Georgia Tech Game

DJ has been awful his entire career
Except when he played against ND in 2020 -- 29-44, 439 Yards, 2 TD's, 1 rushing TD -- yes, Clemson lost to ND that night in OT I believe.

Yes, in 2022, he was not that good.

Yep, forgot about that. I think that was his only good game, LOL

Georgia Tech bypassed a 2nd in 22 for 3rd and 10 and Syracuse converted to pretty much seal the game. That was not smart IMO. Time was getting low but GT had enough time where they could clearly afford to have a running clock and call TO the next two plays. Bad decision making. McCord seemed to play very well from the parts I saw.

Arkansas had a dumb 4th down decision too IMO unless their FG kicker is horrible. Went for it on 4th and 5 from the OSU 23 in a tie game fourth quarter.

Those both split the difference imo. It may depend on what calculator the team uses, if any.

I didn’t watch the game but GT loses to Louisville and is now 3-2. Outgained Louisville by around 85 yards and four first downs. GT tried to cut the lead to two but had the kick blocked and returned for six points. Lost 31-19.

I still think GT will test this Irish defense.

Both teams should be a challenge but it’s probably better that Louisville won for ND’s perception. Beat a top 18ish team and maybe things are looking up.

Let's worry about Louisville.

I'd guess both BC and GTech thought that they were a lot better after big upsets of FSU. Our NIU debacle gave us advance notice, so that we did not have to wait to learn that A&M is likely to have another 7-5 type season.

I think GT's still a quality team. They played Louisville tough, as you mentioned. These are two of our better opponents remaining.

GT beat 5-0 Duke by a score of 24-14. Outgained Duke by 130 or so yards. 245 rushing yards for GT. I think Duke scored on a busted coverage for a long TD although they bypassed two short field goals IIRC. Quite a few screen passes from GT.

Haynes King is completing about 75% of his passes on the season and has been accurate aside from the statistics. This could be a serious problem to stop.

It’s a bit of a tossup between GT and USC for toughest remaining opponent but I feel a little more concerned against Tech.

They have 3-3 UNC up next and I think Tech wins. So they should be 5-2 with two close losses for the ND game next week. They probably won’t be ranked though.

41-34 win over UNC. 371 rushing and 505 total yards. UNC defense seems awful but that’s a lot of rushing yards. 5-2 now.

Georgia Tech could end up being a tougher game than most expect. They finished 7-6 only last year but they gave some good teams a battle.

They lost 31-23 to Georgia but moved the ball well on the ground. It was 24-17 in the 4th against Ole Miss before Ole Miss pulled away. They had a 28-13 lead over Louisville at half before losing 39-34.

My understanding is they return 4 of 5 OL, starting running back, some decent receivers, and a dual threat 5th year QB.

Their rushing attack was the best in the ACC and they finished #8 nationally in YPC and #13 in total rushing yards. It’s going to take a lot of discipline from the LB’s in this game. Luckily Asa, Bowen, and Kiser will have gotten some valuable experience before the game.

Their defense was absolutely atrocious last year. That coordinator moved on and they replaced him with Duke’s DC/LB coach (surprised he didn’t go to A&M with Elko).

The defense was #97 in scoring defense and #123 in total defense. They will almost certainly be better than last year. If they were just below average instead of horrible, they might have pulled out the W against Louisville and Georgia and they would be getting more respect.

So they might come into the ND game with a 3-4 record but they could still be a dangerous team.
Agree completely

It looked like GTech was playing for OT but then went like 50 yards up the middle for a TD.

There are more unexpected teams with good records at this point in the season that I can count: Gtech, BYU, ISU, IU, Illinois, PSU, SMU, Army, Navy. . . there will be a lot of sorting this month, with the usual bias for two conferences.
