Seriously, Stanford and Michigan State won't provide enough strength of schedule, no conference championship game to boost the resume, start looking at 2017.

Nice comeback, to bad it wasn't enough.

It's only over if you seriously thought this team was going to challenge for a playoff berth. We replaced about half of our starters. The team will improve, but you are still going to see the inconsistent play that has marked Kelly's time at ND: Can't run when we need to run; can't stop a nun in a wheelchair on defense, etc... This looks to me like the typical every-other-year down period.

You really thought this team would be better than 8-4?

This is the standard for ND football now. Anyone that thinks this program is going to consistently challenge for the playoff year in and year out is delusional. The reality is this program is at a point where it may get into a New Years six bowl every couple of years and more than likely will be embarrassed by a top tier program that didn't make the playoff.

Clown stomped every time!

With this head coach and this defensive coordinator 8-4 is very likely the ceiling.

Most felt today would come down to the last play and it did....Most predicted that TX might win a close one. Revenge, Home, experience....

No one predicted this would be ND's NC run year.....that was last year. This year is about replacing 16 of 22 starters. There are maybe 2 teams that don't peak and drop after a senior laden team, AL and OSU. Those two do not have the same level of challenges ND puts on coaches. Need a stud LB, go find one at a JUCO...need a 5 star, as long as he makes a D that's passing. ND has to develop players.....this is a dev year for next year.......9-3 likely, 10-2 achievable, 11-1 unlikely but in the relm with Kizer. Give the youngsters a chance to develop and watch this season unfold.

Glad Kelly got that extension. That means BVG did as well. Many exciting games to follow in the seasons ahead.

Purse , you said this in another thread. Stop posting the same BS going on 30,000 times. Now with a new handle. Come on!!

seems the big game, big stage, same result.
And it always seems that there is some factor in the result that is not the play on the field or the players, that adds to the calamity: the coach.

Failure to name a starting QB, to allow the starter starters practice, failure to allow the QB to continue in the flow of the game, these are important points. Lack of chutzpah in being reluctant to make an excutive decision.

QB decision had nothing to do with this. You score 44 and you should win, regardless of the opponent. This is all on the defense, which stinks year in and year out.

Join the ACC then. You won't regret it. When you are an independant you don't have a Conference Championship to shoot for even if you lose a game.

Actually quite a few (at this site) did predict a ND NC run. Some even predicted a 14-0 result. Now if you mean the gurus and sports personalities. NO, none did.

Agree ... 44 points "should" win every time. This wasn't on the offense. It had nothing to do with Malic playing. They stopped Kiser several times. It was on the defense. The entire defense. The DL/LB couldn't tackle and the DB's were getting beat all night. ND is lucky the throws were a tad off or it could have been worse.

I feel for Kiser. You throw five TD's and rush for another and lose. Tough.

this loss is on the Coach and his staff. That is where the matter ends.
it has been 3+ years in the making (recruiting).
Fault no, but we saw the matter is that the level of ability of the staff is just not at the contenders level.
That is just a talent/ability reality, not a fault. It is the state of the program. Other teams are bypassing ND now.

Notre Dame would actually have a chance to make it back into the playoff picture if they were in a conference. I know ND people don't like the conference talk issue, but not having and winning a conference championship game will likely all but eliminate their chances unless some bizarre things happen. Your strength of schedule is definitely an asset, whereas if Clemson losses a game and even makes it to and wins the ACC title game may still be out, but their chances may be better than ND just by having that additional game and usually quality opponent. Good luck on the rest of the season.

clearly the season is not over, there are 11 more games.
but worse case scenario is the annual post season beatdown as the result of being over rated.
better 'the abandoned car bowl' and a W.
