Basketball WBB: 2 seed Notre Dame starts its NCAA dance at home against Kent State

Story from @Eric Hansen on Notre Dame women's basketball's draw for the NCAA Tournament.

Recruiting Notre Dame offers younger brother of WR Jordan Faison

We have a long running thread of Pot of Gold Day offers in the 2026 class, but I wanted to pull this one out separately. It's pretty cool that not only has Notre Dame decided to offer Dylan Faison, a 2026 wide receiver and younger brother of ND WR Jordan Faison, but the Irish are his first football offer.

WR DYLAN FAISON

Notre Dame football didn’t offer Jordan Faison a scholarship until he played his first game for the Irish last season against Louisville. The Irish are getting ahead of the curve for Faison’s younger brother, Dylan. The sophomore at Boca Raton (Fla.) Saint Andrews School reported a Notre Dame offer Sunday. It’s the first football scholarship offer for Dylan Faison, who also plays lacrosse like his brother.

Dylan Faison caught 22 passes for 528 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games last season.

Recruiting Tracking Notre Dame’s Pot of Gold offers

Notre Dame football is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with another Pot of Gold Day and the unofficial launch of turning more attention to the 2026 class. The Irish are expected to connect with close to 100 2026 recruits today to extend offers and several more to reaffirm previous offers expressed to 2026 targets.

We’ll use this thread to track all of the offers reported by recruits on social media.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

P.S. Kudos to @Charleston Bowles for helping write these up.

Recruiting 2026 CB target schedules Notre Dame visit

Even though Notre Dame previously offered four-star cornerback Elbert Hill last June, the Irish coaching staff made sure to make contact with him as part of the 2026 class Pot of Gold Day. Hill, a sophomore at Akron (Ohio) Hoban, has now scheduled a visit to Notre Dame for next Saturday. He also plans to visit Ohio State on Tuesday, Penn State on April 4 and Wisconsin on April 6.

Hill, who received his Notre Dame offer following a camp performance, is ranked by Rivals as the No. 65 overall prospect in the 2026 class.

BAS: Florida State rallies Sunday to complete three-game sweep of Irish

David Cantu scored from third base on Notre Dame’s second error of the sixth inning, and unbeaten Florida State rallied to complete a three-game sweep of the visiting Irish with a 4-3 victory Sunday in ACC baseball action.

The unranked Seminoles (18-0, 3-0 ACC), under former Irish head coach Link Jarrett, figure to crack the Top 25 Monday after taking three from the Irish and beating eighth-ranked Florida, 12-8, in a weeknight game on the road.

There were some positives for Notre Dame (11-8, 0-6), including a strong starting pitching performance from Jack Radel, but not enough to salvage a game from Florida State. The freshman right-hander went a career-high four innings, giving up five hits and one earned run. He walked none and struck out one, and left the game with a 3-1 lead.

Florida State tied the game in the bottom of the fifth off reliever Rickey Reeth (0-2) on a two-run homer from Jaime Ferrer. The Seminoles took advantage of the Irish errors in the sixth to pull ahead for good.

Lefty Carson Dorsey made it stand up, pitching the final 2 ⅓ innings for the Seminoles, allowing two hits and no runs, and earning the save.

The Irish runs came on solo home runs from Brady Gumpf and Joey Spence, and an RBI double from Esteban Moreno.

Notre Dame returns home for a non-conference matchup Tuesday (4:30 p.m. EDT) against Western Michigan (9-9).

BAS: Notre Dame falls 4-2 at No. 19 Florida State on Saturday

After being swept in its ACC opening series at Virginia Tech last weekend, Notre Dame baseball is in danger of being swept by another conference opponent after losing 4-2 at No. 19 Florida State on Saturday. The Seminoles also defeated the Irish 8-4 on Friday.

Florida State (17-0) got things going in the first inning with a 2-0 lead when Seminoles junior outfielder Jamie Ferrer hit a two-run home run off of senior right-handed pitcher Matt Bedford. Bedford allowed three hits in four innings pitched.

The Seminoles would go on to score twice again in the fifth inning on a single and sacrifice fly.

Notre Dame (11-7) scored in the third and eighth innings. Senior outfielder T.J. Williams homered to left field in the top of the eighth inning. FSU struck out graduate student outfielder David Glancy and senior infielder Connor Hincks immediately following Williams' home run.

Williams and Glancy were two of five Notre Dame players to register a hit against the Seminoles. Senior outfielder Brady Gumpf, freshman catcher Carson Tinney and grad student infielder Simon Baumgardt also recorded hits. Tinney hit a double in the third inning while Baumgardt doubled to right field in the fourth inning.

Bedford struck out four batters while grad student right-handed pitcher Bennett Flynn, who pitched three innings, also struck out four batters.

Notre Dame ends its series at Florida State on Sunday with a matchup set to begin at 1 p.m. EST. It will be televised on ACC Network Extra.

BAS: Link Jarrett's FSU Seminoles open series over ND with 8-4 win

The Notre Dame baseball team’s early part of the ACC schedule has taken on a repetitive theme.

Shaky starting pitching.

The latest rerun played out Friday night against former ND head coach Link Jarrett and his Florida State Seminoles, with unbeaten FSU taking an early 6-1 lead and cruising to an 8-4 victory at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

Jarrett, who took the Irish to the College World Series in 2022, is in his second season back at his alma mater and has the Seminoles sitting at 16-0 after a 12-8 non-conference win over eighth-ranked Florida on Tuesday and a victory in the first game of a three-game series this weekend with the Irish.

In FSU’s rich school history, only the 2007 Seminoles began its season with a longer win streak (23) to start the season. It was Florida State’s conference opener.

On Friday night, they knocked Irish starter Tobey McDonough out of the game before he could record an out in the bottom of the second inning. He was charged with six earned runs on six hits, with two walks, a hit batsman and one strikeout.

The Irish (11-6, 0-4 ACC) entered the game with a 6.73 team ERA, 195th nationally out of 295 Division I teams.

Notre Dame’s bullpen, though, was impressive, with four pitchers combining for just two earned runs yielded over eight innings of work.

UCF transfer Cam Leiter (4-0) got the win for FSU, giving up four earned runs on six hits over 6 ⅔ innings. The nephew of former Major League pitchers Al and Mark Leiter and cousin of Chicago Cubs hurler Mark Leiter Jr. walked two and struck out 10.

First baseman Connor Hincks tripled and homered in four at-bats, driving in two runs and scoring two. Right fielder Brady Gumpf also went 2-fo-4, and he had an RBI. Third baseman Simon Baumgardt drove in the other Irish run.

The two teams are set to meet in game 2 on Saturday at 3 p.m. (EDT).

Basketball WBB: A few notes on upcoming story I'm doing on Notre Dame recruit Kate Koval

Just got off the phone with Notre Dame recruit Kate Koval, a 6-5 center from Ukraine who's a senior a Long Island (N.Y.) Lutheran High — the No. 1 girls basketball team in the nation per MaxPreps. Koval is the No. 1 center or forward in the 2024 class per ESPNW and No. 5 player overall. For comparison's sake, Hannah Hidalgo was the No. 5 player in the 2023 ESPNW class rankings.

A few notes without giving everything away ... incredible story when you throw in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war and what's happening with her family and friends. And how she processes and deals with it.

She'll be enrolling in June at Notre Dame and plans to skip any national team duties in order to fully focus on contributing to the Irish as a freshman.

LuHi finished the regular season at 21-1. They played a national schedule. ... even international with a tournament in The Bahamas. They played 13 games before playing their first home games. ... She averaged 15.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.1 blocks on a team with two other McDonald's All-Americans in the senior class and likely others in the lower classes. ... She knows how to share the ball and facilitate to the players around here, so that's an adjustment she won't have trouble with in college.

Kate has the McDonald's All-American Game April 2 in Houston and then LuHi plays in the Chipotle National Tournament April 4-6 in Brownsburg, Ind., against some of the top girls BB teams in the nation.

Kate's team played against Hannah Hidalgo's last season and both her and Koval's coach feel much better about Hannah scoring so much against them now that they see her doing it to college teams.

Kate got to see ND only once in person this season, when they played at NJIT in November. She watches them on TV a lot and envisions how she can help next season. ... I'll save the rest for the story.

Recruiting Defensive positions ND needs to address the most on Pot of Gold Day

Inside ND Sports chose two defensive positions that make the most sense for Notre Dame to focus increased attention on when it sends out offers on Pot of Gold Day.
