Football Notre Dame Football summer rumblings

Twelve June-arriving freshmen and the last two of ND’s eight transfers enrolled earlier this month and have been participating with the rest of the Irish in “Football School” — an alternative in name and concept to the old OTAs.

Talking to some sources, here’s some early summer rumblings:

Recruiting Intel: What we learned about Notre Dame targets from final June official visits

Notre Dame hosted its final official visitors of the summer this past weekend. Inside ND Sports brings you the latest intel on those 2026 targets and others who are worth monitoring.

The dead period, which prevents in-person contact between recruits and coaches, began at midnight and it runs through the end of July. So this past weekend was the final opportunity for football programs to impress with visits for quite some time. There will be plenty of phone conversations being had in the coming days and weeks, but this past weekend should have a lasting impact on how some things play out.

Notre Dame entered the weekend with essentially four official visits to monitor for 2026 targets: four-star defensive tackle Elijah Golden and unrated offensive tackle Charlie Thom at Notre Dame, four-star wide receiver Kaydon Finley at Texas and four-star tight end Ian Premer at Kansas State. A fifth Notre Dame target, three-star tight end Evan Jacobson, completed an official visit to Iowa State earlier in the week.

We’ve covered Notre Dame’s other targets in this previous intel piece or The Heat Index, but here’s the latest intel on the five recruits mentioned above.

Recruiting 2027 safety target Gavin Williams will visit Notre Dame this weekend

Four-star safety Gavin Williams, a 2027 recruit from La Verne (Calif.) Damien, plans to visit Notre Dame this weekend.

Notre Dame offered Williams in March on Pot of Gold Day. Defensive backs coach Mike Mickens made a stop at Damien High this spring.

Rivals ranks Williams as the No. 13 safety and No. 166 overall in the 2027 class. He has more than 30 offers, including USC, UCLA, Ohio State, Oregon and Georgia.

Update | Report: Notre Dame finds new head swimming coach to replace Chris Lindauer

New from Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated: Stanford is hiring Notre Dame head swimming coach Chris Lindauer as its next women's swimming coach. Stanford had an opening after head coach Greg Meehan left the program to become USA Swimming's National Team managing director.

Lindauer has been leading Notre Dame's men's and women's programs since 2022.

The men's swimming program was suspended by the university for the 2024-25 season after an investigation into gambling and cultural issues in the program. Athletic director Pete Bevacqua announced in February that the program will return to full competition next season.

Lindauer was not found at fault for the issues in the men's program and continued to lead the women's team this past season. The women finished 12 in the ACC Championships and sent six swimmers to the NCAA Championships. The relay team of Jess Geriane, Imogen Meers, Katie Drumm and Madelyn Christman finished 26th in both the 200 medley relay (1:37.57) and 200 free relay (1:29.17). Carli Cronk finished 28th, 37th and 51st in the 200 fly (1:55.40), 400 individual medley (4:13.04) and 500 free (4:44.64). Maggie Graves finished 34th in the 1,650 free (16:17.49).

During Lindauer's tenure, the Notre Dame men's program finished a program-best 10th place and the women's program finished 32nd at the 2024 NCAA Championships.

Recruiting Running visitors list (2025 calendar year)

Say farewell to our running visitors list from the 2024 calendar year and welcome our new running visitors list for 2025.

We will update this thread as we confirm names of expected visitors.

Targets have a Notre Dame offer. Prospects do not. PWO is a preferred walk-on candidate.

All visits are unofficial visits unless listed with OV to denote an official visit.

As is always the case with recruits, this list is tentative. Recruits listed on previous dates made it to campus.

OT - State legislative actions to circumvent the recent NIL settlement.

@Tyler James and @Eric Hansen - with several states pushing to pass bills that fly in the face of the recent NIL Settlement, will the main provisions for enforcement be basically useless or will the NCAA look to take other actions?

I bring this up, because a Bill (HB 4643) recently introduced in Michigan would make it illegal for state schools to comply with reporting NIL agreements and empower the AG to sue on behalf of the student-athletes if the schools were to comply with the NCAA. It also has language making it illegal for the NCAA to enforce any NIL compliance penalties against in-state schools.

From HB 4643:
“A postsecondary educational institution shall not do any of the following:
(b) Comply with any investigations, regulations, or rules of an athletic association, conference, or organization with authority over intercollegiate sports related to agency agreements, NIL agreements, NIL compensation, or NIL activities.
(c) Report any information about prospective or current college athletes' NIL agreements or NIL compensation, individually or in aggregate, to an athletic association, conference, or organization with authority over intercollegiate sports.

(2) The attorney general may bring a civil action on behalf of an aggrieved person as described in subsection (1) for damages to be paid to that person and for injunctive relief.”
