Does a win over Syracuse and Army earn him another year? Let's hear more excuses as to why it's not Brian Kelly's fault.

If you aren't rooting for Syracuse this weekend then you are actually rooting against the future for ND football.

well, the actual goal is to win win win.....win; it has never been to get rid of a head coach.

(no, I still dislike him, but firing for the sake of firing is not achieving anything. He has to Win to stay, because it it the reason he was hired. In doing so he needs to not lose self control and embarrass ND)

the premise that people that back Kelly are making excusing is not at all fair. Personally I want to back him. However, the defensive play over the past few years culminating this year has been a disaster. He chose friendship BVg over the interest of the team and himself. BVG should have been released at the end the season last year. This is all hindsight for me. I am never one to ask for a coaches head. That said has the team missed on recruiting you bet. Have players that would have helped left the program you bet. Is it all Kelly's fault for some of these things probably not. Overall, Kelly hired a guy did not recruit in fact some say he did not want to do it. He hired a guy who had some bad schemes in games that we could of or should of won and now the Defense is about 2 years off from being a competitive unit. Not only that this has caused IMO to not work as hard as they should during the game. So even if we go up 14 against a bad Duke team one thing goes wrong they essentially quit. In addition Kelly's recruitment this year could be in jeopardy and it appears to be a decent class. So right now there is not a game on that schedule I would put a W on it, Look at Army and Navy: Wishbone type offenses but we cannot tackle. We could lose one or both those games. Saturday's game against Syracuse we are going against a team that can score. Are we going to stop the Orange. From what I have seen no.

So bottom line Kelly deserves to be fired if we lose to syracuse or Army or navy or ncst . I believe we lose to Stanford, Miami and yes USC

Not true.....

I doubt Syr. is much a factor in any decision.

Navy, Stanford, Mia, and USC are the 4 rivals that will get weight in the decision.

Unless the decision has already been made.
Note that there is currently no mention or comment that any consideration was given to bringing in an outside DC.

Sage. True. Money.

PERSE, If the Irish lose to Cuse I would be surprised if he makes it to Monday. We may have a meet and greet at the tarmac.

nah, Can't see Jack being so decisive. He is slow and deliberate. hopefully we don't find out who is right on that.

A loss to Syr. will magnify a loss to either USC or Stanford.
A loss to Syr and Navy will force a decision but the actual firing will be at seasons end.

UNLESS, the ultimate choice is to be Sanford. If so a mid-season decision is possible.

If Sanford is not the choice for ND and he leaves, it will cost ND a QB or 2 or even 3. Losing Sanford is a game changer!

He just signed an extension. He will be at ND for years to come.

You are correct and they were paying Charlie for a number of years also, I am sure they do not want to fire him but they will do what is right for the university. Kelly's not a bad coach but maybe his time has passed

Bob Davie had just hired an extension before he was shit canned. Charlie Weis and Willingham had time left on theit contracts as well. That we be no factor at all, as history has proven. If thr PTB want him gone, he is gone. Period. ND can afford, and is willing to pay 2 contracts. See Weis and Kelly.

What did they say the stadium expansion is costing on the game telecast? Coaches are chump change.

It's not about wins the rest of the way. They will pick up some wins by default...yes even you sarcastic pricks out there we'll win some games.

However what he can't withstand is anymore embarrassing football.

Anymore embarrassing displays in either side of the ball he'll be gone.

MSU could have run that straight ahead
I 42/44 .., I-62/64....whichever you prefer ..
They could have run that play at will and virtually did so. Embarrassing moments like those he can't afford anymore.

Timeouts to punt, cole Luke absolutely lost in outer space......receivers getting behind our secondary with such ease any play they want....

Special teams cluster ****s.

He can't withstand anymore embarrassing football, period.

This is sad. Incredibly sad that the ND fan base is pulling for the Irish to tank so they can get their way, or so they think so. BK has wiggle room this season and will be back in 2017. Tom Herman is not coming no matter how many times you bring it up on this esteemed board. I am looking forward to the game this Saturday. I want to savor every moment of DK as our QB because he probably won't be here next season. I want to see our OL improve by each game. I want to see how BK handles the defense and allows more defensive players to play. Something BVG wouldn't do. What would be the reaction of DK or Josh or Nyles if you told them , face to face, that you want the season to tank so BK would get fired. It wouldn't be pretty.

No bowlgame = No Kelly
Unless bigtime candidates all are gone and Kelly can recruit a legit DC.

Not the ND fan base. One guy.

I think there has been a lot of wishful thinking for going on two decades now.

I know I've never been particularly fond of Kelly, but I have hoped that he would succeed, just as I hoped Davie. Wellingham, and Weis would succeed.

There are a lot of people here who think the administration sabotages football; that a great coach can be conjured up with the wave of a few dollars; and that we basically need to allow in a half dozen hired guns to put the team over the top.

I'm afraid its all more complicated than that. The landscape has changed greatly. There have been scholarship reductions, practice time limits and a raising of the general admissions bar at ND. On top of that, college football has become a mega money machine, and state schools can throw around tons of money for the best coaches.

this forum hates it but the answer is and has been in recruiting. All along there has been that false hope that created the inflated expectations. Inflated expectations that are not met result in frustrations. Season after season the cycle repeats. Just check the recruiting rankings and expectations will be realistic.

ND caught lightening in a bottle in 2012; every possible thing that could break ND's way did and everything that could go wrong for those in front of ND did.

ND is not a complete team; and depth is not at the elite levels. Still trying to catch lightening in a bottle again!

Notre Dame will blow out Syracuse this weekend. It is a given. ND will struggle with everyone else on the schedule. After this weekend we will hear oh it was Van Gorder all along etc. and now we are great again. It's fools gold. I think we are looking at slightly above .500 this year. And that's enough to part ways with Kelly. When Kelly coached at Cincy.. he would always throw long at the end of a close game and a receiver would make a big catch. He seems to have forgotten what worked for him and he even has better athletes now. I think he is stressed out of his mind and this is his last year. He should go and coach Purdue. No one will bother him and he can go 7-4 or 8-3 every other year.

I am not saying your wrong all these points most you are correct on. However, Notre Dame can afford to throw money at coaches. The question is do they want to. What notre dame needs to do is to be able to recruit reasonable borderline students. heck they do not have to chemical engineering majors, They do have aides to help these students. The also need a top tier coach if Kelly is fired or an up and commer with a willingness to promote D with the offense

Zona, you keep looking at the big picture and I will handle the day to day operations. You find the next big coach and I will figure out a way to stop Syracuse's vaunted offense. Deal?

If kelly (and imo it's a big if...I refuse to believe they can beat us) lays an egg versus Syracuse it could get ugly with the student section...

A lost to syracuse would be a huge factor in any decision. A win, agreed not much
