Basketball MBB: Tae Davis leads balanced Notre Dame effort in win over Western Michigan

Tae Davis played the best game of his young Irish career in Tuesday's 86-65 victory over Western Michigan.

“He's playing with great effort,” said head coach Micah Shrewsberry. “You know, he gets you 19 and 10 and he guards Hubbard for me … so he's got their best guy and he’s (still) scoring for you.”

Football Notre Dame LB JD Bertrand accepts Shrine Bowl invite

JD Bertrand accepts his East-West Shrine Bowl invite. That means both he and fellow graduate senior linebacker Marist Liufau, who accepted a Senior Bowl invite, intend to leave Notre Dame and college football this offseason.

Football Xavier Watts opting in for the Sun Bowl, still undecided about whether to return in '24

Just got off a Zoom call with Bednarik Award winner Xavier Watts, Notre Dame's senior safety.

He does plan to play in the Dec. 29 Sun Bowl vs. Oregon State.
He has not decided on whether to be an early entry to the 2024 NFL Draft. He already has his undergraduate degree and is a semester into a one-year Master's program.
Watts technically has two seasons of eligibility left, with a redshirt year and a COVID option year. I can't imagine he'd take both, but they are there for him.
When people ask me my favorite players I've interviewed over the years, let me put a bookmark here in that Watts would be on that list. He's the kind of kid you want to call up and thank his parents for doing such a good job.

I'll have a full story later this evening.

Did Dante Do The Right Thing?

I know that college football is in flux and it’s hard to know what the future brings. But using 20/20 hindsight, can we say Dante Moore’s decision to turn down ND looks like a good one? Meanwhile, Kenny Minchey might have had half a season of starting at Pitt had he stuck with his first commitment rather than flipping for the Fighting Irish? From my vantage point, biding your time looks like a big mistake for QBs in today’s cfb, no?

Football Podcast: Pete Byrne on Notre Dame's ongoing roster turnover

Football Report: Clemson WR Beaux Collins expected to visit Notre Dame

ESPN's Pete Thamel has reported that Clemson WR transfer Beaux Collins will visit Notre Dame on Wednesday and Friday. I mentioned Friday I was monitoring him.

He's been a contributor in all three of his seasons at Clemson. He had 38 catches for 510 yards and three touchdowns this season.

Collins was a four-star recruit out of St. John Bosco in California with an Irish offer. He camped at Notre Dame early in his recruitment and made an unofficial visit in March 2019.

My understanding is he was on track to graduate at the end of the academic year. I haven't received clarification on that yet.
