247Sports Reporting possible exit deal with Kelly

ND needs to fire Kelly now before other schools lock down the best coaching candidates.

Armstrong must be thinking, 'I got these guys between a rock and a hard place, all I need to do is let it ride!"
Kelly is anything but contrite!

addition by subtraction is the best way to look at Kelly leaving ND.
Anything beyond that is icing on the cake.

Oregon perfect for HCBK.. really... ND way to big a job for him. Ducks have great support for coach and program from Nike and Admin... HCBK can concentrate on getting better during games where he was terrible. ND takes more than just recruit and manage. NDHC has to live up to the standard set by the greats and that includes politics of admin. Kelly was overwhelmed by the challenge of trying to find Student/Athletes who can honestly navigate ND which softens the fight with Admin. Those special players are out there. It takes an inspirational leader to do this job and HCBK is not up to it. He is an intimidational leader. Smart, talented players want more. GO KELLY to OREGON !

Zona -- that is the thing that is most bothersome to Irish fans -- it is utterly quiet on ND's front. Nothing from Kelly, the administration, assistants....as you said --are they recruiting? I realize they cannot speak about specifics, but something to keep the fan base engaged. I know the old saying -- no news is good news, but with all the uproar about the inuendos of Kelly's people inquiring about opportunities (true or false, no one really knows) -- even a statement by Jack could help semi-calm the nerves of people.

And yes, I am sure there is a lot more going on behind the doors than any of us will ever know about. But, it is eerily quiet on the ND front.
I believe that the "quiet" is Notre Dame riding out the media piling on and the fan frenzy....they will wait all of this out and quietly proceed with Kelly at the helm.. Yes, stipulations will be spelled out for next year...but we won't hear about the details.

they will have decimated any institutional self respect if they fail to act on the despicable.

It's called the Ostrich effect - you put your head in the sand or in Jacks case up somebody's backside and if you can't see the problems then they don't exist.

This is one possible explanation, but if so, the harm to the program going forward, the loss of goodwill from the fan base and the deep demoralization of the ND family and friends will be far more then the Administration comprehends - it's called a bubble they live in. This is reaching a serious tipping point. Suppose you are right, and we begin next season with Coach 8 & 4 (or is it now Coach 4 & 8) and after we lose the first game imagine the pressure as it begins to build from within the team and fans. And we lose a second and a third, where will the fan base be? Will the students, alums and subway alumni care anymore, not just about the football team, but the school itself? Except the students sure, maybe... The contributions will be effected. The recruiting will come to a real slow down and the depression of all surrounding the program will begin to metastasize to everyone involved with athletics and the school. Yes this will happen, I have seen this before, to a limited degree, with Willingham and Weis - one difference - a big one, this is 15 years later of this garbage and ND football will cease to be any serious discussion point in college football. A "Georgetown West" with a nice women's basketball program. If that is what the Administration and Board of Directors wants, gird your loins, because it's coming. It will be time to find something else to involve yourself with, come a fall, Saturday afternoon. When does women's volleyball start?

I am not sure if these reports are accurate. Just my guess based on questions and statements here. Assuming the Head Coach's are permitted to visit players for recruitment... Is Kelly still recruiting ? If yes then he will be most likely be back; if not the admin is most likely negotiating an exist strategy for Kelly and looking for a new coach at the same time. The article provides info that the Irish cannot afford to fire him. My best guess is that is complete speculation not fact. The admin can afford to and more than likely does not want to waste their money. However the real question is can they afford to keep Kelly. I still do not get the delay in announcing intentions. i gotta believe their will be a presser one way or the other. The students, the fans, the media are clamoring for info
Helfrich was doing in homes the night before he got canned.

You really should write novels.
