Amazed at how many "Kelly sucks" threads come up when ND trails. There are a lot of spoiled babies on this board.

Who would have guessed that the Irish would have the season they have had with the losses to injuries they have had?

This ... Thank you. Cooler heads should always prevail. I think Kelly is our guy, but I do think our DC should be further evaluated. Nit because of today, rather 2 season long reasons. 1) we gotta be one of the worst tackling teams I've seen. Lot of broken arm tackles, meaning we are out of position. 2). We do not cause turnovers. 14 on the year is pedestrian at best. And BVG is suppose to coach an aggressive style

cooler head is the one on the shoulders of Kizer.

and who in hell gets embarressed by comments of others on a football message board?
narcissistic?

Pers, you must have a lot of people on "ignore". They are everywhere. I'm not saying this team has fired on all cylinders all year long, but wow give these kids and these coaches some credit.

to be fair ... he has recruited defensive players till the cows come home; they just will not come to ND.
(and if they did they would probably get suspended for something anyways!)

Asshole alert from a guy who definitely didn't go to ND, if he went to college at all

thanks for warning us...you are talking about yourself - right?

(btw: how do you decide which ID you will sign in with to post your sunshine pumping dribble?)

@football1irish
I'll agree with you on that. These second and third string players shouldn't be in the top 20. However they played their tails off and defied the odds.
Kelly has done well with what he's been dealt.

Malik Zaire should be penciled in as next year's starter. Unless Wimbush. proves to be Superman,I have seen enough of Kizer and don't wanna see anymore.

You think Kizer is the problem? Is that a joke or are you serious? You have noticed that our defense flat out stinks, haven't you?

1. Notre Dame starts slow in too many games.
2. Notre Dame does not get stronger as the season progresses. Very good teams do.
3. Notre Dame has not had a consistently strong defense for years. 2012 was more an exception than the rule.

Sorry, the above are obvious and it is not whining to point out the obvious. I, for one, do not walk around with blinders on.

This just in! Kelly does suck! Welcome to the real world!

welcome to the "real" world
Yes, because I'm the one who is naïve!

Tell me please how the real world works. Do you go to the awesome coach store and pick a perfect coach that everyone agrees on? Then let me guess that coach gets all the blue chip recruits available, win back to back to back titles while going undefeated? Is that the real world?

It's the same no energy game over at 14-0 we always see out of a Kelly team. You're clueless.

Two straight possessions in the second half and the O didn't do anything. Three straight to start the game. Some people will always be clueless.

All good points. However #2 makes my point. Good teams get stronger, but this team is ever changing all year long. New players each week. How can you establish consistency, when the team is consistently changing?
I'm not saying I agree with everything Kelly does. My question is who would have done better, and what better results would you have wanted this year considering the adversities?

Fire Brian Kelly! Hire Chip Kelly! We have all 4 and 5 star players on offense and constantly run garbage in key situations. There are no excuses on offense. Hire Chip. I could care less what he did wrong in his past. Our offense is more wrong than whatever he may have done.

You comment as if the HC and the Team are separate entities. Who is the architech of the team? Who is the CEO of the team? Who is the decision maker for the team? And yet, he holds no accountability?
Questioning the leadership and performance off the results is a fair discussion.

^^^. Moron!

My God, all the idiots are here today.

Great effort by an over matched Orish team!
Sling mud at those who call the truth.

You are indeed on a higher level of knowledge than us peons who point to six years of no major wins in January.

I hope you include yourself in the idiot category Tim, Argus, Big Fella, etc. Coach Kelly did not have these guys ready to go. Down 14-0 early they could not recover. Brian Kelly cannot win the big game at Notre Dame. Could not get them over the hump at Clemson, blew the lead with :30 left at Stanford, and now today, blown out by Ohio State. Good coaches clean up on the gimmes on the schedule and Kelly certainly does that well, however, great coaches put their teams in positions to win games that matter, games that elevate programs into the elite status, games that make the difference making recruits want to come to your school. Kelly has not done that in his tenure at Notre Dame. Even Northwestern, which got trashed by Tennessee, put together 10 wins this year. So what. Quit making excuses for the guy. If ND is outmanned, the question is why are they outmanned? That falls on the coach. MSU didn't have a problem beating this Buckeye juggernaut in Columbus without their number one quarterback, yet ND gets its ass handed to it. Time to look at the coach in my opinion.

Have no problem holding him accountable for the season they salvaged from what could or should have been a train wreck.

Can't win these kind of games with a patchwork defense and a first year quarterback. It gives quality, senior laden, well coached teams too much in the way of opportunity.Too many young mistakes on a thin team and that includes Tillery and Redfield.I also tend to agree that the staff has over-recruited o skill positions and under recruited defensive athletes.I don't know if the numbers bear me out on this but that is my impression.

There is no question, in my view, ND will have a real problem going forward because the university runs the football program and not the other way around. Guys like Meyer and Saban would never come to ND because they would never be able to get the players across the board into the university. I don't have an answer for this issue. I am afraid we will always be Stanford. And yes, there is no question ND suffered devastating injuries this and last year. Is there someway of reducing these injuries? Is it just really luck?

In the late 80s Phil Steele printed an in depth analysis of the future of ND football taking into account all of the recruiting and NCAA changes. His conclusion: ND would see a long term decline in defensive strength and a decline in winning percentage. The Holtz years were a last gasp, like Chief Joseph's March. Tomorrow is a new day, and there are clearly more important things in the world.

How are we overmatched? OSU was missing 3 top defensive starters. We were missing no one other than Procise on offense and he probably could have played him.The D actually perked up and kept us in the game in the 4th quarter but our offense sucks. We beat no high quality teams this year and then end on a sour note. This isn't Notre Dame football this is something else. Bring back Skippy and Old man Lou!

I respectfully disagree with you greengael. Kizer has matured as a quarterback throughout the season. He played well today. Again why the excuses with the injuries, et. al. Every team has them. OSU lost Bosa early on and didn't miss a beat. MSU went to OSU without its starting quarterback, a likely high NFL draft choice, and beat OSU. Are you going to tell me that MSU has more talent than ND? I don't think the recruiting rankings would bear that out. I think they are better prepared by their coach. Some people on this board would scream heresy if you told them that Mark D'Antonio is a better coach than Brian Kelly, but I think he is hands down.

Same old, same old...this is what you will get each year. How much more evidence you will need for those Kool-Aide drinkers, who knows. Kelly's talent is not as a game planner, game manager or as someone who understands how to prepare a team to play important D1 games. He has reestablished the program, deepened the roster and put the pieces in place - but he never will be the one who brings it home. That's just the way it is. Maybe in 6 more years of frustration and disappointment people will realize this. Simply, Kelly is just not a great coach. Period.
