Will kelly defer if we win the toss against Texas?

Why would he defer? Strength is offense so go down and put up 7.
At home, Texas....huge game...wild crowd....it'll be amped....
I'm guessing kelly will take his read off Zaire and see if he's settled in then decide.
I'd prefer to get 4 of our 5 captains on the field for the opening series and defer.
Texas is going to come out swinging and we better be ready for a trench war/slug fest.
This is a huge statement game for both programs.
PS I still can't figure out how we opened with a substitution infraction a couple of years back (12 men on the field) and the guy that wasn't supposed to be out there was offensive Team captain TJ Jones.... very sloppy...
Sad but so true. I get it: score first or drive the ball for a few first downs and then pin the opponent deep on their first poss. Play the field position game yada yada but damn, if you have a disaster first half and are down by 10 or more points at the half, giving the opponent the ball first in the 2nd half is such a deflating thing. Defer every time, Einstein. Nobody ever complained when their coach defers til the 2nd half.

As was already meantioned ... I think the most we can hope for after Kelly elects to receive is that we don't have to take a TO or a delay of game on our 1st play from scrimmage

I agree. Inconsistent play has been kelly's "texture". He is capable of dialing up solid performances. They have been few and far between. I have a feeling we are going to need his best. Huge game...
Opening week has some good match ups Asu vs Texas a&m, bama vs Wisconsin, osu vs va tech....... big opening week, but no game matches ours'.....

Texas has decent defense, well maybe even good for the Big 12. The head coach has ran a lot of 4 and 5 star talent away since he took over. Thanks. From what I hear Strong runs tight ship. I am guessing the guys he chased off had some "character" issues that didn't fit his mold. That will pay long term dividends, but can make things tough in the short term.
