Michigan vs Alabama

All season I’ve said Michigan is a decent team. They’ve hit some transitional issues. Not easy to replace Harbaugh…definitely Saban!

Give the Wolverines credit. Really good D. Best Alabama twice in a row.

Let’s be honest guys…that’s more than the Fighting Irish have done vs elite SEC teams in meaningful games.

Lastly, it’s evident the BIG is good. I still think they will eclipse the SEC. If they haven’t already. Let’s hope tomorrow Notre Dame continues this apparent northern football resurgence.
Pretty good end of the season for Michigan with wins over Ohio State and Alabama.

Coach Marcus Freeman Dodd Trophy Coach Of the Year Winner

When you consider all of the injuries, and even the lack of 5-star talent/elite talent on the roster, Marcus Freeman's #4 F+ ranking is pretty damn impressive. He should be up for way more coach of the year hardware this season. It's really difficult to find a coaching staff whose had a bigger positive impact with the same obstacles/challenges that this Notre Dame 2024 coaching staff endured.

The offense is up to #5 in F+ to match their #3 defense. This Notre Dame team has back end top 10 talent, but producing among the tier 1 teams in the top 5, even with all of the injuries to the players on the 2 deep over the 2024 season.

Bama isn't an elite SEC team this year

Coach Marcus Freeman Dodd Trophy Coach Of the Year Winner

Named for legendary Georgia Tech coach Bobby Dodd, The Dodd Trophy was established in 1976 to honor the FBS football coach whose program represents three pillars of success: Scholarship, Leadership and Integrity. The award honors the coach of a team with a successful season on the field and equally as important, stresses the importance of academic excellence and desire to give back to the community.

Georgia is going to attempt to run the ball down NDs throat

I don't quite share the same level of pessimism that you do, but I completely understand. A couple things.

One, I will be very interested to see how Freeman handles this stage. Does he have his guys ready to play and do we come out firing away, not playing scared to lose? That was Kelly's MO in big games and we almost always got embarrassed unless the game plan was perfect. I fully expect a different kind of Irish team in this game.

Leonard could very well be the X factor. I think its pretty well established the UGA struggled against mobile QB's so I expect them to exploit this through out the game. At the very least, to keep UGA honest, but we could see Leonard rack up decent yardage on the ground. Move the chains... thats the name of the game against them. I don't think we'll see us be able to run right at their defense with much success. I think spreading them out and forcing them to tackle in space is very important. This defense had some issues tackling in space.

Defensively... yeah... I think we'll be holding on for dear life unless these guys play out of their mind and surprise me. We had a phenominal defensive season but man... you can only take so many hits and lost personnel before its evident. Hope i'm wrong there.

I still see a 27-17 type win for UGA. Ha, I still have terrible PTSD from past big games like this. I was fooled into thinking past teams were good enough to play toe to toe with Bama, Clemson, etc and I was wrong... very very wrong.. lol.
Trust me, I'd love to see ND win 42-14.

But I think my view is not that much different than yours. I see something between Georgia winning by 24-14 to maybe 27-10. I think the last 5 minutes of the first half and the last half of the 4th quarter will be very telling -- if Georgia is able to wear down our defense. Conversely, I think the third quarter will be most telling for us in terms of whether Georgia can come up with adjustments against our offense and/or whether our offense can adjust to their D.

I think Freeman will have his team playing loose, I just think our defense will not be able to stand up the whole game. I also don't see our very basic offense evolving that much where it will score enough points.

I don't call it PTSD. I call it being rational. I haven't expected ND to win a big bowl game since Weis's first season when we got beat by Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl. We are trending slowly in the right direction, but still don't have the all-around depth the top teams have.

IN ORDER TO ADD SOME PERSPECTIVE

What’s dumb is you ignoring Charlie Weis’s four Super Bowl rings

What’s dumb as you’re ignoring Charlie Weiss as the offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots

Those are incredibly impressive credentials, especially for a kid who wants a path to the NFL

Hence, he was a good recruiter

And recruiting is topic of discussion

Try to stay on topic
Not great credentials for a college coach. Different animal. Those " credentials " you allude to certainly did him no good at the collegiate level. What good is being able to recruit players but not have the ability to develop them ? Lots of coaches in New England had multiple Super Bowl rings and few if any of them found success once they left New England. How do you explain the fact that when the roster consisted mostly of players he recruited the worse the team was ? He was bad, period. Let's not forget the fact that despite all those great credentials you claim he had he was NDs fifth or sixth choice for the position. Hardly a positive endorsement. The number of SB rings is 3 not 4.

ACC

If the CFP committee reseeded after the 1st round based off of CFP rankings it would have been better all around:
1 Oregon vs 12 ASU
2 Georgia vs 9 Boise State
3 Texas vs 6 Ohio State
4 Penn State vs 5 Notre Dame

Yes. If the powers that be (the major conference commissioners) get to keep the auto-bids for conference champs, that would be a great way to improve the second round.
