I cannot for the life of my understand why NBC picked Doug Flutie to announce ND games? Makes no sense that a BC guy would announce ND home games. There has to be a ND guy out there???? Brady Quinn????

There's no reason to have an "ND" guy announce ND home games.

Charles Davis is the best color commentator in the college game. Pay him when his contract is up at Fox.

I agree with NDEwing, we don't need an "ND guy" in the booth. I'm looking for honest reporting and Flutie is a likable guy. Plus, he beat The U way back when and that's a hell of a good thing.

Agreed. I want someone who will be neutral and give me an honest opinion on what's going on. I don't need, nor want, an ND homer.

There is no announcer that ND fans will agree on, and the ND options that people give are generally less than exciting.

Hmmmm, I would have sworn that our contract with NBC has them paying us, not vice versa. But of course I could be wrong.
Yes, you are wrong. We pay NBC to televise the game in return for advertising dollars. So in fact the ND brand is paying NBC based on opportunity cost. If NBC was losing money, they would not have renewed the contract. NBC makes money off ND football. Therefore, ND has clout and can insist on certain demands. Get it? Do you need me to explain further how a brand like Michael Jordan or Coca-Cola can command certain things?

Let's see if he develops a style that is unique and entertaining. I have a hard time imagining it, but he might surprise.

I loved Mayock's football intelligence while calling the games. But he didn't excite me at all.
I've never been impressed with the quality of the broadcast overall though.

I like Flutie. Loved him beating the "u"!!!!!! Saw him in person beat temple.....and the ravens. Seems to be a good family guy......and he did as well as anybody else last year. Plus he seems to be very pro-ND.

Why not Doug Flutie ? As other posters replied before , if he can do a good
unbiased job of broadcasting , it is a lot better than getting an ND homer.
If our team is great, I am sure he will say that, and if we have weaknesses,
I want them pointed out as well.

completely wrong. it's not possible to be more mistaken.

The Bus is available. He's done some TV. However, I think NBC prefers to not have an ND person doing color. They've never chosen one before; in fact, they seem to always choose guys who played for our rivals (Haden, Mayock, Flutie).

How do you know The Bus is available? There isn't a person on Planet Earth that would please Irish fans anyway.

Bettis is not very good. He only lasted one season on Sunday Night Football. Not good.

Joe Theismann would be great.

Notre Dame plans to continue using revenues from the contract to fund the school's financial-aid endowment for the general student body, not including athletes. The school said that since 1991, about 6,300 undergraduates have received nearly $80 million in aid from revenue generated through the NBC contract. Notre Dame also uses NBC revenues to endow doctoral fellowships in its graduate school and MBA scholarships in its Mendoza College of Business.

How do we have revenues from the contract if we are paying NBC to televise our games? It's so confusing!!!:confused::rolleyes:o_O

Yes, Flutie is a good announcer and does well but I think I speak for many if not all of us in saying we would appreciate a ND guy like Quinn or Bettis in the booth.

"NBC and Notre Dame said the extension would begin in 2016 and run through the 2025 season. The contract, reportedly worth $15 million annually for football, had never run for more than five years."

NBC is paying ND to televise the brand. NBC then (hopefully) makes money from advertisers among other things....

I'm quite certain that the contract has many "stipulations" for both sides....

Trying to speak for anyone but yourself on a message board is usually a bad idea.
