per Rivals, told me the message from Notre Dame’s staff has remained the same.

“The way I can stretch the floor and be able to shoot,” Sisley said.

Sisley has 10 total offers including Notre Dame, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue.

He told me Notre Dame, Indiana, Michigan State and Purdue are the four programs he’s in contact with the most.

I’ll have a story and highlights later. Sisley plays another game this afternoon and two more on Sunday.
