Not overall. He has done some very good things for the program. But in one category he stands alone. he is the best at this - he is the one and only ND coach to directly make decisions on the field that cause his team to lose.
Kelly is good for giving the other team at least 7 points a game thru his bone head decisions.

Sure Davie had his bad decision against Nebraska and not going for the W Every coach has a few. Kelly excels at putting his team at a disadvantage every game.

Against a ball control NAVY team who is very difficult to stop he goes for a field goal and lets them run out the clock. FIRE HIS ASS

Add them up. Tulsa, FSU 2 times (Champs bowl infamous halftime adjustment to call off his effective blitz, FSU losing on last pass illegal pick play, South Florida, the list is lengthy. By worst coach ever, I mean in game decisions. In this regard, Kelly has no equal.

No, BK's overall 8-4 records have been solid and recruiting has been very very good, but BK's inability and unwillingness to make adjustments costs his teams games.

BK is better than Davie, Willingam and Weis, just not good enough.

Auburn fired a coach 2 years removed from an NC after a 3-9 season.

Kelly has been the best coach in the Era of Mediocrity. He gets a mulligan for this year, but if he can get to 8 wins next year, he'll be firmly entrenched. Swarbrick just built him a Taj Mahal to football competence (not football excellence). The money shall roll in. No championships necessary.

You didn't read the OP's comments. OP was spot on.

Skibro. As you defne it, yes Kelly is the worst ND coach of all time. And there isn't even a close second. It all started with Tulsa. He lost me after his first game. Everything that has followed is just more of the same. 2012 was an anomaly. Weis's recruits, Diaco's defense and every break went ND's way. The other 6 seasons have ended with at least 3 losses. Kelly's consistent if nothing else.

if he finishes out his contract he most definately will have been the least effective coach in ND history.
In fact he already is!
