Conference Championship Losers

Any school who is penciled into the CFP bracket the week before going into a conference championship game this year with the probable exception of Oregon runs the risk of being left out of the CFP if they lose their conference championship game. Whereas, if they didn’t play in the conference championship game, they would remain in the CFP and get a week off to rest and heal. Didn’t all the brilliant conference commissioners like Greg Sankey, the SEC Commissioner, and athletic directors at the different schools see this coming? Perhaps Swarbrick did and kept his mouth shut all the while wondering how none of the other power players realized the sweet spot Notre Dame would always be in if they were among the highest ranked teams in any given year like this year with the hope they would always be in the running for the 5 through 8 seeds (ideally 5).

Football ***Place Your Bets 2024 standings: Compete for a free year-long subscription***

Place Your Bets is back for the 2024 Notre Dame football season.

I know what you’re thinking, it’s not quite game week yet. But this year we’re starting a week early to make some prop bets for the entire regular season as well.

Before we get into those, let me explain Place Your Bets for the uninitiated. Starting with these preseason predictions and every Notre Dame game week throughout the season, @Eric Hansen and I will make prop bet predictions as a way of previewing the upcoming game. We’re not wagering any money, but we do keep score.

We also keep score for our subscribers on The Insider Lounge who want to participate. The first-place subscriber will win a free year-long extension of their subscription. The second-place subscribers will win a free six months.

How do you participate? Starting this week and every game week of the season, I will share a Google Form link where you can submit your prop bet predictions. The link is usually live by Wednesday of each week at some point.

In completing the Google Form, you will need to include an email with every weekly submission. If possible, please use the email associated with your Inside ND Sports subscription. And make sure to use the same email each week. If you don’t use the email connected to your account here, you can send us an email to insidendsports@gmail.com to let us know which email you’re using and what your username is on the board.

That will not only allow us to reward the winners at the end of the season, but it will also let me include the correct username in our weekly standings.

The deadline for this first Place Your Bets with regular season predictions will be next Wednesday at 8 a.m. EDT. Then the deadlines in the following game weeks will be the announced kickoff times.

@jeffrnr is our defending champ. @rover219 was last year’s runner-up. Best of luck to everyone competing!

I’ll share a link to the prop bets both in this thread and in a separate voting thread as well. We’ll use this thread as the standings thread in the future.

Recruiting Notre Dame’s 2025 class drops to six commitments in latest Rivals250

Notre Dame had 10 commits in the Rivals250 the last time an overall update was released in August. Now there's only six Notre Dame commits in the Rivals250.

Though that shift feels big, here's why it's not that surprising:

It helps that five of those Notre Dame commits are within the top 105.

Basketball MBB: Freshman Sir Mohammed out indefinitely following surgery

Notre Dame freshman guard Sir Mohammed underwent surgery Monday for "a lower-body injury," the Irish men's basketball announced this evening.

Mohammed's is expected to recovery following an indefinite absence.

Mohammed had been dealing with a knee injury since this summer.

“We as the Notre Dame basketball family have been thinking about Sir, and are thankful that surgery was successful,” head coach Micah Shrewsberry said in a released statement. “Sir is a big part of our present and future. Under the guidance of our medical staff, led by our athletic trainer, Nixon Dorvilien, we are very confident that Sir will receive the best care for his long-term health as he rehabs and returns to 100 percent health.”

Mohammed didn't play against Georgetown on Saturday and averaged 2.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the first two games this season.

Football ***GAME THREAD: No. 8 Notre Dame 35, Virginia 14 (Final)***

It's halftime of the Notre Dame men's basketball game, so let's get the game thread for Notre Dame-Virginia rolling.

We will use this game thread as the primary home for game commentary from now until after the game. We have some rules we'll ask you to follow, which will be included below.

If you're not following the rules and do not respond well to reminders, we'll remove you're posting privileges for the rest of the day. We have too much to do today to argue about it during the game. This doesn't happen often as we're pretty lenient in the game thread, but please keep that in mind.

@HotCarNut has disciplinary powers as a moderator. You can argue with him about the game, but do not argue with him about the rules.

Our game thread rules:

1. Use this thread until the end of the game for ongoing game commentary. We'd like to keep the conversation in one place. If something from the game merits a separate conversation of substance, go ahead and start another thread for that topic. When in doubt, post in the game thread.

2. Criticism of decision-making by coaches and players is allowed. But please avoid making it personal. Don't be malicious. Remember, that person's mother could be reading your post. If you cross the line, you'll lose posting privileges for the day.

3. Don't be a doofus. Have some respect for your fellow subscribers.
