I think there has been a lot of wishful thinking for going on two decades now.
I know I've never been particularly fond of Kelly, but I have hoped that he would succeed, just as I hoped Davie. Wellingham, and Weis would succeed.
There are a lot of people here who think the administration sabotages football; that a great coach can be conjured up with the wave of a few dollars; and that we basically need to allow in a half dozen hired guns to put the team over the top.
I'm afraid its all more complicated than that. The landscape has changed greatly. There have been scholarship reductions, practice time limits and a raising of the general admissions bar at ND. On top of that, college football has become a mega money machine, and state schools can throw around tons of money for the best coaches.
