Can we keep Wimbush?

I don't know the answer. Just pose the question. But if kizer continues on this pace then I don't see how he is not the starter. If you are wimbush the math you did when you decided on ND - Malik two years than me for three - no longer is true. Could be kizer for the next three.

We have all seen his skill. Elite on several levels.

Do we keep him and would you be surprised if he left.

I wouldn't be surprised if he left, which would suck. I'd like for it to work out so Zaire is #2, Book #3, redshirt Wimbush. It may be tough to convince him to stay in a program where he doesn't start until he's a fifth year, but that's assuming Kizer doesn't skip his fifth year or get injured.

Knowing that the QB carries the ball a decent amount in this offense, I hope he sticks around.

I don't think we keep him unless...

Actually I don't see it. Potentially the ace in the hole is having to sit out a year if he transfers. However what's really the difference if he redshirts. Unless he can convince Kizer to turn pro after next year. Then it would be his team for three years.

But no matter how amazing he is athletically....he is another sub 6'0 legit height QB. Just like Golson.

Kizer is a glaring example how nice it is having a QB be able to throw over people instead of through windows between lineman.

My guess is Kizer returns as starter. Zaire either moves to another position or transfers. Wimbush is #2 and stays. Even then it could be tough to keep Wimbush, as Kizer has 3 years Eligibility remaining, as does Wimbush. That means for Wimbush to ever start Kizer(barring poor play) has to get hurt or leave for the draft. It just really upset the balance and order of things when Zaire when down and Wimbush had to burn his redshirt year.

This is a silly thread. He isn't going anywhere, and all three qbs will be qbs at ND next year

Some of these high school stars want to play and not sit on the bench for most of their college years .

consider Kizer finishs this sesson BIG; then he has a very impressive '16. He might opt for he draft.
As Kelly pointed out, you need just 1 impressive year and a good combine. Wimbush will get his opportunity for his 'year'. And somewhere in there MZ will get his chance to show off also. These are good citizens of the team!

I hate these kinds of threads. some are acting like they know that football was the ONLY reason players attend a specific school. so much more to the dynamic. especially at notre dame where players coming in know academics is a pretty serious part of the puzzle. anyone think winbush may love the experience he is having at nd ? personally I can see a position change for zaire.

My guess is that it will be a challenge to keep all three kids

I have NO IDEA - NONE what is going thru the minds of the 3 kids so speculation is pure folly for this cub reporter .

If he wants to play at the next level sitting on the bench is not going to help him - Kizer needed PT to get it done - he would still be sitting if Golson and MZ were still available. Go Irish.

After everything that has happened with our QB position the past few years - Kiel leaving, Golsen's suspended year, Golsen transferring, Zaire getting hurt, you'd like to think we wouldn't have to ask this question at all.

Would love to see all three stay but past history leads me to think at least one will leave. I don't know how good Book is.

When Wimbush arrived he had 3 QB's in front of him on the depth chart. Now he only has one.

It might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I don't think anything that happened this year would nudge him toward leaving.

His fumble was the best thing that could have happened to him at the Pitt game. He can think about that while he watches and learns from the sidelines. Instead of how easy it was to take off and run 80 yards for a TD.

Wimbush should get (I know this is ND and it seems it is never this easy) some significant playing time this week and hopefully next week. I know ND will want some style points but if they have a big lead after the first or second series in the third quarter Wimbush will finish the game hopefully with a full package of plays to see if Wimbush and some of the second stringers can put up another couple of scores.

1Redrum,

I hope that you are correct ? Beating teams with inferior talent early and convincingly, enables a coach to reward the backups with
Meaningful playing time and brings a team closer together.
I am not in favor of a two QB system, but Kelly did have success doing that at Cinn. If I remember correctly ? I would just love to Wimbush get playing time, stay at ND, and eventually become the starter .

i hate replies like this. like you own the boards. its a question. i gave no opinion. its just creates an interesting conversation. so let me get this straight we cant use boards to express oppinions or ask questions where we dont have all the facts? if you think wimbush might stay cause he loves ND, then reply that. if you dont like posts like this - dont reply as it just makes it appear towards the top and therefore gets more exposure. so if you really hate these posts then you are doing a disservice by replying.

i happen to think that - he loves the experience - is an over-simplistic way of looking at it. kid came to ND for football first and foremost. he probably has goals of starting for more than a year at a major program, and having a shot at the nfl. IF he thinks the sitaution has changed and put that all at risk, if he is a serious football player, hed be silly to not consider. other schools have great academics and football and experience, and may allow him to play. if i went to ND to be a doctor, and suddenly someone told me, you cant do premed - id certainly be looking at other schools.

If he or either of the other two would transfer they would know there is competition at every school that has a decent team. Just ask Max Wittek (USC - Texas) or Cooper Bateman (Texas - Alabama) about that.

I would be shocked if any of them transfer, but then again I can't predict the future. Therefore I don't worry about it.

First, one never knows when an injury could occur. How many of us would've predicted Zaire get injured so early or Folston? Wimbush understands this I'm sure. Secondly, Wimbush needs time to understand the playbook. I do not believe he goes anywhere else. In 2 years, I feel he will be the next elite ND QB.It indeed will be interesting to watch competition between Zaire and Kizer as to how it plays out. I also believe Fuller,Procise and quite possibly JSmith all come back. Smith hinges on his place on draft board or his goals at ND. Russell will come back. Neither he or Luke are ready for NFL.

2016 is going to be a monster year for ND. Heck why not try and convince Stanley to come back for his 5th year, hahaha! But seriously try and envision how good we'd be if you added Folston to the offense. Kizer a year better, Alize a year better, Smythe coming back, Tranquil back, J Jones back, Tillery and Cage a year better should make up for Day leaving, Crawford should contribute. I'm hoping w/ all the talent there that the Oline can replace Stanley and Martin, I think early it could be rough, but late in the year we'll get things right. we'll see

If he didn't care about academics, he would have gone to Michigan. Really I could care less if he wants to leave. I don't think ND is going to have a problem recruiting QB's in the future. If Kizer was all about him and his future, do you think he would have stuck around?

True. Some often whine about ND'S WEAK D LINE. However , think about the front d with the likes of Jarron,Jerry,Daniel and others like Dew-Teadway,Mokwah,Hayes and maybe others. That's a very good front. Will we miss players like Day? Not a doubt, but as it's stated a lot- NEXT MAN IN AT ND!!! Hell yeah!!!!

your question was strictly related to football I believe. so you hate my reply. whoopee. my point was there is much more to the equation other than football, especially at a place like nd. kind of thin skinned no ?

I met his mom last weekend in Pittsburgh and while I certainly don't know what would happen I will say this is a great family that loves ND and will make great long term decisions - impressive ND people
