A total embarrassment. Was agonizing to sit through.
Clemson game means nothing. It was an outlier. This is who ND is under Freeman and Rees.
Rees absolutely needs to go. There’s zero reason to keep him IMO

It's Navy. You take the "W", throw everything out for the week (film, stats, weird personnel, etc.) and get back to football on Monday.
Navy chewed through 8 mins in the 3rd quarter on one possession alone.
It's hard to get yards when the opposing team is running the ball and waiting until 1 second on the clock to snap the ball every. single. down.
We had 6 possessions second half 5 if you take away the kneeling possession… walso had great field position

It was a bad second half of football for sure im not trying to absolve anybody of their responsibility as it relates to having the team prepared to play better vs a bad Navy team.
I'm just saying that there are factors in play that contributed to making things look worse than they really were.

Oh sure. Rees has 27 wins as an OC in his 3rd season. He's easily in the top 3-4% of OC's with that winning %.
If ND didn't have a ~20 point lead going into the 4th quarter their entire offense AND defense would have operated differently. That's why it's silly to cherry pick stats from a single half of football which is already a tiny sample size.
It was like the offense was running in quicksand. They looked awesome in the first half and Navy took the air out of the game starting with a 10 minute drive to start the 2nd half. I afraid to say if Navy had a little more time they might have pulled off an upset.

It certainly was based on how we did against Clemson.
I think Rees had some good play calls in the 2nd half. Pyne just did not execute. He overthrew Mayer on what would have been a TD. There was a play where he threw long into the endzone into coverage when there was a back for a check-down throw open by 20 yards in the right flat. Rees has enough of a football pedigree to be throwing the word check down out there in every QB meeting. When Navy was bringing everyone, there were hot receivers open but Pyne held the ball. I like Pyne but he does not see the whole field well due to his size..
Again it's on Rees and Freeman to recruit QBs that are at least 6'2", have strong arms, and just enough speed and quickness to buy time in the pocket.
Also, the defense and offensive line obviously had a letdown after the Clemson game. That's pretty easy to do when your next game is against Navy. We need to dominate BC and then beat down SC's defense.

Even Holtz had close calls against Navy and Army. Alabama has had close calls and losses against lesser tems over the years. I can look back to my freshman year in 1970 and see that we played down to the level of some teams and we have almost every year. Check out the Navy score in 1988 when we won the NC.
The most troubling thing is the lack of growth. Every game even against the very worst opponents are still a threat this late in the season

NO! ND has played down to its competition for the better part of 20 years. That's a coaching problem. Freeman needs to get rid of that mentality, and it won't happen overnight.
Rees clearly has the mentality of letting off the gas or moving away from what's working and getting cute with the plays.
Freeman needs to tell Rees that until we are up by 40+, Rees does not let up or start getting cute with the offense.
That was a pathetic 2nd half display. I don't know if it was the Navy DC outwitting Rees in their chess match, lackluster effort overall by our offense, poor play by Pyne or some combination of all of those.

Yes good point. But defense held to a FG. Next possession was horrible, then the pick and the game was on. Our first possession of second half needed to produce points and should have been screens to Styles, wheel routes to Tyree or Diggs, 5 yard outs to Mayer…
