8-0 Notre Dame already has played a full Big 10 schedule and surpassed any kind of Pac-12 schedule as it enters first-semester final exams week from Nov. 16-20 before the Nov. 21 bye and the Nov. 27 game at North Carolina.

Recruiting The Gold Standard: Where Notre Dame Stands With Its 2021 Targets

Well over 2k words of Notre Dame football scoop. The run down the stretch in the 2021 class will be fun.

Manziel vs Book

No I'm not trolling, coming from one of Book's biggest critic he has won me over the last two weeks. He's starting to remind me of Johnny football. Personally, I think Book can read defenses much much better but making plays outside of the pocket and running for first downs are eerily similar. Hopefully Book will keep making throws in the pocket even under duress.

November 16: This Day In Notre Dame History

The Irish are 8-5-1, with a 52-20 throttling last year of a Navy team that finished 11-2 and in the top 25:

Bronze Medal, 1974: A year after allowing a school record 209 yards to freshman phenom Tony Dorsett, reigning national champion and No. 5 Notre Dame limits Dorsett to 61 yards on 19 carries, plus a lost fumble while trying to dive into the end zone for a touchdown. Still, the Irish need a late drive and TD by Wayne "The Train" Bullock with 2:49 left in the game to pull out a 14-10 win over the No. 17 Panthers to improve to 8-1 and keep title hopes alive.

Silver Medal, 1929: In front of 112,912 ((99,351 paid attendance) at Chicago's Soldier Field, unbeaten Notre Dame holds on for a 13-12 victory over USC when after a Trojans' kickoff return for a touchdown, they miss the extra point to keep the Irish ahead by one. It was the fourth meeting ever between the two schools, and the third time the Irish won by one point, after having lost at USC 27-14 the year prior.

Gold Medal, 1957: Still considered the greatest upset victory in Notre Dame history, the three-touchdown underdog Fighting Irish enter Oklahoma with the two-time reigning national champs having won an NCAA record 47 straight games, among them a 40-0 win at Notre Dame the previous year (the worst loss to this day at home by the Irish). It also is the day of the 50th anniversary of Oklahoma's statehood, and the 4-2 Irish are coming off back-to-back losses, most recently 34-6 to Michigan State.
But on this day, the shocker occurs with a 7-0 triumph. On fourth-and-goal, Dick Lynch scores from four yards on a pitchout with only 3:50 remaining to end an 80-yard drive in 20 plays. Bob Williams intercepts an Oklahoma pass into the end zone to clinch it.

Football Ian Book Earns Some Weekly Awards

Book was named a Manning Star of the Week and named to the Davey O'Brien Award Great 8 List for last weekend. Here's the release from ND on the Manning Star of the Week award:

NOTRE DAME, Indiana -- Adding to his honors following the 45-31 win over ACC rival Boston College Saturday, graduate student quarterback Ian Book was named a Manning Award Star of the Week for his performance.

Fans can vote for Book to be named the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week by visiting https://bit.ly/VoteIanWeek11 and “liking” Book’s photo. Voting closes Thursday at Noon ET.

It marks the third time in Book’s career that he has been named a Manning Star of the Week, and first time this season. The honor comes on the same day Book was named to the Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 List for Week 11 and recognized as honorable mention for the CFPA National Performer of the Week.

In Notre Dame’s eighth-consecutive win of 2020, and 14th-consecutive overall (the longest streak in the FBS), Book went 20-of-27 for 283 yards and three touchdowns, with zero interceptions and zero sacks for a 198.8 QB rating. He also added 10 rushes for 85 yards and a touchdown.

With a 74.1 completion percentage, Book led all ACC quarterbacks on the weekend. Book was also the only ACC quarterback not to take a sack this weekend (among eligible QBs), and his 10.48 yards/attempt were the second-most in the ACC for the week.

Book has now totaled 195-consecutive attempts without an interception, which is the third-longest active streak in college football, and the longest streak among all Power 5 players. It ranks second only to Brady Quinn’s 226 in 2006 (Michigan State to Army) in Notre Dame records.

Book was the only ACC quarterback on the weekend to throw three touchdowns and zero interceptions, while also avoiding any sacks. Ranking tied for eighth nationally in touchdown passes on the weekend, of the seven quarterbacks who threw more, three of them threw interceptions, and only one of those seven was not sacked. Book’s 198.8 passer rating Saturday ranked sixth on the weekend among all FBS quarterbacks.

Accounting for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing), Book’s game marked the first time a Notre Dame player has been responsible for four or more touchdowns in a single game since he did it at Stanford in 2019. Book has led the Irish to score 45 or more points in two-consecutive games for the first time since 1996 (vs. Pitt 60-6, vs. Rutgers 62-0).

Your first CFP rankings?

Given what we have seen so far what would be your CFP top 6?
Criteria:
1. Record/games played
2. notable wins (ranked opponent/quality opponent)
3. The notorious Eye Test

For me I would go with...
1. Bama (Undefeated, looks good and has quality wins over UGA and TAMU)
2. ND (8-0, looks good, quality wins over Clemson and BC)
3. OSU (Undefeated, ain’t played nobody...while looking good doing it. May have a victory over IU this weekend)
4. Clemson ( I thought about other teams here but Clemson hammered Miami and lost in double OT to ND)
5. TAMU ( beat Florida, got creamed by Bama, not much else but H2H matters)
6. UF ( has blowout wins(UGA) behind an outstanding O but lost close to TAMU)

Football Brian Kelly Subtly Begins Playoff Campaign

Uneven scheduling in The Year of COVID-19 needs to be taken into account by the College Football Playoff Committee next Month, and the Irish head coach made note of it following the 45-31 win at Boston College by his No. 2-ranked Fighting Irish.

Football Tommy Kraemer, Shaun Crawford Named ACC OL And DB Of The Week

Kraemer is now the fourth different offensive linemen for the Irish to earn this award in seven ACC games, while Crawford is the first representative from the defensive backfield.

OFFENSIVE LINE — Tommy Kraemer, Notre Dame Gr., RG, Cincinnati, Ohio
Led a Notre Dame offensive line that helped the second-ranked Fighting Irish pile up 561 total yards (278 rushing with three touchdowns, 283 passing with three touchdowns and zero sacks) in Saturday’s 45-31 win at Boston College• Total yardage was the most this season for Notre Dame and the most for the Irish in a road game since 584 yards against Navy in 2018 • The Irish have scored 45 or more points in two-consecutive games for the first time since 1996 and continue to lead the ACC in time of possession (more than 34 minutes per game) and third-down conversions (54.1 percent).

DEFENSIVE BACK – Shaun Crawford, Notre Dame, Gr., S, Lakewood, Ohio
Led No. 2 Notre Dame with nine tackles in Saturday’s 45-31 road win at Boston College, including a quarterback sack on the Eagles’ opening drive • Now has 3.5 sacks for the season • Nine tackles versus BC were his most ever in a collegiate game, and his 1.5 tackles for loss were also a career high.

Question for Lou: Big East Football Agreement

Lou - I'm looking back at the ND football schedule over the last 20 years, and I'm having a bit of a challenge recalling the details of the agreement that ND had with the Big East regarding football scheduling.

I know our current ACC agreement is 4-5 games per year, we face every ACC school at least once every 3 years and we participate in the ACC bowl system (except the Orange bowl).

I seem to recall the Big East deal being 2-3 games with a minor bowl component - can you help me here?
