C'mon already.
The guy looks like a walk on out there.
Diving and tackling air.
Can't get off blocks.

Get Morgan ready. C'mon.

We deserve to lose based on leaving Schmidt in there alone, it is beyond laughable, it is beyond obvious, it has moved into some sick, twisted, mental illness to keep him out there. He can't cover, he can't tackle, he can't shed blocks, there is no possibility of exaggeration in stating how awful he is on the field and how he castrates our defense. I take back everything I ever said defending the coaches if they keep him in for another minute. I don't normally post during games, but I'll stand by this to my grave.

He just whiffed on the sack of Kessler.
He's a good kid but enough is enough.

I like Schmidt but looks horrible out there. Not sure how they watch game tape and don't see it. He's just not athletic enough to play the position

I have to agree with you all. It is time to get him out of there. He is a serious liability that is only partly mitigated by Jaylon's greatness.

The biggest problem is having him out there with a cast against a team that never ran up the middle.

Once you win a job with Kelly, it's apparently very hard to lose it. I love Schmidt for his enthusiasm, but it's a little like watching the nerd in gym class.

He flat out was terrible. He sux.

I love the kid's heart and the passion he plays with but I agree that hes been really exposed out there the last few weeks. He missed multiple tackles today in some pretty big spots. I wonder if Kelly naming him one of the captains b4 the season has anything to do with him staying on the field. It could also be that the guys behind him just arent better but something needs to be fixed I'm sure about that. Go Irish!

why won't the reporters ask BK these questions ? The film does not lie. Also, BK is the worst red zone play caller I have ever seen.

How many teams do you watch besides ND?

You cannot stretch the field so play calling is limited. If your answer is we should just line up run it in. Then I know you are a clueless fan as well.

He definitely has been trending downwards the last couple of weeks. I do agree that he brings a lot to the defense cognitively, but I would like to see Morgan get some reps.

i doubt you will see him get benched until we lose again. you arent going to bench a SR captain mid season when you're in the playoff race. i know people will say its for the best and all that. but there are other things involved like continuity and leadership on the team as a whole to be considered. BK has become much more conservative over the years so i dont see him "making waves" unless its painfully obvious a change has to be made...see EG to MZ last year.

Schmidt may not be over the injury and clearly has lost a step. He cannot make the plays necessary and we all know the weak link meaning.
JS is not the only weak link. The DL overall is also weak.
The DL cannot keep linemen from getting to JS.
The secondary is woeful at times. their play is helter skelter; good and then disaster happens. They lack technique and discipline and maybe are not as talented as ND fans thought.

If ND had a better option, then he'd be playing. Does anyone on this board seriously think they know the players better then our coaching staff? It's just ludicrous they crap that's posted here. If NM was better than JS, then he'd be playing

Carmel with all due respect Bk is a very good HC. However, I have been consistant with my criticism of BK as a play caller but extremely critical of his game plan inside the 10 yard line line. I do watch a ton of football and really follow ND extensively. Yesterday ND had a chance to go up 28-10 and instead settled for a FG. It is not his fault at all that Hunter fumbled. That was also a bad break . The ball not only stayed in bounds but it went to in the end zone. I was like here we go again. Then the D gets a 3 and out and we are in business again but no because ND has a 1st and goal from the 4 and the best player I on the sideline for the 1st play.CJ Procise was not in and Kizer runs a read option. Too slow of play to develop and the threat of CJ does not exist . Was he hurt? Tired ? . How about a play action of some sort to a TE? Second down and they run the jet to Carlisile ??????? This guy is the worst offensive player on the team He tries to run outside the TE block and results in a holding ? I do not blame players for these two debacle plays When you have a procise and fuller on the field together find a way to score . Third down corner route to Jones ??? Why not put Fuller in the slot to run that ? He has no imagination inside the red zone and has great talent that bails him out . Procisie TD run was all him in the 4th. There is no lead blocker ever for this guy and he amazes me . IMO one of the best RBs ever at ND. I hope he returns next year.

1st half
focus on the inside LB play.

I have to revise my opinion on the DL; watching the replay over n over the DL was much better than I had thought.

All the bitching about Schmidt may be warranted, but James O should also be benched. Martini is clearly better.

both are not playing well. The 3-4 Defense might have been a better defense for this personel. Okowa had a nice 4th quarter but he was actually in coverage at times?!? He has been a major bust at DE. Rochelle is an AA , he is by far the best DL on the team. Day has been a warrior and true leader and the Tillery / Cage combo has been good. BUT that is it for the DL . Insane . IMO Grace/ Coney/ Martini Schmidt/ Morgan on the inside and Smith and Onuwalu/ Tranquill ( before injury) would have been the best defensive front.

Spot on Diehard - no one on this board is at practice - the coaches livelyhood is at stake - you think they'd be keeping a better player on the bench ? Joe S. will be fine. Plus he is a great leader.

so ^ I take it you do not intend to review the film? Don't let the information affect you evaluation.

I want you to point out the play that he made in this game where he made initial contact, broke up a play, stopped an advance at the LOS or shed his blocker to infuence a play.
I actually watched one play 4 times thinking he was involved(sack) but in actuality the QB ran into him then judt brushed him aside only to be taken down by another ND defender.
Otherwise He was taken out or over ran plays all night. Always arriving after the play was over.

I think Joe is playing hurt. He was never fast or quick and he seems to have lost a step.

Yeah, and you know more about the players then our coaches. Any idea how ridiculous that sounds?

I can think for myself.
Do you win championships at practice? Awards?
i give a rats ass what you think or what happens at practices; the same replies were posted when posters posted Weis's issues. Then those supporters turned on him at the end.

Watch the film and tell me what you think of the GAME data! not practice! ,Do they keep score at practice? the committee is not at practice.

Done, you guys let your thought be what you either want to believe or are told to believe.

pointless discussion.

I like JS but he is out of his depth against teams like USC, Clemson, etc.. even against Navy he was getting blown up, and often. Folks here talking about practice haven't played I assume or coached. I played and coached until 2014, and you have practice warriors, guys who seem to be unstoppable during the week but put them in a live game and they just don't perform. Then you have others who don't always practice well but are gamers in live play. I remember Lou saying Reggie Brooks couldn't make a block in practice or hit the right hole but once the game began he turned his brain on.

With the way JS is playing there is no reason not to give NM some more live reps. He is bigger, stronger and faster. Just like Farley, guy has a knack to make some special plays but turns around and whiffs on a tackle, give up a long pass. I'm sorry, but Max should start every game. Yes, Max is hyper aggressive and can draw flags for hits, but he is a much better athlete, hands down. I'm tired of media members having to ask BK why he is in the doghouse yet they never ask him about JS, Farley, JO, or even kevari. Kevari has played below what we expected, lots of penalties, though he had some nice plays last night.

I think it's clear the Offensive has talent at all levels and very good depth, the Defense is not on the same level, nor do they have nearly as much talent on the field. The defensive recruiting really needs to improve.

So you're saying that you know more about who should play and who shouldn't? Is that what I am to understand?

I don't know what you understand, this is a message board and opinions are expressed. If you're asking if I think I know JS better then the ND staff, then No, but I never claimed any such thing. I understand some here feel the need to use kid gloves on "their" players and criticism against ND is met with gnashing of teeth but this is life. If a kid doesn't perform to the level expected of a Captain for a program like ND'S then someone else should get a shot. Are you suggesting everyone that disagreed with BK over sticking with EG all season last year are fools, and don't know what their talking about?

IM

I was sitting 10 rows behind the usc bench last night and I'm telling you it's worse in person than on tv. He should not be playing. He was literally bouncing off of opponents.

Anyone who states, "We're not at practice" probably never played at a serious level in any sport. Anyone who has knows some kids are just gamers. Don't show squat during practice.
