Jadarian Price

I am so happy for him. Before the kick return, we brought him for a screen pass and Usc was all over it. I wish he would get more Carrie’s. I know Estime is the man, and Love has big play potential, but I really liked Price vision earlier in the year following blocks, and he has a subtle shiftiness to him. That kick return was a great ND moment.

Recruiting Why 2025 Dominik Hulak's first Notre Dame game-day visit was a success

I spoke with Notre Dame 2025 VYP target Dominik Hulak on Tuesday evening to discuss his weekend visit.

Hulak actually told me he had just got off the phone with director of recruiting Chad Bowden before he called me. The two have a great relationship and Hulak said they were catching up on his trip and more.

"I love Chad. Chad is the greatest guy ever," Hulak told Inside ND Sports. "My connection with him is super strong and I can definitely see something with him. The rest of the staff, [defensive line] coach [Al] Washington, [defensive coordinator] coach [Al] Golden, it's something special."

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound defender out of Elmhurst (Ill.) IC Catholic Prep visited the Irish three different times over the spring and summer, but USC was his first game day visit.

During our conversation, he spoke very highly of the atmosphere and energy on the Notre Dame sideline. Hulak rushed the field afterwards with other recruits and left impressed with the defensive performance.

"It definitely was something special with being able to stop a top 10 team," Hulak said. "It really stood out .... I know the past few weeks were harder against like Louisville and Ohio State but being able to stop Caleb Williams and his offense, it made the defense a big thing."

Hulak reports eight offers from Notre Dame, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Louisville, Missouri, Purdue and Wisconsin. He visited Illinois and Iowa in September and has plans to see Wisconsin on Oct. 28 and Purdue in November.

"I'm already like slowly narrowing down certain schools, Notre Dame is definitely a top [one] right now," Hulak said. "But I know by the end of the season, I'll be firm between like two or three and unless something else comes up with like another school."

Football Some interesting data on Notre Dame's offensive play calling

I'm not familiar with the work of Joshua "Bud" Davis prior to this tweet, but he's been sharing breakdowns of offensive play calling across college football using data from Sports Info Solutions and aligning the usage frequency of plays/personnel/scheme and correlating it with Success Rate and EPA/play.

Some definitions (taken from here) if you're not familiar with the terminology:

Success Rate is an efficiency metric that determines the success of a play. Successful plays meet one of the following criteria: the offense scored, 1st downs which gain at least 50% of the yards to go, 2nd downs which gain at least 70% of the yards to go, 3rd and 4th downs which gain at least 100% of the yards to go.

EPA/play: Expected Points Added per play. Expected Points assumes that not all yard lines are created equal. In other words, each yardline is assigned a point value and measures the number of points that would be expected to be scored based on down, distance, and field position. A negative value means that the opposing team would be expected to score the next points in the game.

Expected Points Added (EPA) uses Expected Points to measure the outcome of a play. It takes the EP value from the beginning of a play (e.g. 2nd and 5 at the 50) and subtracts it from the EP value resulting from the play (e.g. rush for 10 yards results in 1st and 10 from the 40).

The thing that stood out to me is that the things Notre Dame does more than other teams — 12 personnel, gap blocking schemes and inside runs — aren't producing much value (low EPA/play). That at least checks out from my standpoint of watching film. I've been talking a lot about 12 personnel not giving ND an advantage.

Yahoo Sports: Swarbrick proposes that colleges should be able to collectively bargain with athletes

“It’s a fairly radical notion, but if we could find a way to reach binding agreements with our student-athletes, most of this goes away,” Jack Swarbrick said, referring to what industry leaders say is a chaotic compensation system around name, image and likeness (NIL).

“We don’t have a mechanism to [collectively bargain] without them becoming employees. It would require a new mechanism that would recognize the rights of student-athletes to negotiate for the terms and conditions of their participation as athletes without being employees. I think it’s worth considering.”

Basketball WBB: The latest on Notre Dame women's basketball recruiting

After landing five-star center Kate Koval last week, the Notre Dame women's basketball program is still looking to add size for its 2024-25 roster and beyond. And five-star forward Mackenly Randolph is still very much in play. In fact, she'll be on campus this weekend for an official visit. Randolph is a 6-foot senior forward, who plays at Sierra Canyon High School in Encino, Calif. She's the daughter of former Michigan State and NBA player Zach Randolph. The Irish are in her top five that she released in August, along with Louisville, Duke, South Carolina and Michigan State. She's the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per ESPNw. The early signing period for women’s basketball is Nov. 8-15.

Also visiting is 2026 top 20 national prospect Amari Byles. She will be taking an unofficial visit. She's a 6-2 wing player from DeSoto (Texas) High School. She's the nation's No. 18 prospect in that class, per ESPNw.

Basketball WBB: Running list of watch list mentions for Notre Dame

Watch list season has arrived for women's college basketball.

On Monday, Notre Dame's Olivia Miles was one of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which recognizes the nation's top point guard.

Miles was a finalist for the award in 2022 and made the top 10 in 2023. Iowa's Caitlin Clark won the Nancy Lieberman Award each of the past two seasons.

On Tuesday, Notre Dame's Sonia Citron was one of 20 players named to the preseason watch list for the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, which recognizes the nation's top shooting guard.

South Carolina's Zia Cooke won the award last season.
