Basketball MBB: Just got back from interview opps with Micah Shrewsberry and Markus Burton

The ND men's basketball team is heading to Spain for some exhibitions Aug. 5-15. I'll have plenty of MBB content, including some big-picture stuff over the next few days, including tonight, as I work around FB recruiting and am flying solo this week and next. Two of the freshman, Cole Certa and Sir Mohammed, have been sidelined for about a week with minor injuries. Burton is really excited about what he perceives as a significant talent upgrade from last season.

Football Notre Dame LB Jack Kiser and coach Marcus Freeman have been named Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominees

Established in 1992, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team recognizes college football athletes for their unwavering commitment to community service and their “good works” off the field. This year’s 178 nominees champion causes including mental health awareness, youth mentorship, hunger relief, domestic abuse prevention, and many more. In addition to being actively involved with a charitable organization or service group, each player must also maintain strong academic standing to be considered for a spot on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

“You’ll never regret making someone else’s life better,” said Tim Tebow, two-time national champion, Heisman Trophy winner, 2008 Wuerffel Trophy recipient, and 2009 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team member. “Year after year, I’m inspired by these incredible nominees who go above and beyond to help others.”

The final roster of 23 award recipients announced later in September will bring together:

11 players from the NCAA FBS
11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Divisions II, III and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA)
1 honorary head coach

All members are selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches and journalists who look for exceptional leadership on and off the football field.

Recruiting Caleb Davis and Zaire Turner fill two important football recruiting posts for Notre Dame

Zaire Turner, ND's director of recruiting operations since June of 2022, has been promoted to director of player personnel. She is a Texas Tech grad. And Cincinnati grad Caleb Davis is returning to Notre Dame after spending the past seven months with former Irish offensive coordinator Gerad Parker at Troy.

Parker landed the head coaching job at Troy in December and brought Davis with him to be the school's new director of player personnel. Davis originally came to ND in 2021 with the title volunteer defensive analyst, then moved into a recruiting associate's role in 2022 and 2023.

A third recruiting-related move of note is Becca Sites being elevated to Notre Dame football's coordinator for on-campus recruiting. The Saint Mary's grad was promoted from recruiting intern to recruiting analyst in February, so this marks her second promotion in a span of less than six months.

Chad Bowden continues to oversee the entire recruiting/personnel operation in his role of assistant athletic director/player personnel.

John Brice of Football Scoop was first with the news.
