No not petty, just going by your own previous statement. Your earlier statement was SSI should never have started, so of course I assumed you meant 100% of it based on your statement.
Why not? I read a recent study that said that it would actually cost tax payers less to simply provide the equivalent of a small single bedroom apartment to someone that is homeless than it costs to clean up the mess they make on the street and jail/hospitalize them.
It also would help to keep them healthy/safe/sane, prevent their premature death, and better position them to rejoin as productive members of society. Especially if that person had the equivalent of 'medicare' and could get ongoing treatment for whatever mental or physical issues got him/her to that point in the first place.
But too many people who are sold on right wing/establishment propaganda think these are the very people (the homeless/the poor/etc.) who are taking all their money and preventing them from getting ahead in life.

Nobody ever talks about the damage that was done pissing and shitting on the money system our country has done.
We print money off when we feel like it making it more worthless every time the printer fires up.
We used to only print money based on the gold we had.
There was a time in Germany it was actually cheaper to just use a German mark to wall paper a house than the actual cost of wall paper. In other words the square inches that Mark covered was more than the same coverage that Mark could buy.
We actually aren't too far away from that today. The saving grace is all the imported Chinese garbage that has kept the cost down.
That's a two fold problem. It hurts American products from competing in both the job front and gross product sales front. Why? The cost of comparable product from USA is significantly more so sales by default drop.
Now why has that happened? The biggest reason why is the workers did it to themselves. Getting a cost of living raise for doing the same work performance in year 3 onward is totally absurd. See by year three in nearly everything we do the worker is going to be as efficient as possible. They don't work any better or more efficiently in year 10 than they did in year 5. Yet every year they want a raise. Who pays for that raise? It's not the raise fairy that takes care of it. Nope. It's the consumer. Let's take the auto industry. One car there might be 300 different employees involved in making one car from the PPG glass employee to the DuPont employee doing paint to the rubber employees for tires. We haven't even gotten to the mfg of said vehicle yet and it's employees.
Now think about this...all those people in that chain got a raise making that one vehicle...yet you...the purchaser only got one.
So what we have is a vehicle that costs 400% more..thats right...400% more than it did 40 years ago. Yet that job that paid 40k a year 40 years ago is now paying 60k. A 50% increase.
That's taking one product example but you can clearly see things don't keep up. It's really chasing your tail yet the tail keeps getting further and further away.
Also ask yourself this...the big one...
How much goods and services does a $100 dollar bill buy you present day compared to 10,20,30 years ago and so on.
When you see things like the Los Angeles clippers were just sold for 2+ Billion dollars...yes BILLION..then monet has become funny money. Literally..its play money now.

The corporate tax rate in Florida is a tiny 5.5%. Raising it by 40%(!!!) would make it a still low 7.7%. And keep in mind there is no state income tax for individuals in FL.
99% of the price of gold is speculative (not based on industrial demand). For those who complain that the "U.S. dollar's value is not based on anything REAL", the same is true wrt gold, silver, bitcoin, etc. It does not make sense for a government to base a national currency on something they have no control over.
And if you feel your USDs have no value now, please send me $1 million of that "play money". I will give you a beer in exchange.

Many years ago , when I was a young teacher with a growing family, I was hired by a Hugh Copper
Smelting company in Pert Amboy , NJ. I was a night time supervisor. That company provided jobs
For all of the town and surrounding towns. The complex was huge! Ovens as big as houses, flatbed
Trains carrying smelted copper down to waiting ships in the harbor, etc.
The workers were unionized and very well paid with great benefits.
My job was to be available, handle any minor problems, and contact the day time supervisor on anything else.
The day time supervisor would give me a list of things that the 4 to midnight shift had to complete.
I would give the list to the men under me and once they completed their work, they would head to
The locker room and play cards the rest of the night. Not a bad deal !
About twice a week a ship would be in the harbor and scheduled to sail once it was completely loaded.
It was very expensive to have that ship be delayed. So without failure, a few hours before quitting time
The foreman would come into my office, and tell me “ We can’t get the ship loaded on time. The men will
Need 4 more hours !”
I would then have to call the day Supervisor and tell him that the men need the extra time ( at time and a half pay plus the cost of a meal ) . Since the union workers had the company by the “ Short hairs “,
The men got what they wanted.
They would then get the ship loaded and out to sea in short order, and enjoy the next few hours
Playing cards.
My job with the copper co.lasted about two years, and when the company finally got tired of getting
Screwed, they closed the plant and moved it South America.
A real bad economic loss to that whole area of New Jersey !

I was in the American Textile Workers Union for four years for my summer job while at ND. That was more than enough to make me very suspect of unions. Some of the crap I saw was mind boggling, and the management was basically helpless to do anything about it. It was so hard to fire anyone in the union that it just wasn't worth the aggravation.
The minority of the party and the cause why a (R) house, senate and executive can't get anything through. Mainly my question is what does the (R) stand for today that most people identify? Small government no longer exists. Balanced budget no longer exists. It must be all social issues imo which are small potatoes when it comes to governing.

We know that illegal immigrants are a drain on US resources. EVERYONE in the US is a drain on US resources. But as I said, immigrants pay rent, and that contributes to paying property taxes for the property owner. They pay sales tax when they buy something and any additional taxes that may be tacked on to those purchases, like gasoline taxes. We know that some illegal immigrants pay income taxes and SSI. The IRS even has an estimate (There's that word again!) about the amount. However, the IRS can't be certain. There is no way to tell if a man or woman who submits a tax return that lists multiple jobs actually has all of those jobs, or if some are actually worked by a Dreamer sibling who looks a lot like them. And since the IRS only gets a W2 when you file, there is no way of telling if someone is using your info right now to work a job.
