Dr. Smallwood, a graduate of Indiana University, is a board member in the Academy of Comprehensive Esthetics (ACE) and an advisory doctor/instructor for Align Technology. Dr. Smallwood teaches numerous courses in Arizona and internationally for dentists wanting to learn the most contemporary concepts in today’s dentistry through his Mastering the Aesthetic Xtreme Seminars. Along with consulting/teaching with major dental manufacturers, he is also a member of the review board for the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry. He is a past instructor with the Hornbrook Group, and in 2003 he was named the co-director of the Advanced Posterior Program. Dr. Smallwood recently authored a publication depicting innovative illustrations of smiles called the Platinum Paradigm and the Platinum Paradigm 2, designed to aid dentists, patients, and ceramists alike in providing a platform to expand their aesthetic outcome. With more than 20,000 copies in print, the Platinum Paradigm second edition was released in 2008. Dr. Smallwood has developed an innovative over-the-shoulder program specializing in education for efficiency and productivity in the area of smile design in addition to advanced programs in case presentation and building wealth in and outside of dentistry. He has spoken internationally at venues such as the ADA, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, ACE, London Society, World Aesthetic Congress, India Power Aesthetic Programs, and state conventions throughout the United States. In 1997, he was honored for excellence in prosthodontics by Indiana University, and in 2005 he became the official dentist of the Miss Arizona USA and Miss Arizona Organizations.
