On Tuesday, 2025 four-star inside linebacker Carlton Smith released his top five schools. He included Notre Dame with Alabama, Maryland, Miami (Fla.) and Penn State.
Per Rivals, Smith is the No. 10 inside linebacker and No. 229 overall player in the 2025 recruiting class. He attends Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances and is teammates with four-star CB target
Kevyn Humes.
The Irish have yet to receive a commitment from the inside linebacker position in its
2025 class.
Dominik Hulak is listed as a linebacker by Rivals but was recruited to fill the VYPER position for the Irish.
Smith stands 6-foot-1, 205-pounds and was
one of the best linebackers Rivals national recruiting analyst Adam Friedman saw this season, along with other Irish targets
Anthony Sacca and
Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.
"Smith doesn’t blow anybody away with his size but he is an especially effective linebacker against the run and understands how to play well within a system," Friedman said. "Smith reads running lanes, quickly fills them, and is one of the more sure tacklers in the East region. There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to his potential and he still has room to grow."
