Recruiting Latest update to The Heat Index (1/2): Notre Dame's not quite done in 2024 class

With the reclassification of four-star CB Kevyn Humes from the 2025 class to the 2024 class and Notre Dame's continued pursuit of him, I've updated The Heat Index today to reflect the following ...

Humes being added with a heat rating of "Hot" ahead of his official visit in late January.

Recruiting How Notre Dame has quietly amassed a talented 2025 defensive line class

Ahead of 2025 four-star defensive end target Christopher Burgess Jr.'s commitment on Saturday, Inside ND Sportsdives deeper into what the Irish have already built along the defensive front in the 2025 class.

If Alabama had a good center snapper they could have won

I have never seen a worse center snapper than the Alabama center . I watched Alabama play a number of times this year their center can’t snap the ball back to the QB . There either on the ground and the QB has to pick it up or he snaps too hard and goes over the guys head . Timing is everything in a close game the center was the single biggest reason Alabama lost

Changing of the Guard; Bavacqua

I had to google his name so I wouldn't mis-spell it.

First off, I'm still on the fence about Denbrock being a HR hire but i'm warming up to it a bit..

But many of you think he's the golden boy and hiring Denbrock after his LSU extension offer of 1.5-1.8M/year is a sign that ND is not the same program it was last year when it played hot potato with Ludwigs buyout.

If that's the case and ND turned the page and is becoming more and more invested in winning in college football, what was the Catalyst? I doubt it's Fr Bob, although he might be a staunch supporter of football.

Many people think getting Pete B. was ND's assurance of a new NBC deal, but what if getting Pete B was NBC's assurance that ND would continue and progress it's commitment to championship level football?
Here's your money ND but we need assurance you're not going to fall back to your late 90's early 2000s ways..

If that's the case I think ND will be in good shape going forward.

ND next year's Michigan?

While the stars aren't fully aligned like Michigan this time last year...it certainly appears that ND is in a position to make a run. Yes, questions on o-line, and perimeter, but if the bowl performance is an indication of potential, I like our chances. Defense should be loaded which usually bodes well early in the season. Give Reiley and the offense time to gel along with an expanded playoff, and the scenario to make a serious run is there. At least from my homer perspective :)

Basketball WBB: Season over for ND freshman G Emma Risch, who is set for hip surgery

I have my football live chat coming up in mere seconds, so I'll make this quick and post more completely later. ND's potentially best 3-point shooter — freshman guard Emma Risch — is out for the rest of the season. She'll have surgery Thursday, per Notre Dame women's basketball coach Niele Ivey. The 16th-ranked Irish head to Pittsburgh tonight for an ACC matchup with the Pitt Panthers Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
"I thought our performance team did a good job of trying to get her back," Ivey said. "So, wishing her a great surgery, healthy recovery and looking forward to having her next year."

Again, I'll have a more complete story later.

It's time for the final round of Place Your Bets for the 2023 season with Friday's Sun Bowl against No. 19 Oregon State (2 p.m. EST on CBS).

I detailed the results of the Stanford prop bets here and updated the standings for the season.

We'll share our own predictions for the Oregon State game Thursday on YouTube, but you can start submitting your predictions through the Google Form now.

Here are the six prop bets for the Sun Bowl:

Over/Under 15.5 completions for ND QB Steve Angeli
More carries for ND: Jeremiyah Love or Jadarian Price (tiebreaker yards)

Who will lead ND in tackles?
Over/Under 1.5 forced turnovers by ND
Season-ending tiebreaker: Total points scored in Sun Bowl

2024 linebacker signee Teddy Rezac posted this on his X/Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Teddy and his brother, 2024 quarterback commit Anthony Rezac, a preferred walk-on, were high school teammates with Jones at Omaha (Neb.) Westside.

Jones, a four-star outside linebacker, visited with the Rezac’s for the Ohio State game in September. He originally planned to visit alongside them for the USC game in October but did not.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Jones has 16 total offers and Notre Dame’s main competition is shaping up to be in-state Nebraska.

Jones recorded 55 tackles including 39 solo and nine for loss, four passes defended, one forced fumble and one interception as a junior.

Michigan Natty: good or bad for ND?

I'll say good.

This is the ND Athletic Department's biggest nightmare, and the ND powers that be will be stupidly motivated to pressure Alums for NIL funding and push the envelope further to get ND where it needs to be in order to compete effectively.

ND is a sleeping giant. It doesn't have a chance v the likes of Alabama or Georgia, and seeing Michigan beat Bama enroute to a Natty is a significant wake up call. The juxtaposition of watching ND get dominated by Louisville and a mediocre Clemson after scraping by Duke, and then watching Michigan win it all will boil Irish blood.

Football ***Place Your Bets 2023 standings: Compete for a free year-long subscription***

We're adding some stakes to Place Your Bets this year.

You may remember that last year we had The Insider Lounge compete as one entity with some voting through Google Forms. The end result was a tie between me and The Insider Lounge.

But this year, we're letting you all compete on your own. The Google Forms every week will require you to include an email with your submission. As long as you use the same email every week, we can keep track of everyone's results throughout the season.

We'll want to know which username is connected to each email address, so we're asking you to email insidendsports@gmail.com with a message that includes the email address you use to submit the form and your username on The Insider Lounge. We can then share the weekly standings on the board as well.

And saving the best part for last, we'll be awarding free subscription months to the top two finishers. The top subscriber will get a year's subscription for free. The second-place subscriber will get six free months.

I'll be sharing the prop bets for the Navy game here in a little bit, but I wanted to create a separate thread to explain what we're hoping to do.

And as always, we'll have a YouTube video on Friday in which @Eric Hansen and I will make our weekly picks.

Basketball MBB: Game Thread | The Citadel 65, Notre Dame 45 (Final)

Notre Dame men's basketball will host The Citadel in Purcell Pavilion tonight with a tip at 6 EST.

The Irish (4-6) have lost four of their last five games with an overtime loss to Georgetown on Saturday. The Citadel (6-5) enters Tuesday's meeting above Notre Dame in the NET Rankings. The Citadel is 209. Notre Dame is 223.

The Citadel opened the season with a pair of losses to ACC teams: 72-59 at NC State and 75-71 against Boston College. The Wolfpack is 7-3 and the Eagles are 8-3. So don't be surprised if The Citadel puts up a good fight against the Irish.

Sophomore guard AJ Smith leads The Citadel in scoring with 16.6 points per game. Elijah Morgan, a former walk-on guard at Notre Dame, is the only other scorer averaging double figures (11.7).
