Alabama being down seventeen to VANDERBILT

Though they seem to be coming back some

Looking at the stats Vanderbilt was in control almost the entire game
Ran the ball down Alabamas throat and stopped Milroe and the Bama run game
HAD THE BALL FOR 42 MINUTES
this was not a fluke this was a flat out defeat of Alabama

Actually Saban's great teams usually dropped a game. The winner was never quite as bad as Vandy.

I read that today was the first time Vandy actually scored a TD against Alabama since 2007! No way Saban loses to Vanderbilt. Ever. Just shows what a difference coaching makes.

Vandy looked like NIU!

Beats being 11-29 in your previous 40.
So…one of your “defenses” of Brian Kelly, after losing 3 straight openers at LSU, was that he beat Bama in 2022. Tell the board why you aren’t giving same credence to Lea and Vandy?

TBH, I"m more concerned with the lack of control of players in the waning minutes of that game... IE the kid throwing a fit, pitching his mouth piece and kicking the ball out from under the ref. I'd like to believe Saben would have shut him down right quick for that behavior, not make excuses like his head coach did in the post game presser.

I had not really thought of that and should have; you are right. Just like with Bellicek you never saw the Pats doing all the stupid crap anymore in the NFL

Another interesting stat about that game:
Vanderbilt had NEVER in its history beaten a top 5 team
0-60

Vanderbilt is a decent team. Lea is doing a good job there.
I know, that's what was so impressive. They comprehensively beat them and we're the better team from start to finish. They didn't dominate them, but they definitely beat them. Answered every bell all game long, both halves, every quarter. And if anything we're driving to score again at the end. Who wasn't thinking that Vandy was going to go three and out and Bama would come back and win in the waning seconds. And they killed the clock so completely that they were getting 1st downs almost too quickly.

So it was a hard-fought, competent, well-executed win for sure, and if you didn't know any better it came off like two strong, dominant-type teams slugging it out, and Vandy was just too good for Bama, in spite of Bama's best efforts. Truly an awesome win. And there's some ND pride in it with Clark Lea. Maybe we hired the wrong DC.....

when you look at the massive disparity in talent, there is no way Vanderbilt gets within three TDs of Alabama
This I think was a case of a team coming together and being more than the sum of its parts

Vanderbilt lost to Georgia State this season, Clark Lea is 12-30 overall at Vanderbilt, and just beat Alabama.

So evaluate as you will.

I loss a lot of respect for DeBoer and how he handled the end of the game. When Vandy made the big first down to put the game away, #13 Malachi Moore (Team Captain) pushed on the Vandy runner a couple of times while he was down. Should have been taken out of the game there. Then while Vandy was setting up, he was becoming unhinged. After the snap and taking a knee, he comes up after refs placed the ball and kicks it resulting in a penalty. Yet, DeBoer still didn't take him out of the game. Afterwards when addressing the situation he basically made excuses for Moore and did not discipline him at all today.

Yup, that sequence of events was pretty sad, especially from a 5th year captain. Coach should have benched him and he should sit out a spell in the next game. But nope, he defended him saying he's a really emotional guy.. smh

ignorance
do you know just how poor Vanderbilt was when he got there?
and do you know how hard it is to get excellent talent there?
you certainly sound like an internet expert which means you are not

That was like a transitional moment. I assume he didn't recruit this guy, unless he's a transfer, and these are somebody else's players, Nick Saban's no less, and rather than get on his bad side he just kind of vaguely lets it go and stands behind him. So a tactical move of sorts, I would guess, in the heat of the moment. He's taking over the program, and he's got to manage things like this for the next year or two before it's all his guys and his culture. But I also feel like saying not something Nick Saban would have tolerated when he first got the job. He would have been the opposite and put his foot down right away. Then again, Saban was taking over for some loser who got fired, whereas old boy is taking over for the greatest coach in CFB history. So he's a little not sure how to handle it. Probably better to take off the kid gloves at this point.
