The Miami game will be a big test to see if the defense will continue it's upward rise.
They still need to clean up tackling--- But I am sure that will get better,
The defense even got a few sacks in the Stanford game.
2017 could be a big year for the Irish but we need momentum and we still have 5 to 6 games to get it.
If we make a bowl game this year--next year watch out !!!
Go Irish !!
Beat the canes !!

The DL and OL has to get better. Two weeks off needs to show improvement , otherwise, not sure how this team can compete with V Tech, USC, or even Navy.

The defense has improved and while starting two true freshmen and playing another more and more. There's no question that BVG was a terrible hire and Kelly sticking with him too long has really hurt this team. Wish I knew how much this improvement is attributable to Kelly versus Hudson or simply addition through subtraction.

Playing freshman defensemen is a wise choice at ND. Play them before they regress. Especially the DBs. Our last two 5* defensive players were squandered. Jaylon Smith was wasted in a joke of a system, underutilizing his talents to the max. Should I talk about Redfield? How about our high rated LBs that couldn't get in the field because this defensive scheme was too complicated to play a kid with speed and talent, so a kid with cement boots could be out there to make sure nobody knew what the heck was going on.

What would you have done scheme wise to utilize Jaylon Smith's talents to the max?

Kid was a freak athletically. Designed plays to get him in the backfield, etc. Heck, you could have had him sitting out there with a water bottle cart and he would have done more for the team.

Defense was flawless last week. No missed tackles either.

Jaylon Smith had many great games at ND ! Quit being such a whiney biatch ! BVG is gone !

Michigan, while I of course won't defend BVG or his defense, Jaylon won the Butkus award and if he hadn't injured himself would likely have been the #1-3 pick of the draft. Not sure he was wasted. Yes, I know you mean he could have gen had bigger results but still.....

I'm not knocking the kid. Anyone with a glass eye could see he was a freak. Why do you think Dallas took a flyer and wasted a year on him? ND did not utilize him to his ability. Van Gorder was a joke.

Bodie , hate to be negative here. The trajectory for the D is heading north the trajectory for the O is heading south. So same results see stanford. This is a game we should win like stanford and what happened there

I agree. Maybe it is because Kelly is spending more time with the defense instead of the offense? A big mess. Hopefully it gets cleaned up and we beat Miami.

They gave up 4 scores in about 10 minutes in Syracuse game then played in a hurricane and the Stanford who scored 5 points against Colorado.

Let's see what they do against va tech Miami and USC then we will know if they are any good.

Couldn't agree more

Kelly's insistence upon filling out his coaching staff with his cronies and recruiting too many of his RKG type players has finally caught up to him!

But no problems for Kelly - Happy Jack Swarbrick seems to be OK with all of it (not to mention the financial security of Kelly's 6-year contract extension....thanks again to Happy Jack).

BTW, do you think Harbaugh is utilizing Peppers talent and skill?

ND wanted Peppers really bad and went hard after him. Mr. Closer, 8 & 4, couldn't close again. That's why this and so many more instances of his failing to land great prospects, he is in trouble with everyone from the fans, to the students to the alumni.

its a merciful consolation that Michigan is not on the schedule this year. Not sure what I would dislike the most....BK's post game interview or Harbaugh's gloating.
