Will the three new receivers obtained through the portal

All I can go by is Eric and writers on this and other sites who have watched CJ in practice -- all have been unanimous in their praise of CJ. His leadership but mostly, the way he spins it. He seems like the guy. But, and fans are right, all QBs have a learning curve. It would sure be nice if Angeli stuck around to come in when needed. I don't expect that.

Ewers is an NFL level QB -- who has thrown for over 8500 yards and 63 TDs for three years. Ewers becoming Irish would make us (with our elite Offensive Line, RBs and defense) a top three contender for the title next year. Hard not to take a look at him if he is indeed available. Not sure we get through next year's tougher schedule and make the playoffs with an inexperienced QB.

In this case I'll trust the coaches -- I do think the disappointment in 2022 at QB might figure in any decision. We'll see.

Football Some quick practice observations from Saturday morning

The media was invited to watch stretching and the first three five-minute periods of practice before we departed. We have interviews coming up shortly with offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and a handful of offensive players. I'll share a few of my observations from up top, and Tyler James -- who was taking video on the field -- will fill in with some of his as well later on.

Can Jagusah work his way into the lineup?

My ideal unit would be left to right Lambert, Schrauth, Craig/ Knapp, Jagusah/ Jones, Wagner. Would not surprise me one bit to see one or two guys enter the portal in the spring.

I was not a lineman but how difficult is it to move someone from o line to d line ?

We have some really athletic o lineman that play with a nasty streak. To maximize the “team “ potential , Kelly did it with Jerry Tillery why can’t we do it with some of the abundance of o lineman we have. Are we really better off if some guys transfer out. ?

The way it looks is we have too many o lineman and not enough D lineman there’s going to be some guys that are highly rated recruits who are going to go somewhere else to play.

No, you generate the hate. You take responsibility for your own emotions. You don't blame somebody else. Like you can't effin' help yourself or something. That's how you guys think isn't it. But that's civilized society, you still get to unleash your rage, but you have to have a cover story, have to have an alibi. In simpler times strong men didn't have to worry about that. But now, if you want to get all enraged, you want be all aggressive, in a society of laws, you have to be able to blame somebody.

Navy is a top G5 team while OU is a bit of a mess this year, plus they just experienced a mass of transfers preceding the game while Navy presumably suffered none. For some reason, which we won't get into, the SEC are the avowed enemies on some sort of brutal, primitive level of ND, even though I'm not sure the feeling is terribly mutual. And so any opportunity is taken not simply to glory in their various failures and defeats, but to actively attempt to delegitimize and discredit the SEC in the event of such a defeat.

So it's not a stupid comment. I was just mocking you. And the SEC is still the dominant conference, even though Bama didn't deserve to get in to the playoff at 9-3.

So what you mean to say is 'Yes, we do no need a QB', since you are counting on our youngest QB taking over the starting spot, thus precipitating the transfer very likely of at least Minchey, who certainly can do better than sitting on the bench his entire college career, and possibly even Angeli, who also is good enough to start at a p4 program, but he might not get a big enough offer to outbid ND, and then just stay at ND, even if he longs to start, and just live out the life of an NFL backup in effect.

Let’s say a player gets a 2 million dollar NIL deal to play for LSU. After one year , another team says we can get you 6 million if you come to our school. So the player leaves. I would too. But if you sign a contract stating we can get you ( insert amount) of money , but you must stay for 3 years. No one is forcing the player to sign. But if he does, he has to stand by the contract, no reneging. I think that’s fair. Each individual player can negotiate whatever they can get. Heck , get an agent so you have representation. Whatever the deals is with the school, then that’s the deal until the contract expires.

So want the players to sign contracts that include terms that would induce them to or prohibit them from transferring so flippantly and frequently. Which is seemingly possible, if the players were willing to agree to that, that doesn't appear to be the industry standard. I think the arrangements are that you sign monthly contracts, and if the players do bolt, they can just not be renewed, and nobody loses any money. Rather than getting the whole million all at once or whatever, maybe they get a signing bonus. I think that's how they might do it in European soccer, they're always talking about their weekly wages. And they get a pay check essentially, instead of a guaranteed lump sum or something.

I mean it's just the free market, if the players don't want that, or they demand too much to agree to something that would restrict their freedom and penalize them financially for transferring, then contracts like that won't get off the ground.

Go look at my post history. I have been posting off and on at this board for years. I only talk ND football (no nonsense, like some of you) and I’m a reasonable dude, go look at my post history if you think otherwise.

I work a stressful job, am battling various tick borne illnesses, am involved in numerous extra curriculars and have a family. I don’t know when I would have time to sign into multiple other accounts and talk to myself.

He could. I suppose he'd probably stay if he was getting paid enough. He's as good or better than either of these two transfers. But you never know, money talks. And he hasn't really caught a lot of passes thus far, so maybe he want to go play in a more explicitly and proven passing offense.

I'm sorry, what is it you want to accomplish here? Who is it you want to minimize? This WR from Wisky had over 70 catches in his junior year, that's a good thing, and a good sign, that he could be a good player for us, maybe even catch a whole shitload of passes for us. Did you just invent this theory that production doesn't matter at the WR position so as to advance some argumentative agenda?

Mills is a special player and we don’t have anyone who can do what he can. That means Bryce Young needs to step up. RJ Oben can you please do something? Is Brennan Vernon a bust? We have bodies behind Mills but I’m not sure any of them have game breaking potential.

Oben has been a real disappointment this year. When you see him rush the passer he doesn't even appear to have any moves outside bull rush. No dip, no spin or anything.
