Even if Notre Dame wins out

Now that USC week is getting close, everyone's all scared of USC now. A couple weeks ago they were contemptuous.

I'm getting less worried, just 'cause of how frickin' good we're playing.
Some of us have been concerned since last year. They did beat LSU and every game they lost was a very tight game. @USC. I appreciate what ND has done this season, but they caught some breaks with Navy choking and GT’s QB being out. Louisville was a weird game too. Don’t get me wrong, ND deserved to win every game they’ve won.

I won’t be shocked to see a 14 point USC win although I predict a 14-21 point ND win.

USC could definitely beat us, but the way we are playing and they are playing we should win by 2 touchdowns. We'd probably win 4 of 5 right now.

I agree, USC in LA is always dangerous

USC has a new starting QB now, so we don't get Miller Moss, who I thought was okay, but definitely ended up being a step down from old boy. I was thinking he could be a step up, and the perfect system guy for LR. But it didn't quite work out that way. So you gotta study up on Jayden Maiava. Who I guess was a bit of a star last season before transferring in. So that's a major change-up in the scenario.

Obviously it's going to be a huge game with the season on the line. And obviously they could beat us with ease, if all the cylinders are firing, not that that's real likely. It's probably a good thing them having a QB switch. MM wasn't even doing all that bad, but I guess when your'e 4-5 you gotta do something. I think Maiava's a pretty good runner, and just pretty good overall, so we'll see what he does next week.

if they're playing for bowl eligibility that could be a factor too. So I hope they win the next two. I think it's Nebraska and UCLA.

I tend to think the QB switch up favors ND but we’ll see. It feels like a scapegoat situation. “We woulda won more if Maiava was starting”.

The biggest travesty in all of this is going to be the ACC and BIG12 champions will each get seeded ahead of ND and gifted a bye.
It's pretty simple, really. The conferences have more power than go-it-alone ND.

SC is going to be tough. It usually is especially in LA. With that said , I agree the Irish are starting to really gel. The only concern is on the offensive side. They have had some good drives but also some not so good. The weapons on offense are there. I would love to see more consistency. Hopefully they continue to improve and of course stay healthy

I don’t disagree; however, Penn State isn’t average either. Good football team that belongs in the playoff. Are they top 6? No. 7-12? I’d argue yes.

QB is improved, TE is outstanding, good defensively.
I would rank them 11-15 as well

...."substantive talk".....who is saying that ?....cite your sources.... and voices in your head do not count....
ESPN and other sports shows.

Which teams make the playoff is not an uncommon topic for discussion as the season matures, but you wouldn’t know that.

You said it all. Let's see. Hopefully the OL, RL, and Denbrock gel and are good enough. It remains a burden of proof, even if they've been overall evolving and improving.

For me, it seems the ceiling is determined by RL throwing longer...can that part of his game actually be improved enough?

So you don’t think there’s any debate about a 10-2 Georgia or Alabama leapfrogging a 1 loss (NIU) Notre Dame

It gets complicated if all 3 teams win out big the rest of the way.

Unfortunately this is the recurring problem with the BAD loss to NIU, as it opens debate in this specific scenario.

But, even if this scenario plays out, fine, GA or AL might leapfrog ND...but I say 90%+ chance ND gets in by running the table big, one way or the other.

The SEC is a good conference. Credit is due. I watch enough and see pretty good football teams.

Most of all, I imagine if ND played on the SEC...multiple losses are possible given this Irish team.

Notre Dame is 10-2//9-3 playing a normal SEC schedule, IMO.

9-3 playing a Florida or Georgia schedule is playoff worthy, IMO.

USC's 3-1 at home, with the only loss in OT to Penn State. They're much tougher at home. This won't be a cakewalk.
2-7 Utah State, 5-4 (2-4 in conf) Rutgers, and 5-4 (3-3 in conf) are their wins. They blew out Utah State and a Rutgers, Wisky was ahead until end of 3rd Q

Utah State, Rutgers, Wisconsin.
The closest of those was a 17-point win over Wisconsin. So they took care of business in those games.

Contrast that with their 0-4 road record, including a loss to Maryland. So they're definitely better at home.

Anyone who knows the history of ND playing SC in the Coleseum knows wins and losses are irrelevant. Trust me SC will be ready. They have plenty of talent. Not to mention the revenge factor after last years loss at ND. The Irish need to handle business first. If they don’t , the SC game won’t matter as far as the playoff goes
