I think it’s only 4 stars. Anyone on the board would be a good pickup.
Our 2024 QB depth chart, as it currently sits, is Steve Angeli, Kenny Minchey, and CJ Carr.

After the 2023 season, will Marcus Freeman recruit a portal QB for 2024?

Hard to say. Depends on the development of Minchey and Angeli. You can’t bank on Carr imo barring a massive senior season and a Dante like performance at the Elite 11, so if Minchey doesn’t make a huge jump I bet he goes portal. Angeli might be the most ready but he has the lowest ceiling.

Hope these guys make the case that we don’t need to go shopping in the portal. But of course, we don’t know what QB talent will enter the portal.

There will be quality 6th, 5th, or 4th year QB's, who have graduated, and are looking for one more season, a la Sam Hartman or Jack Coan. And Notre Dame in 2024 will have no one on the QB depth chart in their 6th, 5th, or even 4th years.

Will Marcus Freeman go that route again? Who knows.

I hope not, invest and develop the guys you recruited even if it means some growing pains.

Unless Minchey gets solid PT this year in mop up duty and is able to run the regular offense, run it well, show progress, then 100% yes he should. Maybe there's a bit of a decision if Minchey looks awesome in practice, does well with his game reps, etc.

It can't be Angeli in 2024. I hope it's a QB battle between carr and minchey for #2 in 2024 unless one of them is just that good that fast.

Yeah, i'm sure the team is really disappointed they got Hartman, especially the WRs. Who would want a guy that's thrown for over 4k yards in a season throwing to them.

Minchey better show progress. He took 5th at the Elite 11. Not sure we’ve ever had a QB do that well.

No doubt he was a great pickup. He will do more for the program than people realize. Underrated positive consequences of bringing Hartman in include: mentoring Minchey, bringing leadership to the team, setting the tone for the younger QB’s in general, getting more reps for the younger receivers, taking pressure off the running backs, taking pressure off the defense, showing recruits that we have an elite QB (whether developed here or not, it’ll help Gino’s reputation as it’s optics), building a top OC reputation for Parker (whether he has any positive impact on Hartman is irrelevant as perception is reality), helping Freeman gain notoriety as a head coach (could get 10-11 wins in second season at ND), Heisman media attention for the program (more positive recruiting), helping get the younger guys actual game experience after he puts up points. There’s going to be a buzz around him that we haven’t had in a while (hence the autographs and #10 jerseys at the spring game). People are excited. The list goes on and on and on.

Rushing will be on campus this weekend. He’s been very eager to get back to Notre Dame.

Pulling off Rushing and Beasley would go a long ways in helping people forget about Keeley and Bowen.

I forgot ‘long ago’ way before it even happened!

We need 40 points to match last years class and not fall out of the top 15. Where are we getting those, realistically?

Don't care about rankings as long as we get guys we need at positions of need. Frankly if we get safety covered this year is a success. Gap closing? At rb and wr yes. Lots of room to move up elsewhere.

You will have to go portal, if for no other reason that potential for transfer

What's interesting is 2024 QB depth chart will be in better shape than 2022 was and coaches didn't even attempt to go to the portal. Hopefully they learned their lesson.

Wrong. You have no clue if the 2024 QB depth chart is better than 2022. No one does at this point.

I love how you repeat the same thing over and over. One would think once is enough but not you. Go get ‘em tiger.
