9/23 ESPN College GameDay will be at ND

Notre Dame seems like the obvious pick to host, but there are a lot of strong games to choose from:

16 Oregon State @ 23 Washington State - Normally no but has the intrigue of the two remaining PAC-12 teams
3 Florida State @ Clemson - Clemson has lost some luster but this is an ABC game
17 Mississippi @ 10 Alabama - Probably not
18 Colorado @ 13 Oregon - Even the media juggernaut that is Colorado unlikely to be featured in consecutive weeks
25 Iowa @ 7 Penn State - Longshot

Football ***GAME THREAD: Notre Dame 41, Central Michigan 17***

We're back for more Notre Dame football, and I expect this thread will be more popular than normal given the game is on Peacock Premium.

We will use this game thread as the primary home for game commentary from now until after the game. We have some rules we'll ask you to follow, which will be included below.

If you're not following the rules and do not respond well to reminders, we'll remove you're posting privileges for the rest of the day. We have too much to do today to argue about it during the game. This doesn't happen often as we're pretty lenient in the game thread, but please keep that in mind.

@HotCarNut has disciplinary powers as a moderator. You can argue with him about the game, but do not argue with him about the rules.

Our game thread rules:

1. Use this thread until the end of the game for ongoing game commentary. We'd like to keep the conversation in one place. If something from the game merits a separate conversation of substance, go ahead and start another thread for that topic. When in doubt, post in the game thread.

2. Criticism of decision-making by coaches and players is allowed. But please avoid making it personal. Don't be malicious. Remember, that person's mother could be reading your post. If you cross the line, you'll lose posting privileges for the day.

3. Don't be a doofus. Have some respect for your fellow subscribers.

I hate USC

I just had to say it. I watched part of the game yesterday and it just made me sick. They make a big play on defense and the whole defense does this ridiculous celebration in the end zone like the NFL idiots do. They have this nose tackle that is constantly dancing around out there. Of course, these are all paid for transfers from various schools. Riley has a great gig. He finds a need and goes to the boosters and they buy it for him. Their actions on the field remind me of the Pete Carroll days. This USC team and Deion Sanders rented semi-pros in Colorado are the epitome of everything that is wrong with the portal/NIL right now. I'm not much of a Texas fan or Alabama fan, but it seemed most of their players were recruited and/or developed in their program. Gotta say, Sark is one hell of an offensive coach. Saban had no answer for everything he was doing out there.

Recruiting Updates on the Notre Dame commits and targets in Friday's HSFB action

There is another full slate of high school football on Friday night featuring Notre Dame's 2024 and 2025 commits. This thread will detail this week's matchups for commits and how to listen or watch.

2024 tight end commit Jack Larsen kicked the week off on Thursday night. Charlotte (N.C.) Catholic defeated Providence 29-22 to move to 3-1 on the season. Larsen's stats aren't available at the time of posting but according to the Cougars X (Twitter) profile, he had some key receptions on the final drive.

Recruiting Ahead of Notre Dame visit, 2026 QB prospect Jonas Williams feeling excited

Notre Dame is hosting 2025 four-star quarterback target Bear Bachmeier on Saturday but there are also several intriguing quarterback prospects in the 2026 recruiting class planning to visit campus.

I caught up with one of those quarterbacks, Jonas Williams, before his trip. Williams is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound quarterback who has eight total offers from Illinois, Kent State, Louisville, Marshall, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Tennessee. He is also receiving interest from Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon and Wisconsin.

As a freshman, Williams threw for 2,737 yards and 37 touchdowns in 10 games. In four games this season, he's led Bolingbrook (Ill.) High to a 3-1 record. His stats were unavailable at the time of this posting.

"I am most excited to see the atmosphere because I know that Notre Dame has one of the best fan bases in college football," Williams told Inside ND Sports.

Although he's from nearby Illinois, Williams said he doesn't have many memories of Notre Dame other than owning a Notre Dame hoodie in elementary school. Saturday marks his first visit to campus and he already has a plan on what he's looking for during the game.

"I like their success and I can picture myself potentially being in blue and gold," Williams said. "I will be paying attention to the interactions between Hartman and his coaches throughout the game and see how they handle adversity because it is important that you have a coach on your side through the good and bad."

Notre Dame has offered five quarterbacks in the 2026 class: USC commit Julian Lewis, Brady Smigiel, Noah Grubbs, Jared Curtis and Ryder Lyons. Williams looks to be on quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli's radar and may receive an offer after the coaching and recruiting staff evaluates sophomore film at the conclusion of the season.

Williams said he plans to visit Michigan in November for its game against Ohio State. He's also looking at visiting Tennessee on a game day visit this season.

Recruiting 2026 RB prospect Anthony Liggins ready to experience Notre Dame visit

Notre Dame is expected to host several 2024 commits and one major 2025 target on Saturday. However, there are also plenty of 2026 prospects expected that could land offers in the next six to eight months.

I caught up with 2026 running back prospect Anthony Liggins before his trip. He is a 5-foot-7, 150-pound running back who received his invitation from recruiting analyst Dre Brown.

Liggins also plans to visit Wisconsin this fall, but Notre Dame's game against Central Michigan will be his first game day visit as a recruit.

"I am very excited to visit Notre Dame especially because it is my first college game day visit," Liggins told Inside ND Sports. "I'm looking forward to seeing the atmosphere, experience how it is to play a game there and meet the coaches."

The Racine (Wisc.) Case High recruit's lone offer is actually from Central Michigan. Liggins said he's looking forward to meeting running backs coach Deland McCullough and seeing the Irish offense and running backs in action.

"I will be paying attention to the running backs and the offense because I would like to see how the offense is run and to learn and pick up a few things from the running backs," Liggins said. "As well with the atmosphere to feel the energy."

Although still three years away from stepping on a college campus, Liggins cited Notre Dame's business and engineering programs as interests of his. He also said their championship pedigree is something he's known growing up in the Midwest.
