How are we feeling about Ohio State game?

It's funny because ND would be what OSU is this year after such a good coaching job on part of ND and their staff if they weren't so lacking in talent.

GREAT defense all 3 levels, GREAT offense all 3 levels (top 3 in both), tier 1 roster with as much 5 & high 4 star talent as anybody else in the league, great coaching staff/coordinators, etc. etc.

OSU is what ND would be with a tier 1 talent laden roster this season AND NOBODY ELSE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO MAKE THIS OBVIOUS CONNECTION DESPITE IT HAPPENING OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGIAN THE LAST 15 YEARS MAKES ME FEEL LIKE THE GUY IN THE "GROUNDHOG DAY" MOVIE LOL

I don't think anybody out there believes ND isn't a playoff worthy team. I think there's fair criticism about the relative lack of talent between ND and yet another national title caliber team. And how the lack of talent caps NDs upside as a football program and makes it nearly impossible to beat a tier 1 team like OSU when they are firing on all cylinders.

There's also just a fair amount of frustration among ND fans who have been down this road before over and over again with little to nothing happening on part of the university to address the situation ESPECIALLY when all of the evidence points to THIS BEING THE BIGGEST ISSUE over the last 1.5 decades that has kept ND playing 2nd and 3rd fiddle to their P4 rivals at the top of college football.
Georgia Tier 1 ?

If we had Morrison, Mills, Traore, Botelho, Onye, Craig talent wouldn't be a talking point. Luckily we have crazy depth that has put us in the position we are in and we'll be competitive all game with osu

Georgia Tier 1 ?
Georgia is a team that Brian Kelly would struggle mightily versus in the past: a tier 1 talent team, that has been good (not great) but then looks like the 1992 dallas cowboys when they played vs ND. This year ND beat that team and deserves credit for that because that was definitely a milestone win that hadn't happened in a long time (my opinions have evolved on the game since it happened).

ND is clearly playing at another level they never attained under Brian Kelly which is why im on the marcus freeman bandwagon as hard as anybody else in the fan base. We got our coach (we got our driver) now we got to supply this man with the best car (the best 85 man roster) in the league. This is the top priority but ND just refuses to see it or wnt to address it. They'll take another 10-15th ranked roster lacking any top end talent into 2025 only further perpetuating the problem another year down the road.

I just want the university to do something about it. Ive been saying the same shit for almost 15 years. If I can see it, surely someone else can?

How can you make the absurd comment that there’s a lack of talent in Notre Dame just beat Indiana, Georgia and Penn State and there is now playing in the finals of the national championship

When you look at the number of Notre Dame players in the NFL it destroys your argument about a lack of talent

But you can't see it. The roster is clearly loaded with talent and way better than a 10 to 15 roster. You simply can't evaluate talent or just ignorant to the point.

247 is only a data point. It's not fact based. It's a tool to give a glimpse at a teams talent level. But even you know they are 9th overall there and 5th in per player average yet you continue to use the 10-15 just to try and make your point and make you seem right from being wrong in our last recruiting rankings and transfer pickups. So why wouldn't you say 5-10 in terms of talent?

And when you say someone like Jer Love isn't a top end talent you lose all credibility

Bro dont you see it? Jeremiyah Love isn't enough. Audric Estime wasn't enough. These guys need help carrying the load. We need a jerimiyah love at QB and maybe even 1 at WR while we're at it ALL on the same team. ND has 1 of these guys, the competition has them all over their roster on both sides of the ball.

No. You said lacking ANY top end talent....I just used him as one example because you said ANY

Morrison Moore Love KVA Young Jagusah are all top end talents that come to mind immediately

OSU doesn't have top end talent at QB

I’d agree, but I have a bigger concern

If we lose, and especially if we lose by wide margin, there will be those who will denigrate Notre Dame football, by saying that we can’t win the big one, and that Notre Dame wasn’t deserving of being in the playoffs.

I haven’t heard anyone say that about Oregon, who got blown out by Ohio State.
No one has denigrated Oregon’s football program. No one has said that they were not deserving of being in the playoffs. No one has said that they can’t win the big one.

That position totally ignores Notre Dame‘s body of work during the regular season, along with the playoff wins where Notre Dame beat three ranked opponents in Indiana, Georgia and Penn State.

But, that’s what the haters will do

Before the Georgia game, Georgia was an SEC powerhouse who beat Texas twice
After Notre Dame beat Georgia, suddenly all the excuses came out about how Georgia wasn’t the same old Georgia.

A win would be monumental, but a loss will come with some additional baggage

Go Irish ! ☘️

Actually many do say Oregon can't win the big one. I read it occasionally in the media. But who cares?

ND has more than proved itself this season against the jealous. As they say, success is the best revenge.

The ultimate would be winning on Monday. It would be glorious. But sure, the icing in the cake will be some delicious spite for the ND haters.

;)

ND has some top talent and some depth...and a hell of a lot of team chemistry. Thanks to great coaching. Iced by MF being a great persona, for whom players will give it all.

Chase doesn't have this in any of the models he quotes but doesn't always seem to know in detail. I've suggested a review in statistics around: FACTOR ANALYSIS.

;)

Anything can happen over a single 4 quarter game. ND can go out there and demolish OSU in this game for a number of reasons.

I fear people are keying in on this ONE/SOLE game to feel vindicated about whatever evaluation methodology they are using, but this is only 1 game (1 piece of evidence that still needs to be incorporated with the rest of the evidence) The results of this game dont really change where these programs are at big picture in the hierarchy of college football all that much.

That still doesnt throw out the last several seasons of data that still need to be incorporated into the evaluation methodology of where these programs stands in college football.

I keep warning you about statistical methodology. Obviously they can correlate to certain outcomes, sometimes offering strong explanatory factors...obviously they might just be nominal correlations, rather than the holy grail of causality.

If ND wins, it is #1. For a season. Period.

As to hierarchy in college football, ND is among the best again. You can run all the statistics you want, but winning is winning. Besides, this specific discussion...hierarchy...is nebulous and often produces noise.

Hell, your obsession over this is noise. Root for ND to win...and enjoy it. That's my wish for you, as I don't mind your posts...but it seems you deny yourself some fan indulgence in the Fighting Irish.

You are a fan of Notre Dame? Right?

;)

I was afraid before every game. I'm a ND fan and it has been a long time since the BC loss in '93 - and a lot of disappointments. But, I attended the last two National Championship games: Cotton and Fiesta, and, although we were the better team talent wise in both of those games, something about this team feels special. Have to say, USC was the most nervous I've been.

Destiny.

Outside of a possible fully healthy BenMo none of these other guys are on the level of Jeremiyah Love, or any of the big time stars OSU has on their roster (Henderson, Egbuka, Smith, Tuimoloau, Downs, etc.). OSUs 3rd WR is better than any WR on NDs roster lol

I think the loss to Michigan lit a fire under the Buckeyes' collective asses, just as our loss to NIU was a hard slap in the face. They have been playing lights out in the playoffs. Tennessee was supposed to have a good defense and OSU walloped them. Oregon was an offensive juggernaut and it was 34-0 late in the second quarter.

I see this game being very easily a double-digit OSU win, or it might end up something like 20-17, with OSU having a much better chance of winning than us..

Of course, I hope I'm completely wrong, but I just think they have too many great athletes going up against our battered defense and limited offense. I would like our chances in a slugfest if we had half our injured guys back.

Yeah adding at least 4 NFL talents is a big thing no matter how you want to spin it LOL.

Love Moore KVA Jagusah Morrison Traore etc are all that level

The top 10% of players on OSUs roster are first round nfl draft prospects (ND maybe has 1 or 2 guys total on that level on their entire 85 man roster)

These rosters aren't on the same planet.

OSUs roster has the better players by far no matter if healthy/unhealthy or any other way you want to break it down: OSU has the more rare prospects, the more productive players in season, the players with better NFL pro potential, etc. etc. etc. its not comparable. Turn off Driskell, you are regurgitating his lame points on this issue and coming off as a fool.

1 or 2 🤣🤣🤣

You're so clueless and so far behind on how good this roster is

What are we collecting Pokemon now?

I really cannot believe how much time/effort/aggravation you all waste on each other.
Rare prospects = 5 star, high 4 star (top 5-10 guys/ prospects at their position)

OSU has a 3 to 1 ratio of players of this quality over Notre Dame.

The fact that anybody would argue that ND is on the level of talent of OSU is mind boggling to me. And there are people in this fan base that will argue the point with a straight face despite all of the evidence to the contrary its funny and quite pathetic at the same time lol

No one said the talent level was the same. But it's way closer than you are making it out to be. You only look at recruiting rankings and disregard what you are seeing on the field

Recruiting rankings are telling you for example that Love and Moore aren't elite prospects. So you are holding that view. Well you are incorrect. You have to be able to adjust. You are incapable of nuance. Even F+ adjust throughout the year. You have to be able to use multiple tools

Other than to denigrate Notre Dsme.

Its not to denigrate. Its to call out reality so that it changes for the better.

The fan base wants to cover their ears/eyes on this issue and scream "la la la la" as to not want to hear it/as to pretend that it doesn't exist.

But the only way to fix the issue is to acknowledge its existence and to demand a better product.

Who is ranked higher in college team talent, Georgia or Ohio State?

How many top 15 teams did we play in the college team talent and what is our record in those games?

Where do we rank in terms of players in the NFL season and in the Playoffs ?

ND has lesser talented players coached up to a high level and maximizing every bit of their potential, this doesn't lessen the lack of talent issue though. Because what inevitably happens in college football is that you run into a team in the playoff/national title game that also has their players coached up/maximized, but with far more raw upside as a result of the rarity/quality of prospects they've secured (Alabama '12, Clemson '18, Alabama '20, OSU '24) and then you're just out classed as a program and have way too little of a chance to actually win/compete in a head to head game.

Did you take a survey?

“Demand a better product”
They’re in the finals for the national championship you tool

Here’s a question for you, if they win the national championship how much better would you like the product to be?

You’re a schmuck and no fan of Notre Dame

No chance. We won't finish the year below 3
If ND gets completely draxed in this game vs OSU they may slip out of the top 5 in F+

F+ hasn't updated after the PSU game, but I think after the results of that PSU vs ND game, the system will see both of these teams identically, and PSU is ranked 6th in F+ right now.

F+ is 10 for 10 in the playoffs. They've accurately had the team that won the game rated above the team that lost every week during the playoffs (before the game took place)

F+ has OSU rated WAY ABOVE ND in 2024 as well.

Most people have predicted 9 or 10 of these games right. 9 of the Vegas favorites have won these games. It hasn't been that hard to predict

When you have Ole Miss ranked 2nd in your ranking, that just makes your rating a joke and so it's irrelevant now

It's a really bad rating system
