Recruiting Why Notre Dame Pot of Gold Day offer meant a lot to 2026 DT Gabriel Hill

2026 defensive tackle Gabriel Hill was one of many recruits to land an offer from Notre Dame football on Sunday during Pot of Gold Day. Hill, a 6-foot-2, 250-pound defender out of Naperville (Ill.) North, was listed by Rivals national recruiting analyst @Adam Gorney on his Recruiting Rumor Mill earlier today. Gorney said the Irish could be the early team to beat in Hill's recruitment.

Hill reports other offers from Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State and Kent State. He is not yet rated or ranked by Rivals.

As a sophomore, Hill registered 34 tackles (27 solo) including 14 for loss. He also had six sacks, eight pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

Inside ND Sports had the chance to speak with Hill on Wednesday evening to learn more about him, his play style, what the Irish offer meant to him and more.

On his opportunity to play at Notre Dame:

"Notre Dame was a huge offer to receive ... because of their high performance [as a] program and the reputation it has," Hill said. "Being a high priority is just a special feeling having some of the best former athletes [and] now coaches believe in you ... it's a confidence and a blessing that you really can’t describe."

On what he brings to the field:

"I think I make big plays with my speed that change the game and swing the momentum." I think my ability to get off blocks and control my matchup makes me a danger to the run game. When people watch me play, they see an explosive player that makes big plays. I didn’t play the most snaps in the world but I was able to make them count and people noticed. That was just sophomore year so people can expect me to become one of the most explosive players they’ve seen."

On future plans and relationship with Notre Dame:

"Notre Dame is one of the camps marked this summer. The love they’ve shown to me makes me want to come out there to the summer camp and get better ...see what it's really like to be with [defensive line] coach [Al] Washington in his element."

"Having them taking a swing on a sophomore ... it means a lot to me. It shows they believe in me and I think it would be wrong to not be interested back."

Hill plans to visit Notre Dame on Saturday. Will have a full story out on Thursday.

Football Notebook: Notre Dame's offensive line competitions are just getting started

At this time last year, Andrew Kristofic and Michael Carmody were lining up as Notre Dame's starting offensive guards. So yes, there's plenty of time for changes and development.

"A great room helps each other get better," said Notre Dame OL coach Joe Rudolph. "That’s what I appreciate about a group of guys. So that'll always be valued, how they perform, how they continue to grow.”

Football Notebook: After BC interview, Al Washington works to build more depth at ND

My notebook from today's conversation with Al Washington: His thoughts on being interviewed for the Boston College head coaching role, building depth on Notre Dame's defensive line and who's up next in the Irish front four.

BAS: Notre Dame's bats erase five-run deficit in 16-11 win over Western Michigan

Notre Dame baseball needed another prolific day at the plate to secure a home win over Western Michigan on a chilly Tuesday in South Bend.

After trailing by five runs in the third and fourth innings, Notre Dame recovered for a 16-11 victory.

The Irish (12-8) managed to cut a 9-4 deficit after two-and-a-half innings to 10-9 after five. Notre Dame took its first lead with a five-run sixth inning.

Senior center fielder T.J. Williams, Notre Dame's leadoff hitter, finish 4-for-4 from the plate with a pair of RBIs, a pair of runs scored and a pair of stolen bases. Designated hitter David Glancy, batting in the No. 2 spot, led the Irish with three RBIs. Junior shortstop Jack Penney and sophomore second baseman Estevan Moreno both registered two RBIs.

Moreno scored threee times and hit 3-4 with one double. Penney scored a pair of runs, hit 2-3 and walked twice.

Radek Birkholz (3-0) picked up the win by pitching two scoreless and hitless innings in the fifth and sixth. Birkholz worked around three walks with three strikeouts.

The first three Notre Dame pitchers — starter Hagan Ward and relievers Will Jacobsen and Rory Fox — each allowed at least three runs. Ward recorded just one out, a strikeout of the second hitter of the game, but left the game with a walk, balk and wild pitch before allowing an RBI double and an RBI single. Jacobsen gave up a two-run homer immediately after replacing Ward in the first inning.

The Irish will try to get their first ACC win of the season after six tries when they host Miami (12-8, 4-2 ACC) for a three-game series starting Friday.

BOX SCORE: Notre Dame 16, Western Michigan 11

Football Observations from ND's second spring practice

Notre Dame football made its return from spring break Wednesday for its second practice of spring football and first in two weeks.

The current team was joined by some former players in town for tomorrow’s Pro Day on campus. Joe Alt, Blake Fisher, Sam Hartman, Michael Vinson and Spencer Shrader were among those spotted at practice Wednesday morning.

Other onlookers included defensive lineman Gabriel Rubio, who is away from the team for the semester, and incoming graduate transfers Rod Heard II (Northwestern DB) and Beaux Collins (Clemson WR). The latter two are still finishing up their degrees while hanging around Notre Dame.

The players out for the spring remained sidelined: TE Mitchell Evans (knee), TE Kevin Bauman (knee), DE Aiden Gobaria, DT Armel Mukam (shoulder) and DE Loghan Thomas (shoulder).

CB Chance Tucker, who wasn’t spotted at the first practice, returned to the practice field. NB Jordan Clark was active during the first five periods available for reporters. TE Eli Raridon appeared to be limited in his reps.

Veteran defensive tackles Howard Cross III and Rylie Mills weren’t dressed for practice.

The first period focused on the field goal units. Projected starter Mitch Jeter, a transfer from South Carolina, hit 7 of his 8 attempts with the lone miss coming from 31 yards out after it hit the left upright. He made kicks from 51, 41, 29, 30, 26, 45 and 39.

In individual drills on the defensive end, the players rotated through a series of tackling and block shedding techniques. As the groups split into more position-specific work, defensive coordinator Al Golden and special teams coordinator Marty Biagi worked with the safeties.

As to be expected, the depth chart on the offensive side didn’t seem to be any different from the first practice. However, when the whole offense came together in period five to run through some plays, Steve Angeli took the first-team reps at QB.

The first-team offensive line remained the same with LT Charles Jagusah, LG Pat Coogan, C Ashton Craig, RG Billy Schrauth and RT Tosh Baker. The second unit lined up with LT Sullivan Absher, LG Sam Pendleton, C Joe Otting, RG Rocco Spindler and RT Aamil Wagner. The third unit was LT Styles Prescod, LG Peter Jones, C Anthonie Knapp, RG Chris Terek and RT Ty Chan.

The WRs continued to be drilled in specific roles with Kris Mitchell, KK Smith and Cam Williams to the field, Jayden Thomas, Deion Colzie and Micah Gilbert to the boundary and Jaden Greathouse and Jayden Harrison in the slot. Lacrosse player Jordan Faison didn’t appear to be practicing.

We’re set to talk to offensive line coach Joe Rudolph, defensive line coach Al Washington and a few players from their position groups here shortly.
