No more jumping celebrations

guys this wasn't some over the top celebration that caused this. it was a virtual high five or chest bump...the thing where kids jump and twirl in the air (I know but kids right?) if the irish banned it they may as well go back to grass, ban music, and forget about the video board because they would be viewed as so out of touch there wont be anything they can do to recruit talented kids.

the Grammatica injury, Houston last year...and the lions player...those were all stupid over the top celebrations where karma stepped in and got a win. what happened Saturday was just bad luck.

Johnnie, I really like your posts, but I have to disagree here. You can't ask them to not enjoy themselves, plus every team does it. It's a game of emotion.

Looking at the replay, he came straight down on it and it just caved in. I'd be willing to bet something had happened before and it was partially torn. It just needed a little something to go the remainder of the way.

our staff banned them two years ago. miraculously the kids have survived.

You have two large athletes jumping high and making contact. It's no surprise that one or both could possibly come down awkward. The play happened directly in front of me and having two large human beings jumping high and making contact is a recipe for disaster. It happened immediately and Jaylon knew it. Just because it may or may not be the norm doesn't mean it is justified for the good of the team. If BK won't ban it, the captains should. Its ironic how we had discussions about the cut block all week long then this happens. Make no mistake that this chest bump is not like any of us doing it, lifting two inches off the ground and bumping beer bellies. I'm against it for the good of the season. Drew was so upset he wouldn't take his helmet off after the game ended. As a fan, Drew's injury and the way the defense didn't finish put a pause over the final outcome.

How about the players take it upon themselves to say "Don't do it for Drue" as a way to honor Drue.

You can hurt your back getting laid too - ban that for the kids

Be more positive Jack - it feels better

Nothing positive about an Irish player who was having a great day suffering a season ending ending injury for no reason. These lads might be interchangeable parts to some, but not to me. Talk to Drew and Jaylon and see how flippant their attitude is this morning. I feel for Drew and his mates who have been lost for the season.

Maybe don't ban it, but just make sure to point out that we have to be careful when celebrating. Hopefully they'll get the message without having to put a rule in.

Hard to keep guys from getting excited and celebrating but there has been a number of serious injuries in both fb and mlb with this chest bumping routine. Staying grounded and high fiving should suffice.

Amen! At least for the rest of this season.

Longo has to be one of the worst strength and conditioning coaches out there. It's a severe injury every week since the team got back from Culver. Smh

I agree with your first couple of statements but I can still dunk a basketball on a regulation rim. Not everyone in here is a fatty :).

It was ugly IrishJack--watching it on tv we could hear Tranquill yelling out in pain. I imagine it was worse watching it live right in front of you.

This isn't new. A lot of teams have "limited" this. You will see players do it but they don't jump nearly as high. It's a very half hearted version of what we all think of the jumping chest bump celebration. I don't think it's so much the jump or the land but when the player lands awkwardly and twists his knee.
