Football Notre Dame moves up in Coaches and AP polls

Updated with story on all polls:

Notre Dame moved up more spots during an off week (four) than it moved up after beating USC last weekend (three).

The Irish (6-2) are up to No. 14 in the Coaches Poll following Week 8 of the college football season.

Notre Dame's past opponents in the Coaches Poll:

No. 3 Ohio State (7-0)
No. 18 Louisville (6-1)
No. 21 Duke (5-2)
No. 22 USC (6-2)

Freeman regime and the future of ND football...

.....looks bright. That many of us (myself included) thought he would need no learning curve was foolhardy - and at some other programs, maybe a 1st year coach CAN get by without making mistakes. But at ND, with the standards we demand, playing the schedule we play, it was unrealistic to expect that even could be the case. The same can be said of Parker, he will get better as well. It's simply unfair to expect them to both be perfect so early in their tenures. Golden and the wisdom he brings to the defensive side of the ball was VERY evident against USC last night. That Marcus has Golden here says volumes about Marcus; that his ego can handle learning AND he's clearly smart enough to LEARN - THAT'S why the future is bright. Marcus Freeman is clearly where he wants to be and he'll be very successful here, and it will happen in the very near future.

Recruiting Notre Dame gets commitment from 2025 four-star TE and Irish legacy James Flanigan

Notre Dame received a commitment from 2025 four-star tight end James Flanigan on Saturday.

Inside ND Sports has the story with quotes from Flanigan and Rivals National Recruiting Analyst @Clint Cosgrove.

“I really think the sky's the limit. I don't want to put something like this on him, because it's a lot to live up to, but Cole Kmet, I remember going and seeing him as a sophomore, junior in high school. They're very similar at that stage of their careers. And Cole came in, he developed over time. And I see the same thing for him.”

Recruiting Remote updates on Notre Dame commits during HSFB action

I’m locked in on Notre Dame 2024 wide receiver Cam Williams tonight at Elgin (Ill.) High, but I did want to provide a thread to keep up with other commits that are playing tonight through social media as best as I can.

Starting with 2024 DE commit Bryce Young with a blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown for Charlotte (N.C.) Christian.

Recruiting Four-Star Friday: Five prospects jump into Rivals' elite rankings

The Rivals National Analyst Team has bumped a few recruits to four-star ratings and one of them is new Notre Dame 2025 tight end target Linkon Cure, who visited the Irish last Saturday and received an offer during his trip.

"Cure has every tool to be a difference maker at the next level, and as a 2025 prospect he is only scratching the surface of the player he will eventually become," said Rivals National Recruiting Analyst @Clint Cosgrove said. "At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds the Goodland (Kan.) standout has the speed, athleticism and ball skills of an elite receiver to go with a frame to grow into a true on-the-ball tight end."

In seven games this season, Cure has 22 receptions for 539 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He has 20 total offers including Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

Recruiting 2026 prospect Max Meier on Notre Dame visit: 'I was shocked'

Notre Dame's big recruiting weekend last Saturday against USC was headlined by Nebraska 2024 TE commit Carter Nelson and a ton of 2025 targets but the Irish also hosted a few 2026 prospects that they wanted to get on campus, measure and evaluate in person.

One of those prospects was 2026 DE Max Meier, a 6-foot-5, 225-pound defensive end recruit out of Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola. He plans to camp at Notre Dame next summer. Meier has experience playing defensive end, tight end and offensive tackle. Irish offensive line coach Joe Rudolph follows him on X (formerly Twitter).

I spoke with Meier to learn about his trip, what he knows about Notre Dame and what impression the visit left on him.

On his visit:

"When I came, I was shocked because Rudy really kind of got it right," Meier told Inside ND Sports. "The spirit was beyond what I had ever seen. The football tradition and all that ... the Midnight Drum Circle I got see and it's just beyond like any other college I'd visited ot seen in the football kind of aspect."

On his takeaways from the defense:

"There's no really weak link," Meier said. "Those linebackers and everything was just insane. Defense wins championships and honestly, we kind of got to see that. They absolutely crushed it, especially against a team like USC which has Caleb Williams. I've been to probably 10 USC games and I've never seen Caleb Williams get sacked."

On how he feels after the visit:

"If Notre Dame is following me and has eyes on me, I really gotta act like I'm gonna be a Notre Dame player one day," Meier said. "I gotta start eating like a Notre Dame player, training like one, acting like one, even if I don't end up playing there, it's still kind of a boost of confidence and gives me motivation to be the best football player I can be."

According to Rivals, Meier isn't currently rated or ranked. He doesn't report any offers at this time. His father, Timothy Meier, played defensive end at Dartmouth.
