Because southern teams very rarely have to come up north and deal with the elements the northern teams play in. But the northern teams go south often in August and September and deal with with their conditions

It's a nice turnaround
Another example of why SJB is the softest POS on this board

Is there any actual evidence that climate impacts teams from certain regions more than others? My guess is that that is one of those old sportswriter folk tales that don't actually hold up to the evidence.
....It's a sample of one game but do you remember the 2010 Sun Bowl between ND and Miami? Temperature below freezing and the Miami players looked like they'd rather be doing anything else than playing a tackle football game under those conditions.....

I believe ND is 10-0 against USC at Notre Dame Stadium since 1977 when there is measurable precipitation - during the game. Anecdotally, I have been to a handful of games in South Bend when the weather has been miserable and we played teams from warm clients. The difference in player attitudes/energy is evident from the stands, not as obvious on TV when rewatching the game. I can say as someone who has played football in extremely cold climates, there is a big difference hitting, being hit and the impact with the ground when the weather is cold. Helmets, pads and turf don't respond the same when it is cold. Add into it the fact that these are kids, many of whom have never seen snow, much less played football in it - it makes a difference. ND could have a decided advantage playing at home in December.

How the heck is Ole Miss still ranked? They beat . . . South Carolina. oh and SEC.
It comes down to $$$ SEC and BIG10 are the premier conferences in college football, and they will get as many teams as they can in the CFP.

I have never understood the fascination by some delighting in players and fans enduring sub freezing temperatures for four hours. I fully understand why quarter final, semi finals, and final games will be played in domed stadiums and warmer weather locales.
Is it fun? Not really but if you dress for it you are okay. Years ago I was at a very cold ND vs USC game and I could tell USC was not prepared on the sidelines and their fans were not as well. Meanwhile being from Canada I own proper footwear, gloves, a "touque" and a warm water resistant jacket....so no it was not pleasant as the USC sweater girls were covered up.
