Sorry, not sorry, seen to many of these in the last 30 years. Don’t care the score. Can’t imagine this team beating Clemson or SC. 9-3 and a tier two bowl. Sigh. Call me when it’s “23”.

Offense was well....offensive. I will re-watch it later this weekend but I just did not see an identity at all. Tough game to start with as your first start since high school but we needed to do better. When I watch it again I will want to watch the offensive line to see if there were things we could have done to run more.

Why do we have such a hard time running? Vs good teams, seems like the running game is never a factor. I don’t remember any of our backs getting even a 6-7 yard gain tonight, outside of Tyree’s end-around.

Isn’t our OL loaded with talent and future NFL starters? Why can’t we run?

I'm a far cry from an expert, but I thought the offensive line looked like the standard ND offensive line of the last 20-plus years: slow and befuddled. They'll kick the ass of inferior opponents, but won't be able to do anything against teams like Alabama, Georgia, and Clemson.

This is the problem when you have an inexperienced head coach who is 100% reliant on Rees whose play calling isnt always optimal. Although Stroud made some lucky plays in the 4th quarter which turned the tide. I am glad we kept it close and did not sustain any serious injuries.

Rees didn’t call a good game but the game was lost on the line. NDs offensive line did not perform well. Still , they hung in there. Losing always sucks. It sucks losing this game. But they weren’t outclassed. You can build on this. The defense played well and just wore down. Really tough loss. Hopefully they get the win next week against Marshall.

Watch the game again. The center played a really bad game. He has to have better awareness. It all started right there. Allowed the 1 defensive tackle to live in the backfield. Defense was good. I like what I saw. Corners not playing 20 yards off the wr was a great sight to see.

We never attempted to establish a downfield threat … also our running plays are so slow developing they stuff the line

Frosh corners played well.. cam struggled early then played well

Lewis got picked on a little late but didn’t get “exposed”

Not as bad as predicted. Defense again played strong until very late in game. Offense in the second half played poorly. Few skill players on offense and no game breakers at receiver, running back. QB play so so. Offensive line play pathetic in second half. Poor offensive showing in second half exposed our defense and wore them down. I would be happy with 8 wins this year and ecstatic with 9 wins. Keep recruiting Marcus and we’ll get there.

They are slow developing because our offensive linemen move like refrigerators slide uphill. We can't establish a downfield threat in large part because we can't block athletes of the caliber of Ohio State. In the last 20-plus years, we've maybe been able to do it once,, against Clemson in 2020

We could have really used Patterson to replace Zeke in that game. He struggled mightily. I think Jpatt at center for this game would have made a big difference
I don’t want to be a negative little bitch, but I just don’t get Zeke back in the starting group. When is the last time he played well, in a game? 2020?

Corners were fine. DL didnt get the pressure they needed
After foskey and ademilola talked about how they’re the best

should have some tough love conversations this week

notice that nd second team dline started second half? Not sure if it was to send a message or planned, but didn’t work.

they weren't lucky, they were smart, and his receivers came back to the ball for him. he kept the play alive long enough to do something.

and hey, blitz both safeties on 3rd and 11, ad I will burn your ass. Stroud played really well, I thought, outside of that easy six he threw behind the receiver.

Yeah they said he improved a lot going back to center. But it didn't show

Stroud was running around quite a bit - he made some huge plays running for his life.

I don't see how you complain about a defense holding that team to 21, aside from a double safety blitz on 3rd and 11.

That’s a 4 point play call … game
Changing play call … can’t ever happen

I'm not complaining. You didn't read what I've been writing. Made an observation. Corners were fine. Dl wasnt good enough as they needed to be

Relax lol. It was a terrible call but every coach has some in every game. 21 points will be the lowest OSu scores all year.

Probably, but that can’t happen … there’s mistakes then there’s that play call … that was bvg

ND football will always be talentless

1 - 10 versus elite competition. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. But hey! Let's keep hoping tradition will save us...

Bingo. It was all awareness too. Just going to double when the stunt was easy to recognize, giving the dt a free run at the qb.

i thought they were pretty good, considering the talent on that O-Line. The offense let them down - you can't spend 20 minutes on defense in the 2nd half against that talent and expect to be ok at the end. They were gassed.

72 yards, 4 first downs, 4 drives, 4 punts in half #2. You give up 21 to that team, you should win.

That's the fewest points they've scored in a game since 2017. Think about that.

Yep...like all the big games...play better as a group.

HH gets an individual pro ready...kinda sorta...just not a poweful collective unit.

Who was the OSU line coach?
Notice nobody said much about him. Oohhh...but HH...Kirk and Chris raved about him.

And the rushing stats were...
OSU 35 for 172

Us... a typical big game performance....

30 attenpts for....

wait for it...

76 yards.

Hell one year he even had McGlinchey and Nelson on the left side yet the Hurricane defensive line made fools of that duo when we ran left. And we ran left a lot.

Oh well...
Nothing new in S.B. circa 2022

The defense was a big improvement over the defense Freeman ran last year, which gave up huge plays to everyone from Florida State to North Carolina.

Defense played very well. DL was supposed to be one of the best in the country. We couldn't get pressure on Stroud. Couldn't stop the run late. Foskey got manhandled by their tackles. Needed them to be better

Everyone was worried about the secondary but the secondary was the best unit on the defense

That’s what I’ve been saying for quite some time now. I believe that the o-line is the most critical unit of a team & they’ve not shown up for big games. We churn out NFL o-lineman but we hardly ever have dominating games from that unit as a group (something that you’d expect from a unit that has won the best o-line in the country awards). And all we really have to look at is our record against the very best teams we play. When we’ve gotten good o-line play in those games (‘12 Oklahoma,‘19 Georgia & ‘20 clemson come to mind as being the closest to good play from that unit), we’ve either won, or damn nearly should’ve won. W/ that said, the playcalling didn’t do them any favors last night. We threw 18 passes all night. They loaded the box and we didn’t make them pay w/ any screens or misdirections. We couldn’t protect so any downfield passing was gonna be a ? The one great play call was the fake swing to the rb seam route to baumann. That was a thing of beauty, wish we had more of those in our repertoire. We have a running qb & we didn’t get him on the corner at all. We couldn’t make any holes and Buchner was getting hurried most of the night. The o-line did not play well. We missed Patterson in a huge way. The d-line wasn’t that great either but they did their job to an extent. Damn it, this was ours for the taking. I don’t think this OSU team wins a title. I know it sounds sour grapes but I wasn’t overly impressed w/ stroud & we bottled Henderson up pretty well until the last drive or two. I think a lot of that had to w/ our defense but stroud missed some easy open throws. I’m sure that improves as he’s working w/ a new unit of wrs but he was not very sharp last night, at least not what I expected. Again, damn it, this game was ours. 🤬

I thought it was a pretty good first start for Buchner (in a very tough environment) and the game overall was a good one to build on for the Irish. We weren't expected to win the game. Anytime you start a first-time QB on the road in an environment like that, it's going to be a tough matchup.

I think we can still become a very good team this year.
