N.C. State Game Thread

No offense taken man. You are free to hit the ignore button on my profile if my opinion is offensive to you or anybody else for that matter.

Well, it’s honestly starting to get to that point. I think you’re just being overly sensitive to what I wrote. As you are aware, I’ve defended you for your right to have an opinion in the recent past. I’m only saying that you’re being overly negative and should probably tone it down a notch. Your F+ rankings are a decent talking point at times, but they are not without faults.

Based on what criteria? Because the ND media has been hyping up the game for the last week like some mid-tier crap ACC opponent is the 1985 chicago bears in order to drum up interest and have a built in excuse if ND loses?
They went 8-5 last year, despite losing their QB partway through the season, with wins over FSU and UNC. And Armstrong was one of the leading passers in the country in 2021, at Virginia.

If NC State was so bad why did Vegas only make them a 7 point underdog ?

Agreed. I think he might be a difference maker on defense before this season is over. Very impressive.
The defense has been really impressive with a lot of players emerging which is a good sign for the future of the program.

Incoming grad transfer Thomas Harper got a lot of work yesterday and was really productive.

Anytime you get good production from unexpected places and all of the rest of your regulars are living up to the hype it's a really good sign of player development.

MF and Golden are getting the job done on that side of the ball.

I responded to this point you made earlier in the thread. My guess is that Vegas had NC State as a 7 point dog not because they respect NC State but more because they don't believe Notre Dame was significantly better (prior to week 2 results). Obviously they were wrong after ND won by 20+ points.

You are free to enjoy the team and follow them and contribute and be apart of the community in the way that you like. I want a winner at the highest level and im tired of the narrative out there being that it's asking too much.

ND has all of the advantages in the world and their last 25+ years has been a complete and utter failure by just about any measure.

We don't need to wait until after Saturdays to see that the program is losing. Despite some nice wins vs poor teams ND is still losing right now as i type this. Look at the class they are bringing in. Look at how far behind that class is relative to their competition. Look at their aggregate talent ranking, F+ ranking, their personnel hires, look at their stupid handicaps in regards to the transfer portal and their archaic stance on NIL and player compensation. They are losing as the college football landscape continues to pass them by.

It's frustrating watching this and instead of leadership at ND acknowledging and rectifying the situation they piss on the fan base and call it rain and way too many people in this fan base are happy to lean their head back with their mouths open wide and drink it up. I'm not one of those people and i'm not going to apologize for it either.
Save your misery, go follow another school, you clearly don't understand this one. I must admit I really didn't think anyone could be this stupid. You post as if they owe you something, well, they don't. The owe the student body and the alumni, who understand what "we are ND" means, and that's it.

You are just as bad as those fans who come on here after a big win over an overmatched opponent and say we are on our way to a national championship. Except in your case, it's a relentless rehash of your opinion that the university doesn't do enough to win at football. And in doing so, you reveal over and over and over again that you have absolutely no idea of what the University of Notre Dame stands for.

In addition, their defense held FSU to 17 pts last year, and they held UNC to 27 in 2 OT, with Drake Maye having one of his worst games of the season. So their defense was very solid last year.

I like how somehow the narrative has been concocted that if you want ND to win football games, and you expect the university to match the loyalty and enthusiasm for the football product that the fans have for it, that it makes you an outsider who doesn't get ND.

All very convenient point of view to continue to excuse away mediocrity and incompetence in perpetuity.

NC state had a top 10 defense last year even after you adjust for schedule and luck but they lost key starters on the DL and in their secondary and haven't recruited the type of athletes to maintain a top 10 defense in 2023 and beyond.

After week 1 their defensive efficacy was way down from last year according to F+ which is why their overall ranking is down from last year as well.

NC state is a mid team ranked down in the mid 50s who had a decent record last year (due to a weak schedule). Great defense but equally bad offense to negate it last year.

We're going in circles now, so I'm gonna bow out of this argument. I've made my point that I consider NC State a dark horse contender for the ACC championship this year, based on coaching, returning players and additions.

Except it’s 2023. Stop being intellectually dishonest

OK.
3-0
Averaging 47 pts
Giving up a total of 3 tds
AP ranked # 9
is " incompetence "
News to me . If so I'd like to see ND continue with that type of incompetence for the entire season and CFP

I have ZERO complaints about the way ND has opened up the 2023 season. They've been impressive and have surpassed my expectations through three football games. My point is that we've been down this road before and we all need to maintain some level of cautious optimism instead of thinking all the problems have been solved and we are on the fast track to a national title now.

Three victories vs Navy #101, an HBCU FCS team not ranked in the top 133, and #54 NC State. Granted they've been impressive one sided stomps and ND has earned some momentum in the 2023 season as a result.

Good start, but until ND starts winning the teams that matter consistently, there's still a lot to prove and it's ok to criticize and maintain a healthy level of skepticism based on their track record in the meantime.

edit: also, 3 impressive one sided stomps doesn't wipe away an off-season where the program took L after L after L after L after L after L after L

Games are played on the field during the season troll ....
Not on the Irish rivals Under the Dome site
They play them one at a time
ND s played 3x so far and are
3-0 / and decisively
Can't do better than that
We'll see how the rest of season goes but so far so good
Who would complain except you lol

Lol I see Chase my Balls is at it again! I like Parker as a OC. He figured out the mismatches and put the offense in the position to score. Bad weather game. Tough environment. Defense is balling. Ohio st game will tell the tale on where the Irish are. Duke game could be a trap game. Enjoy every Saturday boys and girls. Looks like a fun team to watch!
IT has been mostly good with Parker so far. There are a few dead plays and he does not look like he has complete confidence in his own system from the head shots in the booth.

The truth is, all of the underlying data still supports that ND is the same program its been for much of the last 10 years.
Okay even if that were true it would be a plus. The last ten years have been a generational peak. You have to go back to peak Holtz to find a ten year stretch as good as the last decade.

But we are likely better. The last decade saddled ND with Rees-bation (starting qb) and BVG (free points). Those factors are not likely to re-occur.

You actually complain a lot.
ND has all of the advantages in the world and their last 25+ years has been a complete and utter failure by just about any measure.

Yeah, those Vegas guys are clueless !

According to you they know nothing about football, especially Notre Dame football.

I guess that’s why they build billion dollar hotel/casinos and send limos and jets to bring gamblers to Vegas where they comp them with suites, wine, women and shows and still make millions per year.

Three (3) games is a minuscule sampling pool.

NFL talent all over the field would have dominated the game from the opening kickoff.

NFL talent all over the field wouldn’t have the score at 24-17 with 28 seconds left in the third quarter.

You know nothing about football !

Never said they know nothing

You made up another thing i never said because you are a liar

Like I said, Vegas doesnt know this team, they were wrong on all 3 games. 2 of those games by Double digits

Yikes

Nfl talent all over the field that's why we are scoring 47ppg and giving up 10ppg

Maybe Vegas will learn this week

Penn St has played WVU and Delaware

Ohio St has played Indiana and Youngstown

Michigan has played UNLV and East Carolina

Georgia has played UT Martin and Ball St

USC has played San Jose St , Nevada and Stanford

How many of those teams matter consistently ?

Bama, LSU, FSU, Texas, Mich, OSU all have NFL talent all over the field and have had tight games or losses. The 'other guys' give scholarships too

Dude the ND defense has given up just 3 tds in 3 games . No matter the competition in first 2 games that's excellent in any reasonable person s opinion. Today they really only gave up 1 legit td. One of NCST tds was gifted by poor officiating imo with 3 major penalties called on ND on one drive. 2 at least of the calls were suspect imo. The last TD came in last 5 minutes of game with ND winning 45-17 and back us up s playing. ND D has been consistently excellent so far this season. Find something else to bitch about....
It's nit picking .. but 1st team D has given up 2 TD's... 2nd and 3rd team on that last TD.
