Football Some notes from interviews with Notre Dame's June enrollees

Hey gang, we had the chance to speak to most of Notre Dame's June newcomers, so look for some content coming from that tonight and throughout the rest of the week.

I'll share some interesting tidbits as I review my recordings and transcripts, but I wanted to drop a few that I noted already.

Football WR Beaux Collins is ready to make most of his time with Notre Dame

Notre Dame WR Beaux Collins met with reporters today in an indoor facility that wasn't built when he camped at ND as a high schooler. After spending the winter and spring as an observer, the Clemson grad transfer is finally part of the Irish program and working to make the most of it.

“It’s amazing,” Collins said. "The guys have welcomed me in and been nothing but great friends already. They’re putting me to work for sure. I love it here. The weather’s a little bipolar every now and then, but it’s not too bad. I love it.”

Recruiting Former Notre Dame WR commit Shaun Terry commits to ...

... Missouri, as I had predicted with a FutureCast.

The secretive spring visit ended up getting the ball rolling on this flip. Credit to @GabeD for being all over this.

Football Recruiting associate Carter Auman stays at Notre Dame despite pursuit from Wisconsin

Inside ND Sports learned today that Wisconsin was making a push for Notre Dame recruiting associate Carter Auman to hire him as its director of player personnel.

Wisconsin can stop trying now as Auman has told Wisconsin and Notre Dame that he intends to stay with the Irish, a source told Inside ND Sports. Expect Auman to receive a title promotion at Notre Dame as a result.

This is a good win for Notre Dame after previously losing director of recruiting Dre Brown to Illinois and recruiting associate Caleb Davis to Troy. Auman reports to assistant athletic director of player personnel Chad Bowden.

Auman, a 2022 Notre Dame graduate and former student manager with the football program, has drawn praise from recruits for his ability to relate to them.

Report: More football recruiting calendar changes on the way for early signing period

The Athletic's Nicole Auerbach is reporting that the Collegiate Commissioners Association, which provides governance oversight to the NCAA's National Letter of Intent program, has had advanced discussions about moving the December early signing period to the first week of December.

One other option the group is discussing is the possibility of a summer signing period (either in June or August) for college football. It would begin and end before athletes’ senior season, much like college basketball’s early signing period. If that were approved, high school senior athletes would have three opportunities to sign NLIs: The summer, early December and February. There would be no change to the traditional February signing period.

@Adam Gorney has notes on a pair of targets in today's Recruiting Rumor Mill: safety JaDon Blair and linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng. He suggests Notre Dame may be too far ahead of the others trying to catch up.

Penrod was a constant presence at Irish athletics events throughout the 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s, attending Fighting Irish practices and games. His loss is felt throughout the Notre Dame Athletics community.

Penrod is survived by his mother, Evelyn Penrod; siblings Sandra (Larry Roberts) Stewart, Linda (David Swihart) Bella, Brian Penrod, Kevin (Linda) Penrod, and Dale Penrod; close friends Katie and John Anthony; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends from his “Fighting Irish family.” He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Penrod.

Visitation for Keith will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at the Palmer Funeral Home-North Liberty Chapel, 202 N. Main St., North Liberty. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at a later date at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Keith’s name may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, 3 Columbus Circle, 15th Floor, New York, NY 10019.

For a perspective of Keith’s influence in the Notre Dame community and his incredible life journey, click here for a reprint of a feature story written in 2001 for a Notre Dame football game day program. The story is presented as it was written in 2001, which does refer to other members of the Notre Dame community who have also passed since publication.

Recruiting Notre Dame reached out to these 2026 recruits as communication rules loosened

The first day FBS college football programs could directly reach out to 2026 recruits was Saturday, and Notre Dame was busy making calls and texts as the clock hit midnight in the respective time zones on Friday night.

So even in the middle of an official visit weekend, the Notre Dame coaching and recruiting staff was busy working ahead on the next recruiting class.

Inside ND Sports has been able to track down a long list of recruits Notre Dame successfully contacted that night. Here's who we've learned about:

***Submit questions for Wednesday's podcast***

@Eric Hansen's taking a break from his vacation to record our next Inside ND Sports podcast with me on Wednesday. Not because he loves me that much, but because he lined up a pretty good guest.

Send us some questions you'd like us to discuss. We like to give priority to questions submitted on The Insider Lounge.

If you have multiple questions, try to be succinct and ask them separately. Thanks!

Basketball MBB: 2025 five-star SF reports Notre Dame offer

Notre Dame was one of three offers reported Monday by five-star small forward Nate Ament. The Warrenton (Va.) Highland product also added offers from Oregon and Kentucky.

Ament's offer list has been growing as his ranking has been rising. He's added 14 offers since the start of May, including Alabama, North Carolina, Kansas, Texas and NC State. Rivals named Ament the No. 10 overall prospect in the 2025 class earlier this month. He was ranked 38th as recently as early November.

I've seen Ament's height listed anywhere from 6-7 to 6-10. He's listed at 6-8 by Team USA. In late May, Ament received one of the 12 roster spots for the USA Basketball U18 National Team.
