OT: Las Vegas Active Shooter

All these tough talking SOB's in here would be singing a different tune if their daughters were slaughtered last night. #Fact

God bless Donald Trump and the populist agenda. Hardcore right-wing nut jobs are just as bad as the lying liberals.

So hypothetically ........bad guy kills good girl(and since we are talking about my daughter good girl) with a firearm that's going to persuade me from my stance on firearms

Does that really make sense to you?

BS. You can't possible know that since pretty much no research has been done about gun violence since 1996. The government can't and doesn't spend money on gun violence research in large part because of the Dickey Amendment. You have NO idea what the actual percentage of gun owning Americans are responsible. If you are going to make a bold claim like that at least try to back it up with facts. That is the whole problem with this debate. It is devoid of facts, reason, and logic.

I own a handgun(1911) so I am not against gun ownership. I just happen to be for reasonable gun control. My best friend is a SF operator and even he does not own that kind of arsenal. He has his service 9mm and his wife has a 9mm. Nothing crazy. Civilians should not own combat rifles. ARs, AK's(congrats on owning a russian made weapon) , Barrett m107A1 .50 cal semi-automatic 10 round rifle(.50 cal sniper rifle basically), and others are meant as instruments of war. Why own those guns for protection. Slow draw and not easy to navigate close quarters like a handgun is anyway.

Things you can do to keep your family safe:
Don't live in a bad neighborhood if you can help it
Upgrade or install a state of the art security system like I just recently did. 360 degrees of camera coverage.
Buy a dog . I have a Perro de Presa Canario. Highly recommend.

Very well trained, great with my kids, and also suspicious by nature. Exactly what I wanted. Will protect me and my family to the death.
What a country huh!

So not surprised you all are politicking this. You who are doing it.....man.....have you no soul? God have mercy on you. Maybe we should just pray here.

How about a background check on everyone that buys a gun? Yes, I know his mother bought the gun.

How about limiting clips to 10? Why does anyone need 30 round clips?

I'm sure @deadirishpoet has those for his neighborhood watch.
Every state does a background check first. It's mandatory. Then you fill out registration paperwork. Then the serial number is matched with a ballistics test certificate that matches the firearm to your purchase. If your gun was purchased legally it is traceable. If you are a felon you will be denied. End of story. And that's a fact jack look it up !

Keeping silent about gun violence shows profound disrespect to the dead.

"Whenever a mass shooting occurs, supporters of gun rights often argue that it’s inappropriate to bring up political debates about gun control in the aftermath of a tragedy. For example, former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, a strong supporter of gun rights, criticized former President Barack Obama for 'trying to score cheap political points' when Obama mentioned gun control after a mass shooting in Charleston, South Carolina.

But if this argument is followed to its logical end, then it will never be the right time to discuss mass shootings, as Christopher Ingraham pointed out at the Washington Post. Under the broader definition of mass shootings, America has nearly one mass shooting a day. So if lawmakers are forced to wait for a time when there isn’t a mass shooting to talk gun control, they could find themselves waiting for a very long time."

Politics aside. there is no excuse for this tragedy . It pisses me off when I wake up and see this stuff knowing that there is still evil in this world . I think we all wish we had the correct answer here. Unfortunately there is good and evil in this world and that is something I think we can all agree on.

40% of guns are sold by unlicensed dealers. This includes at gun shows. There's no background check required in these instances. I'm sure you knew that though.

Some states only require background checks at licensed dealers for handguns.

Trust me dude. Chicago has some of the strictest if not the strictest gun laws in America. I have a lot of relatives living there. On top of it the liberal mayor won't do a damn thing to stop the non-stop senseless black-on-black murders.

This is overstated. The city dropped is gun registry years ago, and you can get a concealed carry permit in Chicago exactly the same as you do in the rest of Illinois. For a whole $10, and a criminal and mental health background check, your Chicago relatives can get a firearm ID card and legally buy guns and ammo. If they want a concealed-carry permit, they can take a training course and shooting instruction required by state law (courses are available in Chicago) and pay $150 for a concealed-carry permit that lasts for 5 years. So assuming your relatives are not felons or domestic abusers, the should easily be able to get a gun, and carry it, if they want. I have a number of friends (mostly women who live alone) that do.

The city does ban some assault weapons, as do many states and cities, it requires you to file a report if your gun is stolen, and it requires trigger locks or safes for guns in homes with minor children. That's about what remains of Chicago's gun laws. Some of the suburban municipalities still have tougher ordinances in place, but Chicago's have been successfully defeated the NRA.

Even when Chicago had strict gun laws, the sentences handed out were significantly lower than nearly all major cities. Even now, the mandatory minimum jail-time for illegal possession of a handgun in Illinois is one year. In New York City, its three and a half years.

Is it as Barry McGuire says?

Guys... It is time to get these guns (and the 'upgrades' that allowed him to fire multiple shots per second) out of the hands of anyone but Law Enforcement and the Military.

Keep them locked at gun clubs if people need to shoot them.

I have to say after Sandy Hook I lost faith in our country. I lost faith that we can ever really do something to stop this kind of gun violence. 20 5-6 year olds were murdered that day. I remember I pulled over to the side of the street and cried. Today is just as bad.

We need to do something to shut this down.

Maybe D.T. as the guy who can make a deal can help us make some changes? Even my friends in the NRA agree this has to stop.

Lets work together and gets these kinds of guns out of the hands of the people who shouldn't have them.

Nine rounds a second. Look I'm begging my conservative friends to help me on this one. I have two 20 year old sons who go to these concerts all the time! It is time that we fight the powers that be (corporate interests/gun lobby) and protect our families. We trust hunters and responsible gun owners to do the right thing. But something has to change.

And here lies the problem of legislating this

Stu, no way in hell your friends in the NRA agree with you that guns should be taken away from everyone except law enforcement and the military. A scenario that our founding fathers were expressly against. Trump has suggested before that he is interested in some form of strengthening control over firearms, and he may in fact be the populist maverick that can bring something positive about.

Trump is not interested in anything you just said. Are you serious?

Because it's a military weapon. Are you fighting a war in your neighborhood?
Any weapon is a military weapon silly that would include my wife's snub nose 22.

So you are going to be the arbiter of what Americans need and don't need?

Thank goodness the Supreme Court agrees with me and not you

I really wonder about some people today, great our fore fathers believed we should arm ourselves against the "enemy" depending on which side you were on. An here we sit squabbling over an amendment ratified in 1791, in a society that doesn't exist today. Society should understand with time these rights/laws should change especially if our technology has gotten to that point. Something is seriously wrong with people who believe you need tactical weapons that can gun down 500+ people in your household in a matter of minutes.

They think it's about them, the arguement is always about me, the second amendment protects me blah, blah, blah blah. This is why there is such division in society today, if people stop thinking about me, and think about us, this would be an easy decision. The problem is and will always be we are a selfish society with selfish people and that is unfortunate bc we can't comprehend situtions like mass shootings and mass murder is our fault bc we do nothing but hide behind a selfish amendment, instead of thinking about everyone else. Sad just sad.

Do you really feel the act of this madman was your fault?

I don't

It is a big, complicated country. And you certainly support our big government ($700 billion, dwarfing all others) military.
Because the Constitution specifically States federal government is responsible for protecting our nation.
Not education not Healthcare those are state issues

We don't need $700 billion per year in protection from Canada and Mexico.

Well maybe not from Canada, but why can't you see the threats around the world to this great country.

Open your eyes!

Just driving bye but damn guys, if I knew this was a party I would stuck my dick in the mashed potatoes. Yall have a good rest of the week, lets beat the Tar Heels.
