Ole Miss & Georgia

That happens in football. ND would probably beat NIU by 18+ most times they played, correct? Yet they lost this time.
Mississippi didn’t just win, they beat Georgia up and down the field.

To say 8-2 Georgia deserves to be ranked over 8-2 Lane Kiffin is ludicrous.

It’s weird how you call Georgia “Georgia” but you call Ole Miss “Lane Kiffin”. Is there a reason for that?

If their schedules weren’t so different, I’d happily argue for Ole Miss to be ahead of Georgia.

I’ve followed Lane since he was an OC at USC and being fired as a head coach at USC.

Great comeback story, and IMO, a damn good head coach.

He’s perfect for a place like Oxford, Mississippi.

That’s awesome that ND is still ahead of Bama and Georgia. There’s even a little buffer with Miami there between Bama and Georgia/Ole Miss.

As it stands now, three SEC teams are coming up north. Would love that.

It’s a shame that espn is parading that phony strength of schedule around. It’s a sham. Hopefully the committee isn’t using that.
the computers love the SEC and I don't think they are biased.

Lane is out once he gets a better job offer; maybe not Tennessee.

I don't know the specific statistical models, but I do know ELO type models, like the ones used in chess or even ranking soccer nations.

Wins against higher ranked teams are weighted more heavily.

So if SEC teams start off higher ranked, sure, the winners tend to stay higher ranked.

Again, I'm just roughly considering how ELO models might bias the SEC in early rankings.

Some models are biased early on because there is not enough data but drop it once the web of team games connects everybody.

Out to where? I’m curious. Name a job that will be open soon that is a step up for Lane Kiffin that is a better job than Mississippi, a place where he recruits well, especially the transfer portal, and who is paying him amongst the top 10 head coaches in CFB?

You sure?

The SEC is a very deep conference this year. SCe and UK are not easy games. Even sub .500 Auburn has lost 5 games by 10 points or less.
ACC is just as tough as the SEC. ESPN will never argue that though. I should have said unless Alabama or Georgia are conference champs they won't jump an 11-1 ND.

“ACC is just as tough as the SEC.”

Wow. Something new. I have literally never read that anywhere, from anyone.

SEC is significantly more difficult than the ACC.

ND isn't ahead of Alabama or Georgia due to their ACC wins, they're ahead of them due to their win at A&M at night, one of the toughest places to play. WE all should be rooting for A&M to beat auburn then texas.

That is a great and fair optimization...and I hope these models are the primary ones evaluated.

Otherwise there is distortion regarding early rankings based on guesswork.

Better than Ole Miss? that could be open soon. Florida, Bama, Michigan, USC, Oklahoma.

The SEC has the best 1-loss team and the two best 2-loss teams, see both polls and computers. All of those won good out of conference matchups early in the year. That is why the #5 seed is valuable and why it sucks that it is probably going to the loser of the BUGCG . The 5th seed will likely play Boise at home and then the Big12 champion (fringe top 20 Arizona St?) in the next round; dodging the strong SEC teams.

The big 10 has the best 1 loss team - Ohio State.

They do have the best 2 loss teams

UT and anOSU are close but I think Texas is a little better.
Texas is not better than Ohio St from an offensive stand point. Texas is very good on defense. Ohio St is better because of their big time players at certain positions. Ohio St flat out has better skill guys and their skill guys are better coached. Offensive lines are equal imo.

How so? What is Texas' best win?

Ohio state has a better win and a more competitive loss.

Honestly we should be ranked ahead of them. They've done nothing. Probably the 4th best team in the sec

The ACC games have been great. SMU, Miami, Clemson, Louisville, Duke and Syracuse have played some good ball. Pitt has had it's moments but they were escaping some games early in the season and their good early record was fools gold. The SEC schools are no better than the ACC schools and that will be realized next week with the SEC ACC matchup's outside of FSU vs UF.
FSU is dog water this season.

I have never read anywhere from anyone that the ACC is as strong as the SEC.

I’ve never liked Kiffin, and add in his lying and firing as the Raiders head coach…his leaving Tennessee, his firing at USC…etc; but he’s always been a great offensive mind and play caller. I don’t know if he’s become a better character, but he’s definitely matured and become a damn good head coach. Mississippi is a great place for him, but doubt that’s his last gig. Some LSU fans are bitching that Kelly was hired instead of Kiffin. Kiffin at LSU would be scary.

Ohio Dt has the better loss, but again it is not by much. Texas lost to what is likely the most talented SEC team the week after they played their historic rival, clear hangover game.

I would need to see GTech play very competitively against UGA to buy that. We already saw the Dawgs cakewalk over Clemson.

Texas got blasted by Georgia at home. Ohio State lost by 1 at Oregon

Ohio state also has the much better win

It's not that close

UGA vs Tech is going to be a game. Miami is as good as any SEC team and SMU is not a fraud and is going to get a bye in the playoffs.
