Recruiting Seven Notre Dame commits remain in updated Rivals250 for 2024 class

All seven of Notre Dame's 2024 commits who entered the week in the Rivals250 remained among the top 250 in the first update since February.

But RB Kedren Young was the only Irish commit to move up in the overall rankings, and it was only three spots.

Full rundown of Notre Dame's seven commits and eight remaining targets in the Rivals250:

Recruiting First Notre Dame visit memorable for 2025 DE target CJ May

I just spoke with Notre Dame 2025 defensive end target CJ May. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defender attends Highland Home (Ala.) High and got home early Tuesday morning after visiting the Irish for the first time Monday. He received his offer on ND’s annual Pot of Gold Day recruiting event in March.

“The campus at Notre Dame was unique and different from any other campus I’ve been on,” May told Inside ND Sports. “It was definitely a surreal experience.”

May said defensive line coach Al Washington and defensive assistant Nick Sebastian described their plans for him and made him feel like a priority.

May also met with head coach Marcus Freeman and pointed out Freeman’s ability to relate to being a Division I recruit as his biggest takeaway from their conversation.

His favorite part of the trip was meeting with Notre Dame’s academic team.

“They were very straightforward with me and didn’t sugarcoat anything concerning the academic excellence expected at Notre Dame,” May said.

May reports 12 offers including Notre Dame, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Penn State and Tennessee.

He told me he’s planning to visit the Irish in September for their game against Ohio State.

Recruiting 2024 S Oliver Miles III has Notre Dame in high regard after official visit

I spoke with Notre Dame 2024 safety target Oliver Miles III Tuesday morning. The 6-foot-2, 170-pound defender attends El Campo (Tex.) High and took his official visit to the Irish last weekend. He's one of the top remaining targets at safety.

On his trip:

"It was a great weekend," Miles told Inside ND Sports. " I had fun [and] being able to bring my parents was very enjoyable."

On safeties coach Chris O'Leary and head coach Marcus Freeman:

"O'Leary is a great coach. He bonds with his players very well and makes sure he coaches them up well. Coach Freeman speaks the truth. He's a great coach and great guy."

On Notre Dame's culture and his scheme fit:

"I liked how players made the time there fun and just took care of us. Being an athlete, I feel like I can be good in one spot but also be great in another."

After speaking with him, Miles definitely has real interest in Notre Dame but nothing is imminent. He told me Notre Dame is in his top five schools but he's in no rush to make a commitment until mid-July. He confirmed he will be taking his official visit to Texas Tech this weekend.

Full story coming later today.

Recruiting LB commit Teddy Rezac embraces role as recruiter on return to Notre Dame

Three-star athlete Teddy Rezac made his first trip to Notre Dame as an Irish commit for his official visit this past weekend. Here's a bit of our Q&A from this evening. I'll have a story up on Rezac in the morning.

What was it was like to be on campus as a committed recruit?

“It was pretty special. I loved getting up there and getting to be around all the other recruits and commits. It was kind of a really cool experience to meet all of them.”

Was it a good reminder of why you picked ND?

“Oh yeah, no doubt. It emphasized the fact to me that the people there are some of the best in the country.”

What did you learn the second time around about Notre Dame?

“Talking to the players was cool and to get their input on classes — what classes they thought I should take and not take. I also learned a lot more about the NIL situation and how that works at Notre Dame.”

What did you learn about NIL?

“I learned how they’ll do events out in the community and get paid for doing that. Then you can get separate sponsorship deals and all that.”

Did you get a chance to speak with LB target Bradley Shaw?

Bradley Shaw?

“Yeah, I talked to him a little bit. He was a cool dude. We didn’t conversate a whole lot but I did talk to him. I said ‘What’s up?’ to him every time I saw him.”

What was it like to come all the way to Notre Dame and hang out with TE target Carter Nelson, another recruit from Nebraska?

“It was pretty sick. I didn’t know he was going to be there. When we first got there, me and Sean [Sevillano] were playing Madden. Then I saw Carter walk in. I was like, ‘Shoot. I thought it was defensive-only weekend.’ Then Chad Bowden came up to me and told me Carter’s a big priority for them. They really want to get him. So he wanted me to talk to him and see what he’s like. We ended up clicking pretty well. It was cool to meet him.”

What was it like to embrace the role of recruiter during the visit?

“It’s kind of cool to do our own recruiting. There were nine dudes committed, so all of us were trying to get [safety] Oliver [Miles III], Carter, Bradley and [defensive end] Elijah [Rushing]. We were trying to get all of them to see the great stuff at Notre Dame. We talked to them about why they should commit. That was kind of a cool role to play.”

Recruiting Three-star LB Bradley Shaw recaps 'great' Notre Dame visit

I just got off the phone with three-star linebacker Bradley Shaw, who made an official visit to Notre Dame this past weekend. We covered a lot of ground, so here are some of the highlights quickly. I'll have a full story later today.

Update: Here's the full story:

What did Shaw think of the visit?

“It was great," he said. "I loved seeing the facilities, talking to the coaches and players, taking tours and seeing all the buildings.”

Shaw visited Notre Dame earlier in the spring, but there was one big thing he felt like he learned the second time on campus:

“I appreciated it the first time," he said. "But I learned how much value their name really holds. I really got to understand that this time more than last time.”

Shaw has really connected with defensive coordinator Al Golden and head coach Marcus Freeman and sees a smooth transition for himself in Notre Dame's defense.

“They have experience everywhere," Shaw said. "Not only am I getting coaching from my position coach, I have Coach Freeman watching me do drills, critiquing me and helping me with fits, hand placement and things like that.”

Shaw plans to make an official visit to Arkansas this week. He also wants to make official visit to Auburn and Alabama, but he said he likely wouldn't make those until the season started.

Because he's not in a rush to make a decision, would he try to get back for a Notre Dame game as well?

"Yes sir," Shaw said.

Recruiting Notre Dame 2024 LB commit Bodie Kahoun feels great after official visit

Notre Dame 2024 linebacker commit Bodie Kahoun wrapped up his official visit with the Irish yesterday. It was Kahoun's first time on campus as a commit after he verbally committed in May.

I spoke with the 6-foot-2, 210-pound defender about his trip and connecting with other commits.

"They had a great schedule for us and it went and felt great," Kahoun told Inside ND Sports. "All the pressure of the process was off me and my family. I got to truly enjoy the visit and the other commits ... very proud of the choice we made. was pretty pumped about how fast and how well we all connected."

The Roanoke (Va.) Patrick Henry product said he committed to the Irish in large part due to their coaching staff and his visit couldn't have gone better with them.

"As I said before, all the coaches at Notre Dame have worked hard to build a relationship with my family and I," Kahoun said. "It has always been consistent. [Head] Coach [Marcus] Freeman is genuine and [the] same for [defensive coordinator] Coach [Al] Golden and [graduate assistant] Coach [Max] Bullough."

Kahoun is only going into his second season at linebacker after playing safety for the majority of his career. After spending time with Bullough and Golden, Kahoun likes their plan for him and believes he can develop into an elite linebacker under their guidance.

Recruiting Rivals Rankings Week: Five-Star Countdown

Rivals is updating the 2024 rankings this week starting today with the five-star recruits in the class.

Rivals now has 20 five-star recruits and will eventually have around 32 by the end of the cycle. Only one of those 20 recruits remains a Notre Dame target: DT Justin Scott. Scott remains the top defensive tackle in the class and sits at No. 8 overall.

Notre Dame quarterback CJ Carr was previously ranked No. 18 overall. His updated ranking will be revealed tomorrow with the rest of the Rivals250. He didn't drop very far. If he kills it at the Elite 11 Finals this week, he should finally get that elusive fifth star.

I spoke with Notre Dame men’s basketball 2023 guard signees Markus Burton and Logan Imes late last night following Indiana All-Stars' defeat of Kentucky 95-74.

The two are scheduled to move to campus later Sunday afternoon.

Burton on growing relationship with Imes:

“When we first got here, me and Logan, we were instantly talking to each other, bonding [and] talking about what we’re going to do when we get there to Notre Dame,” Burton told Inside ND Sports.”

Imes on excitement to get to campus:

"I'm ready to get going. I think a lot of guys are ready to get going. It's a new group, new system and I think we're all just excited. I think there's an excitement around the program right now and I think everyone's ready to go.

Burton on what he like about playing with Imes:

“It’s extremely fun to play with him because he can penetrate and kick, he can shoot, I can do the same thing and I think we complement each other games well.”

Imes on Head Coach Micah Shrewsberry:

"Coach Shrews is an elite coach. I think he showed that the last couple years. He's got a great basketball mind and I'm ready to go there and soak up all the information I can from him."

Recruiting Notes from 2025 QB Blake Hebert on his ND visit and offer

I spoke to new 2025 quarterback target Blake Hebert today about his visit to Notre Dame on Saturday and receiving an offer from the Irish.

"It meant a lot," Hebert said of the offer. "It's a great school and a great program, so it definitely meant a lot to have that opportunity in the bag."

What stood out to him about the visit?

"I love the school a lot," Hebert said. "The campus and everything is gorgeous. Every building was really stunning. Obviously the program is very good. I love the culture as well."

Hebert said he hasn't talked much with former Lawrence (Mass.) Central Catholic teammate Preston Zinter, a freshman linebacker at Notre Dame, about ND but knows he loves it.

Hebert has a visit scheduled to North Carolina for Saturday. That's all on his schedule for now. He'd like to get back to Notre Dame possibly for a game this season.

T&F: ND's Olivia Markezich wins steeplechase national championship

Last night in Austin, Texas, Olivia Markezich won a national championship for the Irish.

The senior from Woodinville, Wash., won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Texas with a time of nine minutes and 25.03 seconds. She outpaced runner-up Greta Karinauskaite of California Baptist by more than five seconds.

Markezich won the steeplechase event at the Outdoor ACC Championships last month in 9:40.65. Her personal record before Saturday was 9:35.80.

Markezich became the second women's track and field national champion for Notre Dame of the year with Jadin O'Brien winning the indoor pentathlon title in March.

More highlights from UND.com: Madison Schmidt tied for 18th in the high jump with a 1.81 meter mark, and Alaina Brady earned an 11th-place finish in the heptathlon with a personal best of 5739.

The women finished with 12 points, good for a second-place finish overall.

On the men’s side, both John Keenan and Carter Solomon — two standouts at this year’s Outdoor ACC Championships — earned All-America status. Keenan took seventh place with a 75.96M mark in the javelin event, shattering his previous school record of 72.06M. Solomon also finished seventh overall in the 5000M event, crossing the finish line at 14:09.57. With that, Solomon wrapped up a year composed of two individual ACC titles (Cross Country 8K and Outdoor 10,000M) and three NCAA Championship berths.

Recruiting Quotes from safety target Davis Andrews following Notre Dame official visit

I exchanged some messages with three-star athlete Davis Andrews, a safety target for Notre Dame, while he was traveling back to Utah on Thursday following his midweek official visit to Notre Dame.

Here's the quick Q&A we shared, which has been cleaned up slightly for typos.

What was the highlight of your Notre Dame visit?

"I would say the highlight of my Notre Dame visit was being out with the staff and seeing the campus. It was so awesome being out with them and seeing if Notre Dame is a campus that I could leave my hometown and live at and be comfortable. The staff made sure I knew I could. Everyone was great, and they made my family and me feel really welcomed and really wanted."

What about ND's plan for you in its defense appeals to you?

"What appeals to me is that most schools are not sure what they want me as. They say LB/S, but what I like about Notre Dame is they know they want me as a safety, and there has been plenty safeties that have came out of Notre Dame. I think playing under Coach O’Leary would be awesome and especially with a head coach that has a defensive mind it’s a perfect situation."

Do you still intend to make you official visits to Utah this weekend and BYU later this month? Any others in the works?

"Yes. I will still be taking those officials and honoring those commitments, but no others in the works for me. I’ll be done after those."

I know we talked about the possibility of taking a mission previously. Did ND talk through the details of how that would work with you?

"Yeah. So I’ve narrowed down that I will be taking a mission, and Notre Dame was super supportive of it. They really have been since the beginning of my recruitment."
