I'm delighted

I said the whole time USC would not win all 3 of their remaining games. That was a tough stretch and I didn’t think they had a good enough team to do it. They very well may have if Caleb didn’t get banged up but I’m glad they didn’t.

Ohio state will give Georgia a much tougher game

Caleb doesn't play defense. Utah put up over 500 yards tonight. This Beat down would have happened if Caleb was 1000%. Utah actually came into this game far more banged up than USC.

Now we have to deal with Ohio State in the playoffs. I’ll take USC in the playoffs over Ohio State all the time. Ohio State fans are simply unbearable to be around.

Like I said before the ND game, same ole Lincoln Riley, stood on Bob Stoops shoulders as long as he could, then took a bunch of players to USC.

Rinse and repeat, another Heisman QB, and another cotton soft football team, that gets embarrassed on defense when it matters most.

This should be Marcus Freeman's worst team, if he can figure out how to do this job, and this will probably be Lincoln Riley's best team.

This will be Riley’s worst team. ND is lost right now.

The way the first quarter of the game went, I thought Utah was going to get steamrolled. Amazing how quickly it all unraveled for SC. Yes, it was enjoyable to watch. Caleb Williams just didn't have it after the first quarter. Looked like he banged up his leg somehow, and he wasn't able to pull the Houdini acts that he repeatedly did against ND. After watching him strutting around in the ND game, it was nice to see him get a big helping of humble pie, though I still suppose he is the favorite to win the Heisman. Hats off to Utah; they played a great game. Kyle Whittingham is an excellent HC. He seems content to stay at Utah, but wonder if some bigger names will come knocking on his door some day.

I wanted to see both USC and Ohio State make the playoffs... along with Marshall and Stanford....

I was pulling for Utah more than rooting against USC. They outperform year in and year out. They run fast and hard, break tackles and spin or cut to force missed tackles; they hit like a ton of bricks on every tackle; both lines shoot out and get a good push; they always seem to have a really good rushing attack, and this year an above average complimentary passing attack. Just really appreciate the way they play the game, and last night was no exception. Whitingham has done a great job with that program. last night’s game made me appreciate more how poorly we played last week on both sides of the ball.

Excellent coaching!

I want Purdue, TCU, and Georgia to get wins today. Not an Ohio St fan at all, but my dislike of them doesn’t come close to my dislike of Michigan. A Purdue upset would be so damn sweet!

It really must be true that Lincoln Riley really doesn't care that much about defense and simply doesn't prioritize it in practice or in his broader football culture that he fosters and creates. Because it's not like they don't have good players on defense at OU and now USC. Plenty of highly-recruited dudes. I'm sure they have good coaches too....

And absolutely last night they were true to form. Utah is a pretty tough, solid team I would say, and they simply overwhelmed USC. Physically and competitively. 'Soft' would be an absolutely fair way to characterize USC's play.

Most of the players on defense were picked by Helton not Riley. Remember Riley was hired just a couple of weeks before early signing. The guys he got from the TP were pretty good. I anticipate about 12 from the portal this year, maybe he will do well, we will see.

Buddy, we're talking about LR and not Todd Helton. Meaning, and what we're all saying, is that it was also like this at OU, and they were never much on defense there, and now it's the same thing here. That's the whole purpose of this sentiment, to describe and assert how LR teams are soft, from team to team to team. Not that when he gets his own players that it will be different. That he had his own players at OU, and they sucked on defense too.....

Come on man, don't be like this. You already overdo it with the pretentious modesty, and now you've dedcided to start pushing back on it. After getting your ass absolutely stomped last night, in a full-blown beatdown. I suppose as a fan it's your duty to represent for your team. But if the book on LR is indeed correct, don't expect it to improve much.....

I am searching for the part of my post that claimed we weren't stomped last night or that our defense is good, just didn't find it. I am not sure I agree that Riley has never had good players on defense, which is what your post says. I do think Grinch's defensive scheme is poor which results in many problems.

To me your claim that Riley doesn't care about defense because he doesn't have good players on defense makes no sense because most of the good players on SC's defense, including an all American cb were recruited by Riley through the TP.

I am also not sure what "pretentious modesty" means. As I understand it, modesty, refers to one's estimation of one's own abilty, not that of a team a fan roots for.

Finally, what does Todd Helton have to do with your point, did you mean Clay or did I miss something?

I don't know who you think you're talking to, but I don't generally suffer fools on the interment, or at least not on this sorry-ass message board. So I'll repeat it one last time, and then we're done. As far as the argument that LR is a soft-ass coach, with soft-ass teams, and he's already proven that OU where he was the HC for four years..... it doesn't matter that he gets his own players in there, and it doesn't matter who the hell the previous coach was, or who those players are. Get it??

If LR is your coach, then you're going to have a soft-ass team. That is the critique. And this is not some news flash, this has been the tag on him while he was at OU, rightly or wrongly. And last night's beatdown was just another example of a LR-coached team, now at USC, being exposed in this way. And a particularly brutal one, as that was a real beatdown that Utah administered. The last three quarters the score was 38-3 or something? Actually it was 44-7. And just manhandled, and overwhelmed....

Beach, I believe the gist of the post is that Lincoln Riley’s teams with or without his recruits do not perform well defensively. That was his knock @ Oklahoma.

I have never asked you to "suffer" me and have no idea, "who you are". It might be better in the future if you write what you mean. What you wrote was," Riley really doesn't care that much about defense and simply doesn't prioritize it in practice or in his broader football culture that he fosters and creates.'

This is like saying ND doesn't care about offense because its offense is poor or ND doesn't care about quarterback play, If what you meant was Riley has had many poor defenses, that is true. Saying he doesn't care about defense or doesn't prioritize it in practice is not, IMO.

End of that story.

As much as I loathe Ohio State (attended the 1995 and 1996 games), I hate southern cal with the intensity of a thousand suns (grew up in Southern California). Southern cal can lose every game as far as I’m concerned.
